I'm facing a real Delihma in my life for the first time in a very long time. I'm trying to figure out what to do and I would welcome any thoughts from the Family here. Most or all of you have been through this or are still going through it!
Saturday the 13th of May I received a very startling Letter from the Veterans Administration. Seems that they think I intentionally neglicted to reply to 2 correspondenses from them, the first and Employment Questionairre in September of 2005 and the second, a notice that they were reviewing my Disability case and had determined that my condition(Cluster Headaches) had improved and they would be taking away my Disability Pay.
Its really odd that I have received all my medical appointments,medications and other notices from them, yet these 2 documents never made it to me.
Affective May 1st 2006, No more disability Check. My sole source of income for over 19 years.
I am trying to put a resume together and figure out a diplomatic and poinient way to fill in the 25 years its been since I worked for anyone??
Terri and I have been planning on this next year to reattempt the Chemo for the Hep C. She has to be at home to care for the Grandkids and me, the Treatments completely incapacitate me and last attempt I only made 5 month, ending in the hospital with a severe concusion.
I got so weak that while standing in the shower running the cold water over my head for the Cluster attack I was having I managed to pass out and slammed my head into the tile floor in the shower stall?
Natureally I have appealed the decision, but by default for not returning the forms I never even saw, I have no means of supporting the home or Grandkids??
So, aside form the obvious, I know I have some pretty good computer skills that I didn't have when I last worked, Still having between 3 to 15 attacks a day I'm thinking its going to be a little tough to find a nitch to fill? Not even considering the weakened state I live in from the High Viral Load of Hepatitis C.
Any and all suggestions would be Greatly appreciated! This is a very serious situation so no humorous replys Please! thanks Pappy

John, I think you're not getting any advice here because most people don't have knowledge in this area.

I DO know that once Kirk sees this or maybe even Terry Gore....they will answer you if they can help.

Pappy,
Fight like hell. See your local Veterans Service Officer. Write your Congressman. I'm am totally not kidding. And while your at it, give 'em hell cause your data was probably some of that that was "randomly burglarized". You got more skills in your pinkie than most have in their entire body, but that is not the point. Your clusters haven't been miraculously cured, correct? Then screw them and their "letters you failed to respond to". I am so not kidding, one veteran to another, this is a fight worth fighting. Need to talk, strategize, whatever...pm me.

Sure have missed your mail, I was trying to be humorous, I didn't really expect any advise, I have seen indirect post that touch on the subject without actually commiting to answering directly.
I am back here finally because it took me this long to get my head straightened out.
Depression is a very uncontrolable animal, I never thought it would get a hold om me, certainly never did because of Clusters.
I guess quiting all the meds I was on kind of fried my brain Chemistry and its just getting normal again. Still missing my Daughter and her Baby John Michael, just not crying any longer. Things will work out, and maybe I can get back to feeling like I have a voice that needs to be heard again soon! Love ya Sis! John

I dunno hun.. I would think it may be easier to fight their decision than to try & start over in the workforce.Get documentation from your docs..see if that helps..appeal the decision until they r sick of hearing from you & cave in just to make you stop!

I'd also check with a reputable Disability Claims attorney in your area. Ask for an innitial free consultation. See what would need to be done.

;;D Thanks All, I have an appeal in but it could take months to even years, took 2 1/2 years last time, by then we'll loose everything, well not that I have much, Lost My Mind, Lost My Comfort Zone! Lost my ...... well you get the picture, still have My Love and the Grandkids so I am Blessed already, just looking for some fodder to fill a big hole in time, Probably wasting my time anyway!! Exactly why you should get a free hour consultation with a disability attoney. There possibly may be a way that they can find for you to get checks pending the outcome of the appeal and an investigation into their records that these supposed letters were even sent.

With what I have seen on the news with many, many Veterans personal information getting stolen, you would think that securing those records would be their [Veterans Admin] highest priority. ::)

I don't have much to add to help in this situation but I did want to say I'm glad to see you back posting again.

NIh- uhh, Pappy! No rolling over.....you deserve these benefits, and you are struggling thru not one, but 2 nasty afflictions!!!
Please talk to Nancy about help with the HepC. She and Red are doing well, and I KNOW she would want to help out!
As for your benefits.well, you have proof that the CH did not "go away", nor are you "miraculously cured".....you are still a Clusterhead with Hep C..and a Veteran-right??
Well, fight for what you earned........get some good people on your team and I'll betcha win!!!

Contact your representatives! Bombard them with letters and phonecalls. I know people who've had some major problems with the VA here and their representatives have worked miracles. Contact the press, do everything in your power to bring light to this situation! Hell, call Shawn Hannity and Bill O'Riley!

Hey Pappy,
Wrote a long post concerning your situation, sorry it took so long for me to even see it.
Not enough energy in me to try to repost again to this ... said "page expired." Guess I write to slow these days!
But, I think we can get this resolved in a few weeks to a month and skip paying the lawyers and dragging it out over years.
We've been best of friends for years now and I think I can help. If you can send me a copy of your appeal letter, my bet is we can redo it and get action quick. I do have experience with this sort of thing.
