Title: Remember the 90's
Post by taraann on Jun 2nd, 2006, 9:27am
If you grew up in the 90's you have GOT to read this

You're a 90's kid if:

You've ever ended a sentence with the word "PSYCHE!"

You just cant resist finishing this... "Iiiiiiin west philladelphia born and raised..." ----On a playground is where I spent most of my days....

You remember TGIF on ABC and wouldnt miss it

There was an elephant show and the song went like skin-ama-rink-a-dinky-dink skin-a-ma-rink-e-doo i loveee youuu----don't forget the hand moves that went along with it!

"Miss Susie had a steam boat, the steam boat had a bell..miss suzie went to heaven the steamboat went to hell_o operator please give me number 9 and if you disnconnect me i'll kick you from behind the fridgerator, there was a piece of glass, miss suzie sat upon it and broke her little ass_k me no more questions, please tell me no more lies the boys are in the bathroom zipping up their flies, are in the cornfield the bees are in their hives .......................... miss suzie and her boyfriend are kissing in the D-A-R-K- D-A-R-K D-A-R-K dark dark dar dar da dark"

You remember when Kurt Cobain, 2Pac, River Phoenix, and Selena died.

You know that "WOAH" comes from Joey from "Blossom" and that "How Rude!" comes from Stephanie from "Full House"

You remember when it was actually worth getting up early
on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

You got super excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school.

You begged for some GAK, and when you got that they came out with scented GAK, and when you got that they came out with funny scented GAK.....

You remember reading "Goosebumps"

You took plastic cartoon lunch boxes to school.

You danced to "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls

You remember the craze, then the banning of slap bracelets and slam books. ----also remember the craze and banning of CO-ED naked t-shirts

You still get the urge to say "NOT" after (almost) every sentence...Not...

You used to listen to the radio all day long just to record "Your FAVORITE song of ALL time"

Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? was both a game and a TV game show.

Captain Planet.

You knew that Kimberly, the pink ranger, and Tommy, the green Ranger were meant to be together. (this was meant for young 80s children)

When playing power rangers with friends you fought over who got to be who............and still all ended up being Tommy.

You remember when super nintendo's became popular.---I can still "hear" the super mario song

You always wanted to send in a tape to America's Funniest Home Videos... but never taped anything funny.

You remember watching home alone 1, 2 , and 3........and tried to pull the pranks on "intruders"

"I've fallen and I can't get up"

You remember going to the skating rink before there were inline skates----Sam proposed to me on the way to the rink!

Two words... Trapper Keeper.

You wore socks over leggings scrunched down---And cuffed the bottoms of jeans

"Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack, all dressed in black, black, black, with silver buttons, buttons, buttons, all down her back, back, back" SHE ASKED HER MOTHER MOTHER MOTHER FOR FIFTY CENTS CENTS CENTS TO SEE THE ELEPHANTS PHANTS PHANTS JUMP OVER THE FENCE THE FENCE THE FENCE
he jumped so high high high he touched the sky sky sky and he didnt come back back back til the forth of july ly ly he jumped so low ow ow he stubbed his toe toe toe and thats the end end end of the elephants show show show

You remember boom boxes vs. cd players

Writing M.A.S.H. notes.

You remember New Kids on The Block when they were cool

You knew all the characters names and their life stories on "Saved By The Bell"

You played and/or collected "Pogs"

You had at least one Tamagotchi, GigaPet or Nano and brought it everywhere

You watched the original Care Bears, My Little Pony, and Ninja Turtles

Yikes pencils and erasers were the stuff!

All your school supplies were "Lisa Frank" brand.(pencils.notebooks.binders.etc.)

You remember when the new Beanie Babies and talking Elmo were always sold out.

You used to wear those stick on earings, not only on your ears, but at the corners of your eyes.

You remember a time before the WB.

You've gotten creeped out by "Are You Afraid of the Dark?"

You know the Macarena by heart.

"Talk to the hand" ... enough said

You always said, "Then why don't you marry it!"

When we were younger:

Before the MySpace frenzy...

Before the Internet & text messaging...

Before Sidekicks & iPods...

Before MIKE JONES...

Before PlayStation2 or X-BOX...

...Back when you put off the 5 hours of homework you had every night.

When light up sneakers were cool.

When you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.

When gas was $0.95 a gallon & Caller ID was a new thing. ---I remember $0.85 a gallon!

When we recorded stuff on VCRs & paid $3.50 for a movie.

When we called the radio station to request songs to hear off our walkmans.

When 2Pac and Biggie where alive.

When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever.

Way back.

Before we realized all this would eventually disappear

Who would have thought you'd miss the 90's so much!!!!!

Ahhaaa, the 90's. The good 'ol days. I remember them well. My grandaughter was in Jr. High.

Another good thing about the 90's..........it wasn't the 70's anymore. Yawn. It was hard to stay awake during that decade.

The 90's....the births of my children early in the decade, what I now can recognize as the first morphing of my CH while pregnant with Meggie.  The rapid deterioration of my marriage, private and group and marriage counceling.  Separation and reconcilliation, and the final ending in divorce.  Starting college at the ripe age of 30 in the middle of the decade, and beginning the long journey of rediscovering ME.  Sold my soul to Fanny May for an education that I couldn't finish.

Ahhhhh the 90's...when motherhood and that big purple mennis of a dinosaur was the order of the day....

I remember a lot more about the 80's than I do the 90's..

You know you grew up in the 80’s when;

1.You wore fluorescent clothing. (some of us...head-to-toe)

2.You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off & his cheeks shifted.

3.You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the only female smurf.

4.The crypt keeper really freaked you out.

5. The clown in Poltergeist really freaked you out.

6. After you saw Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure you kept saying "I know you are, but what am I?"

7.You had big hair & you knew how to use it.

8.You solved the Rubics cube.....by peeling off the stickers.

9.Three words; M.C. Hammer

10. You know the profound meaning of ’wax on wax off’

11.  Parachute pants weren't worn for jumping out of airplanes.

12.  Your favorite band wore more make up and hairspray than your girlfriend.

13.  You know what records are and probably 8 tracks.

14.  You know what a typewriter is.

15.  You weren't called a tuner, you were called a gear head.

This one has actually been around since I was a kid in the 70's. What is scary is how much I remember from the 70's before my 80's teen years. My teen years... man, the ages between 11 and 17 are just a blur man.  [smiley=mellow.gif]

17. You remember Alf, the lil furry brown alien from Melmac.

18. You know all the words to Bon Jovi - SHOT THROUGH THE HEART.

19. You just sang those words to yourself.

20.You remember watching Magic vs. Bird.

21. You still sing "We are the World"

22. You owned a bannana clip.

23. You remember "Where's the Beef?"

6) Toga Party

7) FOOD FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8 ) Deep Purple, Santana, Led Zep, Aerosmith, The end of the Beatles, and the countless one hit wonders of the 70s.

80' Kid - 90's teen

I remember getting our first microwave...it was huge and made the lights dim when it ran

Shirts with the little alligator on it

Wearing overalls with one flap open was cool

Kris Kross and the fad of wearing your clothes backwards

Daisy Duke shorts with bright colors

HUGE hoops earrings

When the space shuttle crashed

Stretch Armstrong

Playing Marbles

2 square, 4 square, horse, and double dutch

(And bonjovi is now stuck  in my head!)

Goodness sakes kids --- the 90s are barely gone (I still write 199- on my checks -- but I'm old).

Now if you really want to get nostalgic... go back a few more years -- the 40s, 50s and 60s were the nostatalgic years (right Bob and Charlie?)

40s - Frank Sinatra -- now that was MUSIC

50s gave us ELVIS - NOW that was something our kids still live with.

60s - that's when BIG HAIR started (in Vegas probably)- our school had a RULE that you couldn't "rat" your hair over two inches high -- boy that was hard to get mine to 2 1/2 inches just to show the "establishment!"

Gas at 85 cents? I remember when it was 19 cents. I also remember when it went to $1 and all the gas pumps had to be changed out. Most of the stations just set it at half price and then doubled the amount till they could get their pumps to read over $1.00.

Movies at $3.50? I remember getting in for 9cents and staying all day (the movies were air-conditioned).

"Father Knows Best", Donna Reed, Leave it to Beaver - geezzz - how did those mothers get breakfast in high heels every week?

Songs made sense and you could sing the words....

The 90s???? Social Security, arthritis, bursitites, everything starting to sag, tri-focals, -- not much nostalgia there!!!

Had a teacher one time who's favorite expression ---- Youth is wasted on the Young!!! :-*

I was born in the 40's (late 40's) so I don't remember those. The 50's and 60's I do remember.

40s - Frank Sinatra -- now that was MUSIC
Guy Lambardo, Mitch Miller, the Dorsey brothers. Couldn't stand any of them but I do remember them.

50s gave us ELVIS - NOW that was something our kids still live with. And Fats, Jerry Lee, Little Richard.....

60s - that's when BIG HAIR started (in Vegas probably)- our school had a RULE that you couldn't "rat" your hair over two inches high -- boy that was hard to get mine to 2 1/2 inches just to show the "establishment!"
I think big hair was (and still is) a Texas thing.

Our Saturday movie (we called it going to the show) was 25cents and popcorn was 10cents. MilkyWay bar was a nickle.

"Father Knows Best", Donna Reed, Leave it to Beaver - geezzz - how did those mothers get breakfast in high heels every week?
And always slept in twin beds. [smiley=laugh.gif]

Songs made sense and you could sing the words....
And actually dance to, up close and friendly.

The 90s???? Social Security, arthritis, bursitites, everything starting to sag, tri-focals, -- not much nostalgia there!!!
True but, the 00's gave us Viagra!
