Title: Two Down - One To Go!!!
Post by Gator on May 29th, 2006, 2:19am
Well, the second of my three sons graduated from high school on Friday.  My oldest boy came home on pass to watch his brother graduate, but he got called back to Fort Polk on Friday morning and didn't get to see it.  Fucking Army!  I'd like to give his fuckstick C.O. a piece of my mind.

Breathe, Mike...in...out...in...out...whew...

Anyways.  Where does the time go?  It seems like just yesterday I was pushing him on the swing and wrestling around on the floor with him.  He's moving out of the house next month.  He and a friend are going halves on a two bedroom apartment in town.  It's going to be different having only one kid in the house.

My youngest will graduate next year.  Can you say Empty Nester?  I thought you could.  Talk about mixed emotions.  I'm looking forward to it, but then again...

Fort Polk--------wow that would make my brother cringe. We remember that place well !!

You mean "Little Vietnam?"  Yeah, there's plenty reason to cringe.  What's wierd is he is in the same engineering unit my father was in when he was in the service and stationed at the post I was attached to when I was in the Louisiana Army National Guard.  Spooky how things work out sometimes.

Congratulations Mike on the graduation of this son.

We know that we have to let them grow up, it is the inevitable cycle of life but it still does not make it easy to start cutting the strings.

How's Jane doing Mike? Give her my love won't you?  :)
It must be so strange to have them get to being grown up and gone, it hit me just now that Brid will be a teenager next year and it's downhill all the way from there.. I'm not looking forward to it!!

What is it like now ?

Mike - it gets better after a while -- kinda like the day your last child started school and you knew they were growing up.

When my Buddy moved out (his first semester in college) it was with mixed feelings, but we actually saw more of him AFTER he moved than before. Guess we were just a place to go. Finally had to sit him and his roommate down and explain that they have GROCERY STORES to PURCHASE food and Mom's STORE is off limits. (When they got hungry they just came to my house and emptied the freezer, pantry - whatever).

And just wait till they get in a financial bind -- :) (and they will), you'll see more of him than you ever did -- and you may get a lot smarter than you were before he moved.

Congrats on getting him to graduation and enjoy the last one --

But always remember -- THEY'LL BE BAAAACK....

Hugs BD

Sounds like you've raised some great kids there Mike, and you have every right to be proud.  I'm still trying to figure out where the time goes... :-/  When you figure out that one please let me in on the clue ok? My brother asked the same question yesterday.  He was in shock that Dylan was old enough to have his learners permit.

Congratulate all your son's from me and mine.

With Love,

Pegg

Congrats to you and Jane, Mike.  :D
A warning, though... once you finally start loving the empty nest... someone is sure to move back in, LOL.

Congratulations, Mike.  My daughter, Jessi, graduated last year, so  I can still relate to all those emotions.  You still have one in the nest, so hopefully you can adjust a little at a time. At one year after graduation, I can say that there are plenty of good things about an emptier nest. ;;D

Thanks all.  I am proud of our brood.  They are all good kids.  A handful at times, but then what normal kids aren't?  The beast visited me as we were waiting for things to get started.  I said screw what anyone thinks.  I am NOT missing another graduation.  (I missed the oldest son's graduation because I was on the road on a computer consulting job)  I whipped out a pre-filled trex syringe and shot the bastard down right there.  After about 7 minutes of rocking, groaning and holding my head, it was business as usual.

Helen, Jane asks about you all the time.  She and I can't wait to see you and everyone else again at this year's OUCH convention.  Is it July yet?

z/S, the Army has changed a lot since those days.  The post has changed some in the last, OMG has it really been 26 years?  :o   as has Sleezeville (Leesville).  I haven't really explored the post much.  When I go there it is to visit Kenny and his wife, not to relive the old days.

Barb, I have miraculously become much smarter since the oldest moved out.  He calls me for advice now and then and actually listens.  LOL  I don't think I'll know how to handle it if all three start thinking I'm actually an intelligent person.

Pat, we are definitely looking forward to some of the aspects of an empty nest.   [smiley=bloos.gif]

It looks to me like you did some good work.

Congratulatons Mike and isn't it nice that you're still keeping busy nudging another? Feel good, ostensibly, it's what we're here for. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/kids walk.gif
