Title: Migraine Busting Device??? Post by LeLimey on Jun 22nd, 2006, 3:59pm I know this is migraine and not CH but I thought some of you might be interested. New migraine-busting device developed Scientists in the US have claimed to have developed a new electronic device that relieves the pain of migraines before they start. The experimental device, developed by the Ohio State University Medical Centre, is designed to be held against the migraine sufferer's head where it emits an electronic pulse that interrupts the pulses in the brain's neurons, preventing the onset of the headache. "The device's pulses are painless," said Dr Yousef Mohammad, who led the study into the effectiveness of the device, called TMS. "The patients have felt a little pressure, but that's all." The study found that by using TMS in the early stages of a migraine, where neural disturbances can cause some loss of vision or the appearance of flashing lights, patients were able to prevent the later onset of symptoms such as headache and nausea. It was found that 69 per cent of patients who used the TMS reported no pain two hours after treatment, compared with less than 50 per cent of a placebo group, with improvements in nausea and noise sensitivity also reported. The researchers warn, however, that much more testing needs to be done before the device can become widely available to migraine sufferers. http://netdoctor.msn.co.uk/uk/msn/news/index.jsp?id=9444&D=22&M=6&Y= 2006 |

Title: Re: Migraine Busting Device??? Post by Jasmyn on Jun 24th, 2006, 4:06am There is another thread on this in the medications and treatments section. Personally I feel this is one for Ueli to give us a scientific perspective on. btw: I used to work in a field where I was exposed to very strong magnetic fields... even vehicles were attracted to this magnetic force, watches stopped and credit cards were erased. Sadly this made no difference to my CH. |
