Title: Any wood workers? Post by Tom K on Jun 19th, 2006, 6:43pm Get your minds out of the gutter! [smiley=laugh.gif] Just finished this pencil box for my wife. The box is oak, the top is spalted cherry and the inlay is purpleheart. The finish is tung oil with a poly top coat. The whole thing took about 20 hours, because I had never done inlaying before. http://home.comcast.net/~eismann/104-0434_IMG.JPG http://home.comcast.net/~eismann/104-0436_IMG.JPG http://home.comcast.net/~eismann/104-0438_IMG.JPG http://home.comcast.net/~eismann/104-0435_IMG.JPG I just attached the links because the pix are kinda big. |

Title: Re: Any wood workers? Post by Gator on Jun 20th, 2006, 4:33am Great work! I love the joinery and the inlay. I tinker in the wood shop once in a while. Mostly big stuff, like bookshelves and quilt racks. I did a cedar picture frame and a checkerboard for the OUCH Convention last year. I also made my wife a china hutch and my grand daughter a crib. http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5da05b3127cce911bc63f81cb00000016108IaOHDlu2bI http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d823b3127cce91a71ca1da3d00000016108IaOHDlu2bI http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/China%20Hutch.jpg http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/crib.jpg |

Title: Re: Any wood workers? Post by Tom K on Jun 20th, 2006, 5:37pm Thanks, everyone! It was a total bitch learning inlaying on the fly. You don't know how much purpleheart I totalled trying to get it right...at $20 per each sheet of 4"x12"x1/4"...it adds up fast! Gator, great stuff, hope my skills can grow to what your's are, the crib is beautiful. |

Title: Re: Any wood workers? Post by purpleydog on Jun 20th, 2006, 8:04pm Tom, that's really very nice, especially for your first time with inlaying. The whole box looks great. I bet your wife really loves it. I know I do. :) I collect boxes... Nice work. |
