Title: Any Ideas???? Post by Jackie on Jun 22nd, 2006, 10:40am What condition/medical problem would require a 4 hour IV treatment once a month?? The treatment leaves her worn out afterwards but is fine by the next day. She looks perfectly healthy and leads a normal life (job, plays golf...the usual stuff). Ideas????? Thanks, Jacks 8) |

Title: Re: Any Ideas???? Post by Donna_D. on Jun 22nd, 2006, 10:53am Immunoglobulin therapy is a possibility but for what I don't know...it has many therapeutic purposes. Any other clues you can give us, Jacks? DD |

Title: Re: Any Ideas???? Post by tanner on Jun 22nd, 2006, 11:25am Jackie, this is just a guess, but I have the opposite of anemia, too much iron. We just took the third and final blood test (you have to stop vitamins leafy greens and red meat) and I will find out the results and the treatment when I see my GP next week. I told him when this first came up that I WOULD NOT under any circumstances use leeches even if they were medical leeches (I guess they have a degree or something :)) Way too many bad memories about those little suckers. He told me if I continued to test high we would have to bleed or clean me. Just a wild guess, but I may know the answer soon!..Tim |

Title: Re: Any Ideas???? Post by Bob P on Jun 22nd, 2006, 11:53am Tim, Donate blood once in while to keep the iron down. Read an article years back about how women don't have this problem because of thier monthly cycle. Also some native jungle tribesmen don't because the go barefooot and are often cut and bleed while tromping through the jungle. The high iron was linked to heart problems. Interesting read. |

Title: Re: Any Ideas???? Post by Jackie on Jun 22nd, 2006, 11:57am The info I gave you is all I know....sorry I know it's really vague. I'm sure I'll know more later. She is a friend of my son's, from the golf course.....they are going to the same dinner party tonight. He was just curious and trying to get a bit of a 'heads-up'....so as not to say anything rude/inappropriate...or watch that everyone else is polite. I told him to just be polite, watch his manners and she would discuss it if and when she felt like it....Oh, she's not hiding anything as she told him about the treatments. Thanks gang.... Jacks 8) |

Title: Re: Any Ideas???? Post by tanner on Jun 22nd, 2006, 12:02pm Bob, I really think that that is all they are going to do, take blood every so often. Believe me I wish I could donate! I miss being able to do that but with HepC mines no good. I am going to ask the Doc if my platelets could still be used. ....I think I will goggle it right now....Thanks Tim |

Title: Re: Any Ideas???? Post by Margi on Jun 22nd, 2006, 2:42pm Tim, I've had that problem too - they tested me for hemachromatosis because my iron levels were too high. It was my own fault though, I was taking a multi-vitamin with added iron because I thought it would give me more energy. Problem is that your body stores iron and yet doesn't know how to get rid of it (other than by bleeding). Once I stopped the vitamins and waited a while, things are testing normal again for me, but my doctor did tell me that I could go to Red Cross and donate, but just to let them know that they wouldn't be able to use the blood - it's quicker and cheaper for the medical system this way, apparently, than to go to a lab and have it done. |

Title: Re: Any Ideas???? Post by seasonalboomer on Jun 22nd, 2006, 2:44pm I just had too much Iron in my pool and it was staining. One dose of "Jack's Magic Stain Remover" and it eliminated all the metal problems. Wonder if they have a human version? ;) |

Thanks buddy I knew I could count on you to at least lighten things up :) We have been doing the tests for several months now and I gave up my Flintstones a while back to eliminate that possibility! And Jackie leeches SUCK and in more than just the obvious way. I would rather slit my wrist and then go for stitches every couple weeks! btw; Margi, I was just checking out your Canada site. Very nice! It strikes me that you look like some movie star, so those of you that have had the pleasure, who is it! |

Tim---- My wife has had hemochromtosis which is too much iron in her blood. She has to blood let every other month. There are new inroads to the cure (?) but blood letting is the usual course. |

Title: Re: Any Ideas???? Post by Charlie on Jun 22nd, 2006, 9:15pm I forgot what it's called but my 80 year old aunt has had to have her blood effectively changed once a month for more than 15 years. It takes a few hours and it wears her out for about two days. Afterward, she feels great until the next time. Sorry I don't know what it is. Charlie |
