Title: Just to let you know
Post by Richr8 on May 21st, 2006, 5:54pm
I've been a little light keeping up lately due to business travel and the fact that my twins graduate from High School this week.  Their older brothers are in from new York and California, my sister and her family from Tennessee and all this with the X-wife and I living on opposite sides of town, not to mention that this is the first time any of us have been together since the break-up. The whole situation is a logistical and emotional nightmare.   The last guests leave Friday, June 2nd, so it will be awhile before my life is back to it's typically disfunctional state, that is, if I live through it all.  ;;D

thinking of you all,

Rich,

I know this is tough for you but can I give you a piece of advice?  No matter what, don't let your emotions get the best of you and create tension.  Find a way to focus all your energy on your kids and make sure the break-up is transparent.

My college graduation was a horrible couple of weeks for me because my parents had broken up 6 months earlier and wanted to split the time with me.  My brother (who was working in England at the time) had to call my parents the week before and threaten them to get them to quit it.  Even with the threat, I would have rather that they had stayed home.  I love my parents and get along with both of them very well now, but they all but ruined my colllege graduation.

I'll get off my soapbox and say congrats.  It is an achievement for parents as well as the students and you should be very proud!

Thanks Fram!  That's the goal.  So far so good.  My oldest boy stayed with me last night (he's still sleeping so I snuck in here for a while) and his younger brother with Mom.  Today we are all getting together for dinner and an Honors function for one of the twins.  That would be the extremely bright one.  Tonight the older boys switch venues for sleep over.

Man that would be a rough one..heck with me I find big family gatherings AWKWARD anyhow and that's with everyone gettin along and on the same page.....well kind of sort of. Anymore I dread them.......am sure the inlaws think I am one 'piece of work' cuz of it but at least I didn't go and stand around lookin stupid or leave any bad impressions fumblin for stuff to say or talk about when I did skip out on stuff. I get out of goin when I can but never used to be allowed to bow out till the past few years.....it was mandatory you show up like it or not...busy or not....sick or not. Anyone else like that ?? I like em all.....kinda sorta......but just find it a struggle and uncomfortable. My family never had big gatherings....we all got along tho but everyone is stretched all over where they live too.I thought I'd get better with all this but seem to be gettin worse instead.......I'd be hidein under a rock if I was you. My parents split up when I got outa highschool which shocked me and seems to of started this downward tred. Hope ya get thru it all unscaved......good luck. Broken ties Pam

That's awesome.  My mom and dad took a while to figure out how to do it and because they figured it out they have been able to enjoy my brother's wedding and grandchildren much more than they did my graduation.  Also, my father's father was able to be comfortable at my wedding with my mother there as well.

I am very impressed that you are so level headed.  My parents are good people and it took them YEARS to figure it out.

Best of luck to you and congrats again.  Your kids are lucky to have you.
