Title: I have a question... Post by Daddys_Devil on Jun 18th, 2006, 3:43pm ...and I hope everyone takes this seriously. What triggers your headaches? Like does one thing make your head instantly start to kill every time? For example, for one of my sufferers, its the smell of buttered popcorn. I was just wondering. I thought it would be interesting to know for future CHers. Thanks a lot and I can't wait to read your replys. Always, Felicia 8) |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by Richr8 on Jun 18th, 2006, 3:45pm When i am in cycle, mine just show up several times a day (mostly at night actually, soon after I fall asleep) but alcohol is my only solid trigger that will kick one off every time in cycle. Other than that, can't say. |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by Charlie on Jun 18th, 2006, 4:04pm Nothing identifialble here other than when in cycle, I woke up at least twice a night for a dance with the beast. Some say MSG though For many of us they occur in fall and spring. I have no idea. Charlie |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by Tom K on Jun 18th, 2006, 4:13pm Nothing really will start a cycle, at least that I've found. While in cycle, flashing lights will always set me off. This makes driving at night a real pain, usually I wear a pair of not too dark sunglasses if I have to drive at night. I followed all the trigger food guidelines and found that they do and they don't trigger. I've pretty much surrendered to the fact that if a hit is going to come, it's going to come. I have pretty much stopped following everything because I'm sick of living my life around my CH. I do what I want and deal with the hits when they come. Took me a long time to take my life back from CH but it has been well worth it! HTH |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Jun 18th, 2006, 5:06pm Alcohol will hurt me whether I am in cycle or not. OTC and prescription pain meds will hurt me if I take too many. If I take a nap during the day, or get my internal sleep clock out of whack, that's good for a hit also. If I take a sauna or a jacuzzi, I have to make it very quick. If I get my body temp up by staying in for a long time, I get hit within an hour. I havent noticed that smells hurt me, like nail polish remover or gasoline, but I do tend to shadow if I dont have fresh air. PF wishes BMonee |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by brewcrew on Jun 18th, 2006, 5:48pm When in cycle, booze. Any kind. I haven't had a drink since mid-January. I think I'm coming out of cycle (finally - one of the longest cycles ever for me), so I'm looking forward to having a few pops at the convention. |

Post by Redd715 on Jun 18th, 2006, 6:01pm Primary Chronic with increased activity cycles 2x a year: Out of high cycle triggers (that I know of) Smells: Fresh asphalt ( I hate road construction season) Pine Cleaner occasionally petrolium smells Visual: Strobe type effects (ie: sunlight flashing between trees while driving) Environmental: High heat and humidity Tempeture extreems ( ie: going from a warm home out into bitter cold weather) Storm fronts Food/Drink: Beer of any kind Sometimes MSG sometimes not Other: Tetanus shot this spring triggered a high cycle from hell. |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by Paul98 on Jun 18th, 2006, 7:33pm when in cycle, alcohol, MSG, sulfites will trigger an attack. What triggers a cycle, don't really know but in years that I receive less light during the winter (ie. very cloudy winter with no vacation down south) seems to predispose me to going into cycle in the spring. Burst of real warm weather in the spring will usually get me shadowing. Sudden relief of extreem stress will also do it. Oh yea, varying my sleeping habits too. -P. |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by Kris_in_SJ on Jun 18th, 2006, 8:04pm Episodic every 3-4 years. No triggers when out of cycle at all. Life is normal - you almost forget you're a clusterhead. When in cycle, 9:00 pm and 2:00 pm hits I can count on. Other than the time of day, no triggers. I'm one of the lucky ones, I guess .... Kris |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by RDubois on Jun 18th, 2006, 8:45pm I've been PF since January of this year. I've had Cluster headaches since April 1985. Dur ing the 1st 10 years they came twice a year, in fall and spring. Then they faded to once a year, usually in the fall. I've never been able to figure out what brings on a cycle. I think my first cycle was the result of stress but that's mostly a "Guess". During the cycle, my headaches came in the evening, after supper, about 15 minutes following a "Nod-off". They usually lasted about 30 minutes, unless I was drinking or engaged in a stressful activity. During the last few years, once I reallized that I was in cycle, I changed my evening habits and went for a walk instead of sitting in front of the news. (Not easy to do in New Hampshire in the winter) I think this helped shorten the cycle but "Who knows?"!!!!!!!!!!!!! During my last cycle, my headaches came at night, almost exactly 1 hour after I fell asleep. Again, they lasted about 30 minutes. I think I'm a case where age (76), tends to diminish the severity of these things, both as to severity and length. Of course it might help that I'm retired, living a good, low stress life and I no longer smoke, drink, (Or anything else), except go to the gym. You've heard the one about the doctor telling the old man, "If you don't smoke, or drink, eat bad food, or engage in !!!!!!!!!!!), why in hell would you want to live to 80" ??????????????? RED |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by FramCire on Jun 18th, 2006, 8:54pm I haven't noticed any out of cycle triggers but in cycle my trigger so far are: stress and chocolate (UGH) Also, I tend to get hit more in church on Sunday morning than I do any other morning or any other place in the AM. I always forget about the chocolate part and the other day I used some semisweet chocolate baking chocolate to make a chocolate/banana milkshake and got hit nasty. On the other hand sex is NOT a trigger for me. Don't you just love the beast...... screws with us all in different ways. |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by tanner on Jun 18th, 2006, 10:57pm In 20 years of seeking the answer to your question I have only found that heavily polluted areas ( big cities, lots of exhaust fumes) make my HAs worse. Can't answer the cycle part cuz I get mine every day. I am finally managing to abort some or at least postpone them with O2 and a Clustermasx. Thanks, Thanks, to my benefactor :) Another ClusterAngel sent me a fantastic song to listen to while I am sucking O2. btw: I bought the newest album from the link provided ;;D .....tim |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by jon019 on Jun 18th, 2006, 11:07pm Hi DD, When out of cycle I fear two things. MSG and welding involving zinc. MSG has started cycles from hell- I know it because I've been there. Been lied to by bastards in several restaurants. It limits my choices but the momentary pleasure is not worth the extended agony. As for zinc, I work in an industrial setting. There are some there who are convinced I am nuts. One whiff and I am SPRINTING down the hall, damn any conversation I may have been in. Alcohol in cycle is an instant trigger (and only in cycle). Out and I refer to Ben Franklin: "Beer is proof God loves us" Regards Jon |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by clarence on Jun 19th, 2006, 5:56am I am chronic with headaches intensifying in Spring and Fall. Beer - though I tend to do well with Vodka, and some other hard liquor. Quite possibly the nail polish remover, now that its been mentioned. Naps during the day kill me. Sleeping at night. Casey |

Title: Re: I have a question... Post by BarbaraD on Jun 19th, 2006, 6:46am I'm chronic and when the barometer changes I usually get hit worse. Relaxing does it every time. I have to stay busy and stressed -- the more stressed the less headaches I have. Smells don't seem to bother me, but staying in the sunlight too long does. My husband and I used to spend a lot of time in the Carribean and if I stayed out too long - I'd get hit. Alcohol doesn't seem to bother me (I don't drink that much). Beer was ONCE a trigger, but lately it doesn't bother me. My opinion -- I think the triggers change - just when you know what to avoid - something else pops up to trigger them. The barometer is the only constant I've ever figured out and I can't do a darn thing about that. Hugs BD |
