Title: Harassing phone calls
Post by chewy on Jun 8th, 2006, 4:47pm
The Student Assistance Corporation calls me 3-4 times a day 7 days a week. Claim to represent Salli Mae student loans. Sallie says NO THEY DONT.

So the last time they called I told them Mr. Young has been assigned another phone. You can reach him at this number xxx-xxx-xxxx.

When they call it they will be connected directly to the Attorney Generals Consumer Fraud Division.

LMAO!

No need for PM. Its public info but State specific.

The main number for the Atty Gen. in Massachusetts is 617-727-2200

Better yet would be to give them the number they are calling from.  I doubt that any of them would even realize it before they dialed...Or give them the number of a brothel in NV.   ;;D

I filed a complaint with the Atty. Gen. so what I am hoping to do is underscore my complaint.

I hope they call the Atty. Gen. as much as they have been calling me.

Nice idea...very nice.  http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/telephone.gif

I should send those fake State Police calls asking for money to help pay for childhood diseases by helping pay for non-existant dinners or barbeques. I get them all the time.

My mother in law donates to one of those every year.  Is it really a scam?

A scam? Maybe yes, maybe no. Has she ever called them to check who answers? (Instead of a one way call from them to her?). Has she ever looked in the phone book for the name and address she's given to send her money to? Do they have website?
I would NEVER send money or give information to anyone that calls me blind that I don't know personally or that I can't check out 100% one way or another.

My wife and I do have charities that we give to. But we know absolutely, positively, without-a-doubt who they are and what they need the money for.

Maybe that's why I still have most of my money.

I like to give out a fax number, we all know how nice that sound is when you are not expecting it. [smiley=laugh.gif]
As far as the phone solicitors are concerned if it sounds worth while I tell them to mail me the information and I would be glad to donate to there cause, it is amazing how many of them try to get you to do it over the phone and when they say they will send the information it never arrives. If they ask for your address it is also kind of a give away since if they know who you are they should also know where you live.

We get the cop calls all the time!  It's so annoying  >:(

The do not call list does not apply to charities, only to solicitors trying to sell you something.  The cop calls are perfectly legal as far as the do not call list is concerned.  BUT, 90% of them take your money and it never gets to the intended recipients.  We give annually to our local police force before Christmas for their "shop with a cop" program, where cops take underprivileged children to K-Mart (not Wally World), and each child has a certain amount of money to spend on themselves.  Interesting thing though is, most of the children spend that money buying Christmas presents for their parents, siblings and friends - not on themselves.

I think that's awesome!

I get lots of these things and there are far too many. I suppose once there was a legitimate campaign by some state cops or somesuch but I have my doubts. The scammers know that a lot of people think twice before saying no to cops.

Even if now and then legit, it's a shitty way to raise money.
