Something I’ve noticed the last week or so…..there’s somebody joining our board about twice a day using a different name and city each time but every one says Afghanistan.

Right now it’s Comrad80 Daugals, Afghanistan

How can there be so many suddenly getting clusters in Afghanistan? What the heck is going on?

Someone who knows DJ or who has the power might want to ban all of them.  There was a guy using the email address alexcoppas@mail.ru who was registering on a bunch of sites multiple SNs and then hacking the sites.  I don't know the rhyme or reason but this looks like a similar thing and you might want to ban them unless a person actually posts before this person tries to do something else.

Yep, this is the reason OUCH Canada is now a "members only" board (because of these mail.ru registrations).  Not taking any chances, me.  Folks will have to contact me to register now.

I know for a fact there is one uk ch'er who has registered as being in  Afghanistan and another in Vietnam when they are both in England.. takes all sorts eh?  ::)

I expect it's probably bots harvesting information such as names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers and addresses.

I would recommend keeping any personally identifiable information to pm.  People who have their e-mail addresses public are probably noticing an increase in the amount of spam they receive.  I know I have.  I hadn't noticed the trend BobG mentioned, but the timing of the increased spam makes sense, now.

No need for me to hide my e-mail address. ;)
For the last 1.5 years I get 300-400 spam mails per week. But it doesn't bother me much. My ISP flags most of them as spam and MailWasher bounces and deletes them, without them ever reaching my computer. Others are blacklisted (including all coming from .ru and .biz domains) and suffer the same fate.

Folks, do me a favor and check the "Newest member" (Its on the page where you can see whos on the board) every time you see the name has changed.

If it has "Afghanistan" in the profile, please copy and paste it to this thread (Like I have).....this may very well help DJ track down all the names this fuck is using for whatever reason they are being used.

It's been so long since I registered...me thinks that one step needs to be where you enter the word that is written in a squiggly box...kinda like when you buy tickets off ticketmaster.  I can hardly make out hte words but I know it is made to stop bots.

I just updated the registration script so it now has one of those funky verification codes you have to match before you can create a profile.  Hopefully it will keep the spammer bots from registering bogus profiles.

If you notice any new BS profiles or have any other problems with the board, please let me know!
