Title: Poor Ben had a Migraine
Post by clarence on May 30th, 2006, 8:36am
Why don't I get on CNN when I have a headache?

Actor-director Ben Affleck treated for migraine

(Cambridge, MASS - AP) - Ben Affleck is said to be recuperating at home after being treated at a Cambridge hospital for a migraine attack.

Affleck was driven to the emergency room at Mount Auburn Hospital yesterday afternoon by his wife, Jennifer Garner. According to his publicist, Affleck was treated for a migraine and released about two hours later.

The Massachusetts native is back in the Boston area, making his directing debut for the film "Gone, Baby, Gone," an adaptation of a novel by Dennis Lehane.

Oh yeah...because they would have to put me on EVERY DAY!!!

Maybe someone should tell him about Clusterbusters, it works on migraines, too.  ::)

Maybe I'm missing something, but people are ripping on him because he had head pain?  Is it because he is a celeb or because it is "only" a migraine?  If this led to some press on CH would it be ok?  And don't try to tell me for a minute that if you had his money, you wouldn't seek out the best docs to treat you.  I think sometimes we need to step back and remember that there are people other than ourselves, that get head pain.  Granted it may not be as frequent or as painfull as what CHers experience but for them it is pretty damn bad.  I know plenty of people on here who say, "I wouldn't wish CH on my worst enemy" but have no problem going, "Psst, it's just a migrain, get over it."  Unreal...

Flame me if you want, but really isn't any press for HA good press in order to help get some awareness for us?

I just can't believe it made the news.

I think the word migraine is like a red flag to many of us because we've been told the ch is migraine so often.  I'm one of those lucky ones with both and there is a distinct difference, even though some of the same medications work on both.

My Dr is still treating me for migraine, even though I gave him ch logs and detailed history.  He can't seem to get past a certain point, but he is at least willing to try.  Even when I tell him how I am using the "migraine" medicine to adapt it to the frequency of ch.

I think migraine is bad and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, either.

What if this was a cluster attack? It may have been and maybe there's more to come.

Of course such renowned Thespians often tend to call embarrassing maladies anything but what they may be.

Something else to think about.

Its mis-directed ripping. Should be ripping the press for making a big deal over some guy going to get treated for a migraine. Happens all over the US every single day.

I've seen the clip on all the local news shows about 20 times today.  Waste of news space.

I was ripping the fact that it is in the news.  The only reason it is in the news is because the guy is famous...The only time the press sees head pain as reportable is when Ben Affleck goes to the hospital, Jennifer Garner at the wheel, and is then driven home by his brother...

Un freaking believable.  When the upper eschalon of our society gets a headache it makes CNN.

I think it is ironic.

The other thing I think is ironic is that when there is blatent and open racism on this board, which is undoubtably offensive to our suffering brothers and sisters of hispanic descent, and may deter hispanic sufferers from feeling welcome on this site, when that is going on...I get ripped for thinking it is funny that Ben Affleck is on CNN for having a migraine.

Whatever.

If he were to become a clusterhead, it sure would hurt him ... but it would only help us  :-X

UNsolved

Guess I'm weird - I was actually glad to see this story on the news this morning.  I remember reading an objective of one headache organization or other that stated, "Find celebrity spokesperson"  - Well...how about Ben Affleck?  I think that's kinda cool that they are talking about something so often trivialized and bashed in someone so often revered.

I dunno....that's how I saw it anyways...

When I read that piece, my first idea was: what if that was a clusterheadache? I don't hope it to anyone, but having a celebrity sufferer sure would make ch known.

One of the Chicago Bears had CH a while back.  Don't remember his name, but since he wasn't one of the "stars" on the team, it didn't get much press.  I think with all the new doc shows coming out, we need to strike up the letter writing campaign again.  Hit all the big ones, it's worth a shot.

I can't believe that I am going to admit this, but I wrote to Dr. Phil about CH.

Honestly, I did.

Hey, what the Hell, it's worth a shot.  I'm going to write to Grey's Anatomy later today.  They did an episode about something that only about 50 women in the world have, why not CH?

Some thing about a woman who was "aroused" all day every day.  I don't remember what they call it...she would have the Big O all the time.  No matter what.  They even said that there are only 50 documented cases of this.  Maybe it is called PSAS?  Maybe?  Don't really recall. [smiley=huh.gif]

PSAS is correct.  Can't remember what it stands for, but I knew the episode you were referring to the minute I read your first comment on it!

I wrote to Oprah awhile back.  My aunt even worked for her magazine (assistant publisher).  No luck - but I did try!

And good for you for standing up about the racism, etc.  Much agreed.

Has anyone thought about writing to Reader's Digest or People?  Have your doctor write an introductory letter.

I wouldn't bash anyone who sufferes the pain. The media really gave this minimal attention---however if it was Oprah it would be 24/7/365.
