Title: ?? for those on preventative meds Post by Tiannia on Jun 27th, 2006, 10:30am I am on Elavil for preventative. I have to take it daily or like this weekend proved, I will get hit. It felt like a worse hit then I had when I got hit multiple times a day. But my question in this. I still get the sweats daily. I will still get the redening around the back of my ear and the side of my face and at times My eye will still water and swell, but I got get the pain. I was wondering if others get this as well? or if this mean that I should up the dose on my meds? This has been the first preventative that has ever worked for me. I have been on (to name a few) Inderal, Topomax, Gabatril. Nothing worked and all I got where side effects. |

Title: Re: ?? for those on preventative meds Post by Tiannia on Jun 27th, 2006, 11:31am I know hun. My appointment is with my doc on the 3rd. But if this is normal then I'm ok I mean I can deal with the side effects so to speak without the pain. But I was just trying to see if anyone else has similar symtoms. Or if this means that increaseing the meds is something that I should seriously talk to her about. She is really good about listening to me, and taking my suggestions and we discuss the possibilities and general concerns and what to expect. Luckly I finally found a neuro that listens. It helps that she hets daily HA as well. not clusters but there is emaphty there not just the "yeah right. You really get these everyday." attitude that I got for 3 yrs. |

Title: ?? for those on preventative meds Post by Guiseppi on Jun 27th, 2006, 11:39am I have never used Elavil. My preventative is Lithium, 1200 mg daily, 300mg, 4x a day. I haven't ever gotten the symptoms you describe. It either blocks the head aches, or they come through full speed ahead. So at least for me, it's an all or nothing. We messed with the dosing at first going as high as 1600 and as low as 900, 1200 is what put the brakes on it. I hope you find relief, it sounds like you're getting everyting but the major "owie" now so congrats on getting that far. Guiseppi |

They are called silent cluster attacks. All the symptoms with no pain. A common occurence for me and definately preferable to full on CH attack. My "opinion" is that these are generally a good sign and I would suspect your med has found its balance or maintenance point in your system. A higher dose may tip you back to full CH. If you do up the dose and CH comes back remember where the dose was and go back. |

Title: Re: ?? for those on preventative meds Post by Tiannia on Jun 28th, 2006, 11:36pm Thanks MJ. Yes I do prefer these to a full blown hit. Makes it heard to explain when I am making a submittal, but I get thru. |
