Title: Amber Alerts: Updated New Case
Post by catlind on May 22nd, 2006, 10:52pm
If a child goes missing in your community, DO NOT ALLOW THE AUTHORITIES TO DENY YOU AN AMBER ALERT.

Amber Harris, age 12, here in Omaha, got off a school bus that was on video, she was never seen again.  5 1/2 months later she has been found dead.  An Amber Alert was never issued, no search parties, no detectives, no proactive measures, no search dogs.  If they had done what they should have done, Amber might be alive.

MAKE THEM USE THE AMBER ALERT.  I have a 12 year old daughter, this hit way too close to home.

On top of that, 35 yr old Tracey Tribble was missing for 3 weeks, they found her body in the Missouri river near Omaha/Council Bluffs/

Then there's 19 year Jessica O'Grady, missing 2 weeks, her car has been found but she has not.

Then there's the body they found ina  barrel in the river.

Tell me, does that not scream serial??

yes I've become a very very overprotective mother.

Do the same.

Cat

p.s. news story on this at www.wowt.com

Update:
17 year old Sonya Houston is missing.  No amber alert as of yet...the site is: http://www.nsp.state.ne.us/amberalert/

Tell me, please someone tell me, how the fuck do I make sense of things like this???

There's a 3 yr old missing in Minot ND, amber alert is out.
They have found Tracey Tribble, 35yr old missing female and believe the husband may have a role, and they have not yet found 19 yr Jessica O Grady, but they are investigating her boyfriend.

Ok, so Tracey and Jessica may be domestic issues and not connected, but for crying out loud, a 17 year old is now missing.....WHERE THE HELL IS OUR POLICE DEPT!
WHERE THE HELL IS OUR GOVERNOR???

Cat's embarking on a huge media stir the shit campaign.

They use Amber alerts here, I've heard them many times on the radio.

There can't be anything worse than losing a child.

Thanks for reminding us about Amber Cat :) I pray none of us ever have to use it.

They use them here pretty regularly.  They even post info on the car, if they know it, on changable message boards, above the expressways.  Now that I have kids on the way, I don't think you are being over protective, just smart.  Maybe if we made the penality for crimes against children, stiffer and added a little public humiliation, this would go away...or at least decrease.

Cat you hit the nail on the head!

NEVER let some beaurocrat deny you an Amber Alert. If it turns out to not be needed then at least every measure was taken and all is good, but if it is needed then the response will be a welcomed site for the family and maybe another life saved. I would rather have 100 false alarms than 1 real need for it. If it is a false alarm then I can go home knowing in my heart everyone is safe and get some rest, but if it is real and noone calls then I would feel guilty for a long time knowing maybe I could have done something and never got the chance. I would assume most here feel the same, I could be wrong but I doubt it. Where I live now there was a young lady about 2 years ago came up missing and her baby still in the crib, no search for 2 days and when they did decide to get people together to search her body was recovered within 6 hours. She had been dead 12 hours. they figured she was left raped and beaten and survived and suffered for over 36 hours before she died. of course none of that made the news only the she was abducted and was found dead. The bung hole that did it is in jail awaiting trial still.

Sorry I had to go off a little, but incompentence of that magnitude just sets my stomache into full tilt pandimonium.(sp)

But back to the point as Cat said never never never if you child is missing let them hold off on issuing a Amber Alert!

I just can't get over the fact that they didn't bring in search dogs right away to find her trail.  They spent 2 weeks investigating the father who some 10 years ago had trouble with the law.

My daughter is the same age as Amber.  God help whoever hurts my children, the cops better find them before I do, and even then they will need an entire brigade of marines to stop me killing the bastard.

Erm...sorry this hits WAY too close to home for me.

As Sean said they use the Amber Alert now in Ma whenever it is needed.  We have neon signs where they post discriptions of suspects and victims posted over the highways. They have been successful in finding a man that abducted 2 girls and got to them before he could kill them... and they knew they would be killed.

It is such a shame about your Amber, and ironic.  The original Amber was from Texas  She lived only a few streets away from where she was taken in front of her brother as they were riding bikes.... 12 kids a day are taken nationwide... I'm with you Cat... if someone took Breezy I wouldn't want to wake up anymore.... love to you and thanks... ree

ps call your congressman and tell him your pissed about the wait in the Amber case in your area... sheesh.
