Title: PEANUT AND THE DUCK...
Post by Langa on Jun 8th, 2006, 3:43pm
3 days ago, I let Peanut out to do her thing.  I usually just let her out and don’t watch her since we have a big yard, live by a creek and on a dead end road up a long gravel driveway.

Anyway, she decided she wanted to go a’huntin’…so she somehow ended by the creek where she proceeded to kill a duck twice her size.  I have no idea how she did it.  If that duck would have taken flight, It would have dragged her with it across the sky.  I’m thinking she hurt the duck right away.  It looks like she grabbed the duck by the neck and kept shaking till there was no life left.  :P

Somehow she dragged the dead duck over to our house, pushed the door open by getting on her hinds feet and shoving with her front paws – her usual way of prancing in the house.  There’s a step that leads to the apartment, so I noticed she went back down the one step and I see her grab the dead duck’s neck, jump up the step and try to push it up into the house.   :o

Needless to say Crystal almost had a fit and Peanut had no clue…she was too thrilled with herself.  She was really having a hard time getting the thing up to the house, so she maneuvered herself on the step, and grabbed the tongue of the duck which was dangling out at this point and tried to pull it up  [smiley=hurl.gif].  Let me tell you she was determined.  Since that didn’t work, she decided to go back down the step and shove at the dead duck roughly upward with her nose in hopes of getting her up the one step.

I’m very brave about such things  :-/, so it goes without saying that I was screaming for Gordo to get the dead duck away, which he did, much to Peanut’s disapproval.

I kept telling her she did well, what a good doggie, blah, blah while I gagged and gave her a bone as a treat and reward.

She fell asleep the rest of the night - Guess hunting is tiresome.  This is after she killed a chipmunk and dropped it in Crystal’s lap as she was doing her homework on the floor.  Crystal doesn’t understand it was a gift you see, so she almost fainted.  [smiley=eek.gif]

Ahhh, life in Langa’s house…quite exciting I tell you…whoever said Dogs are boring were insane… [smiley=laugh.gif]

My old dog Ralph tried to get a goose once.  Poor bastard didn't know what hit him.  Goose grabbed his ear and proceeded to pummel him sensless with it's wings.  The 75 lb dog never bothered the geese again!

My landlady's cat used to drag dead mice into the house. She wasn't as lucky as our family friends, though. Their cat brought dead rat into their bed while they were sleeping! Imagine waking up seeing a dead, bloody rat next to you... :o

if you want a pet which does not drag dead creatures into your house, have a guinea pig... ;;D

My mini pin and mini daushund used to bring me "squirells"  -- I loved getting them at four in the morning -- Always left a night light going. The damn squirels were bigger than both dogs put together and they really had to work hard to get them up the steps and thru the doggie door to Mama....

At least we know our babies love us.... :)

T'was the snake "offering" that my dog brought me that did me in...matters not that it was not poisonous.  Had fangs and was really PO'd-not dead.  I almost had a heart attack-yeah yeah I realize it was intended as a sacrifice for the alpha female dog (don't go there) of the house, but I did not reward her.

Langa....duck.blecchh!
Peanut.proud of you!
Crystal...mice, bleccchhh!
Gordo- GOOD HUSBAND(patting him on head)

Our old cat, Fluffy was a big ole puffball. She knew nothing about the outside world, till one day while sunning herself on the front porch, she encountered a field mouse. She crouched and wiggled and plotted, till, suddenly....WHOMP!..she swooped on that mouse..and put her paw on the tail and proceeded to clean it-one side to the other.I must have watched her for 15-29 mins! She was determined that mouse would be spotless! Eventually,  I picked up my Fluffy and watched that mouse literally fly into oblivion! He had NO idea how charmed his life was that day, to have encountered Fluffy, who knew nothing about capturing food, but was well versed in hygiene!

Can;t live without my cats, Cathi

Just Peanut's way of showing you that she deserves you. At some level, she's earning her place in the "pack."

"There you go, Ms. Alpha. That nasty duck will never bother you again. Now how about one of those nice cookies you have up on the counter."
