Title: To Those of You..
Post by ShariRae on Jun 18th, 2006, 9:28am
That have father's to share this day with...do it..take the time to see them if possible...make a call..mend the fence of the relationship if it is broken...let them know you thought of them today..and tell them you love them..For those whose fathers arent here....through whatever circumstances...remember them...shed a tear and a smile...
Sorry..it has only been 3 weeks since my Dad passed..I am going to the cemetary to share this day with him...and a smile amongst the tears..
Much Love
Shari

That awful year of "Firsts", Shari.  Sending you big hugs and hoping your visit to your Dad today will bring you a measure of comfort.  He will always be with you and you have some wonderful memories to call on.

I lost my Dad 34 years ago and I still find Father's Day to be a tough one.

So, - to those of you who still have a Dad, say hello to them today, tell them you love them and let them know they count in your life.

For those of us who lost their Dad - remember them today in love and with a smile for the good times you remember having with them.

Hugs
Carol

A few years after my dad died, when my daughter was 4 and my son was 3, I took them to his grave site.  I explained that he died a long time ago, but that I like to remember him because he was a good daddy. My daughter walked over to the grave marker, leaned down and knocked.  Several times.  The she began calling, "Grandfather"  louder and louder.  She was quite upset that he didn't "answer his door".  It is very difficult to laugh, feel your heart break, and explain to a 4 year that they do NOT want Grandpa to answer his door, all at the same time.
Do tell your Dad you love him.  And let him run the remote, just for today. ;;D

That was great advice Shari :) The loss of a loved one is something I think we never get over, its more of something we seem to adjust to a little easier over time but will always feel the emptiness.

Remember him as if you will meet again Shari, his journey has just begun :)

I wish I could visit the graves of my father and step father.  Unfortunately, both are still alive.

I know this thread called for solemnity, but your post made me LOL Mike.  :D

My dad passed in '92 and I think of him every day.  I just did some mechanical stuff around the house in his memory (he was always doing that)  Too hard to visit his grave for me this year.

I couldn't read this until today.  I opened it and had to close it again.

Edwin Murray Dalgety
Oct 9 1941 - Mar 17/18 2000

I shed a tear, I shed several yesterday.  I read the Ode my husband wrote for his eulogy, and I smiled through my tears and said to myself "If yer gonna be stupid, ya gotta be tough".  That was always his line.  He was buried at sea with full Naval honours so yesterday we went to the beach and went swimming.  I don't think anyone but me understood why we had to go to the beach and not the pool.

He was, is, and always will be my everything, the glue that holds me together.
