I'm sure someone here has tried a demand regulator for O2 like the ones used in SCUBA. So, what's the answer? Does it, or will it work. I remember from my diving days (ex Navy Diver) a little inhalation would result in gobs of air depending on how you set your reg. Would the same work for O2. It seems like it would be a lot more efficient with the O2. What am I missing? You would not need a bag.

Well, the valves on the tanks are different, so you couldn't fit the regulator 1st stage onto the O2 tank's valve. Also, O2 suppliers are told not to fill Scuba tanks with O2, as breathing oxygen is dangerous/deadly after a depth of 30 ft or so. My take, Richard, is that if you can find a way to fill your own scuba tank with O2, then your idea should work. Or fit a scuba valve onto your O2 tank....

I use a modified CPR regulator. Our EMT's used to carry them on their rigs and I grabbed one when they were throwing them away. It had a hard plastic shell that would form around the victims face. You would then use a push button that opens the valve, similar to a SCUBA set up. That way you are breathing pure oxygen. I empty my lungs completely then do a deep breath of oxygen and hold it for about 30 seconds. This will usually abort my headache in less then 10 minutes. This system works great for me as the regulator doesn't flow while I'm doing the breath hold thing so I only use about 300 pounds per session.

It screws on the E-Tank like a standard flow regulator so no adaptor is needed.

I'm thinking a 40% Nitrox tank with my reg on it would ROCK. I've never tried it while in cycle though, so I have no idea how well it would work on clusters...

Thanks to all for the feedback. Actualy I realize the set up would be tricky due to the tank connections etc., This would require a custom first stage regulator that would fit the O2 connection and feed at the correct pressure to the second stage. I was just wondering if the concept would be effective in delivering max O2 per breath and conserving O2 between breaths.
I'm going to research the design.
