Looks like a 100% agreement in the " NO" catagory.

Obviously people in Palm Beach, Fla. and Beverly Hills< Ca.  don't partake in polls.

Huh? I clicked the results and my screen said the first 3 choices were even at 33% each.

I think It's rigged.

Hey Mel, are you starting a business?

It said my vote was not added since i had already voted on one of the polls - however, it was my 1st time at the site.

I would vote no at this time due to finances.

Charlotte

PS - I thought you said, "Can you guys help me out without taking a poll?" which I thought was really funny.

How oddly strange that some of you couldn't vote. :-/  I am very sorry about that!

Tom K- I am in Central WI, where the closest "cities" are Wausau & Stevens Point.

Anyway, I have been toying with the idea of becoming a Special Occasions Decorator, but need to start out with something small, like childrens birthday parties.  Eventually I would like to work my way up to Anniversaries, First Communions, Sweet 16, Holiday & Adult themed parties (NO, not THAT kind :P).

I am researching right now, but this all feels right to me because it's something I love doing and does not take me longer than 2 hours to do (decorating for a kids party).  I'd come in, set up and and leave.  The clients get to keep the decor, and the kids would get to take a themed activity home with them.

It said my vote didn't count, but I voted no. that's not to say that there aren't people out there that would. People pay to have just about anything done so they don't have to do it themselves. Case in point, my wife has a housekeeping crew come in.  Toilets? We don't clean no stinkin' toilets!

I voted and the results say all answers are 25%.  What's up with that?  I really don't think it is possible for every answer to be even.

Mel....Does this $100.00 include all party expenses or just your fee for labor?

What I am trying to get at is..........is $100.00 enough?

My neice just threw a party for my sister.......a hugh party, but I helped her decide the theme, buy the decorations (many stores involved and repeat trips with swatches of material), order the food and cake, pick it up, decorate the hall, present the food, and later the clean up.  There are so many steps involved, even with a very small party.

I think party planning is the next big craze and will be worthwhile, but how involved do you plan to get?

Donna, I hope you dont think my post was aimed at you....I was just busting Mels chops and letting her know how I would vote.

I agree that $100 is not enough, if you have to buy the material and spend two hours setting it up...$100 is not enough!

No problem.....I never gave it a personal thought.

Thanks for caring, tho.

That sucks, because I could hook you up with some of the families on the North Shore.  They would pay and well...the mentality there is if it doesn't cost a lot, it must not be good.  Works for me because I can get $175-190 per person for a 3 course dinner!  It's nice being a caterer on the North Shore!!! ;;D

You can start at $100 to get your name out there, but after a few parties, the rates go up.  Set your hourly rate around $60, include all of your time on the event, i.e.; trips to the store, driving time included, set up and talking to the people the event is for.  Mark up everything you purchase at least 15%, including gas and incidentals.  You will do fine, but remember to grow as quick as you need to.  What I mean is don't get over your head, and don't stretch yourself too thin.  It will come together, it will just take some time and determination to get your name recognized...then the world is your oyster!!  Good Luck and let us know how it goes!!  If you need any advise, just let me know, I'll be glad to help you out any way you need!

I got the same message

Sean.....................................

edit to add, picking up all the stuff,, setup, and cleanup Mel is worth 250-300. All material expenses are extra.

Sounds like a cool small business venture, definately target the yuppies, anything blue collar they run away from. They'd spend 500+ to go to a kids resturaunt/small hall to have them do it for them. I like it, I'm gonna suggest that idea to the wife, I think your on to something bigtime ;;D

Edit 2, Barbara says they're adds are all over our local paper, its 200-250 for a "tea party", and 300-400 for a "birthday party".

My vote went thru for the second site......I used to be the big party planner with our groups for birthdays and holiday stuff and it gets PRICEY !!!!! I'd buy balloons and alot of cute silly fun things to set around people (drunk people in alot of cases) could entertain themselves wit or me watchin them doin so. (no not sexv stuff) I'd buy plates that suited the theme and napkins and plastic silverware.....theme cake and stuff to hang on walls and party lights. Not to mention munchies and plastic glasses and stuff. If it is a big party I'd say almost DOUBLE that hundred bucks and go by size for a price. I have spent TONS on our get togethers and finally got burnt out on it......no one else brought anything and I knocked myself OUT runnin around buyin the stuff at different times from different places and lookin for the rite stuff and settin it all up early. Now it's mostly 'private' favorite munchies stashed and a few things to set out so they all TAKE THE HINT !!! I paid for all the stuff myself ! It's alot of work......spent 3 to 4 hours settin up for a big halloween party at a small legion one time and 'no one else' had the time to come early and help. So price it to pay yourself makein it worth your while and stay FUN........friends in need Pam

First of all, ROTFLMAO @ Jonny!! [smiley=laugh.gif]  Moi?  Throw $100 bills around?  Pppffftttttttt!  :-*

Secondly, Donna, it'd be for decorating only and the fee would include decorations and my time.  I can get the decor for around $50, that includes balloons, streamers, tablecloth, dinnerware, plates, cups, napkins & confetti.  That'd be enough for 8 kids, plus I'd have some extra money to get additional decor AND the kids each an activity or goodie bag to take home with them.  If there would be more kids, then the price would naturally go up, but it still wouldn't be outrageous.  Now, I do not come and do clean up, I simply come and set up the place (or room) and then go.

I could do the clean up afterwards, but I don't think so, LOL!

Tom K, you are so sweet!  I do wish I lived in a different area, but am definately not wanting to get over my head in this.  I want it to be on my schedule, because all I'm looking for is to make a little extra cash each month and be able to bring my son (or daughter) with me when I have to work.  It is quite impossible for me to get a job from someone else right now, as it would disrupt our lives like you can't imagine. :(  If I have any questions at all, I will definately ask you!  Thanks!

Sean, cool!  You know, for elaborate decor (think wedding planner), it is going to cost some definate $$$, but for a small kids birthday?  Not too bad, and so many families have both parents that work nowdays, I thought it would have been a neat idea and not too inflated.  I enjoy decorating very much and will perhaps rethink my pricing after I've tried it out. :)

Thanks everyone!

Thank you for the insight Pam, and you're absolutely right.  I'll definately think more on the pricing scheme.  I'm doing a lot of research before I jump in with this, so the feedback is great.
