Title: Re: OH I GOTTA BRAG! Post by Ghost on Jul 6th, 2006, 5:36pm [smiley=spit.gif] [smiley=crackup.gif] [smiley=guyflash.gif] [smiley=lick.gif] [smiley=thumb.gif] [smiley=bow.gif] Se I rite good! ;;D Went to read it again and its gone ... new issue is out. Farmersville’s Volunteers Determination, Commitment, Respect. Those are the first things that come to mind when someone mentions Farmersville Volunteer Fire Department. Twenty something Volunteers that will answer whenever the need arises. Neighbors that care enough to help for no pay and very little recognition. You may or may not get all of them at every call but, whenever they are close enough to respond they do without a single word of complaint, whether early in the morning or late at night there is usually someone ready to help. With the hottest part of the year at hand, some may not even consider that there is special group of Men and Women staying vigil to help their neighbors whenever the calls come in. With one of the largest coverage areas in Collin County this small group of volunteers will respond to whatever the situation calls for day or night not knowing for sure what challenges they are to face on each and every call. There is always a chance of injury, or worse when they are called to respond, yet they do it anyway. Is it possible that they do this because they want to help others in need, or maybe that they feel they have more to give? Whatever the reasons are for each of them, the answer will probably be a little different. Some may think of Volunteer Fire Fighters as wannabe Fire Fighters, the fact is though they do the same job as a paid Fire Fighter and are required to be trained the same as a paid Fire Fighter would be. There are also advantages to Volunteers, One would be each one brings his or her special training and/or skills with them, whether being an Electrician, Plumber, Paramedic, Security system Tech, Welder, or even something as basic as a Mother who has to handle all of life’s challenges. For them its not just a job but a gift to give to neighbors and friends. It is because they want to be there not because they have to be there. The needs of the Volunteers are few, if asked some would say just give us a good truck and proper equipment and during the summer cold water, then we will supply the rest. They are using heavy turnout gear for grass fires where as they would be able to stay in the fire area longer with proper wild land gear assuring better results if a wild fire was to be in our area. The heavy gear would normally be used for structural fires or automobile accidents. Unfortunately the budget for the Volunteer Fire Department is limited, with gas prices up and time being ever more crucial, wild fires, medical responses, and the high temperatures some would wonder why and one would even want to do such a job especially for no pay. Well here they are still, giving of themselves and asking for nothing but respect. Enjoy the peace of mind you are given because of them. Try to remember when you are not worried it is because you are comforted by knowing you are protected. I saved the original. ;;D |
