The equipment operator rate in Boston is 49 dollars and some change, if your by chance in local 4, your guaranteed 40 hours per week, time and a half after 8, double time after 40. Crane/excavator/backhoe doesn't matter, your looking at 2K a week ;;D Sean........................... |

Title: Re: $600 per hour Post by Melissa on May 13th, 2006, 10:58am Hubby owns 1/2 a frontloader with his dad. BUT, he could use it for a business if he wanted to. His dad is on the lookout to buy an excavator, but I think his brother will be using that one, not sure. What sort of jobs could my hubby do with that? Anyone know? |

If I was hired out with an excavator at $600.00 an hour I'd dig them really slow. 8) |

Title: Re: $600 per hour Post by karma on May 13th, 2006, 11:53am Biggest crane I've worked with was a 1200 ton crane at Hess Refinery in St. Croix. Cost Hess a million bucks each way to move from Texas. |

Title: Re: $600 per hour Post by cootie on May 13th, 2006, 12:15pm Friend of mine in Arizona started a crane business.....power plant he works at is goin to go offline soon enuff cuz of the immisions standards they can not afford to make. So he started a new business to get going to keep working. Anyhow......he has two trucks. Sent me pics of him changeing motors in some jet planes.....the crane had to hold em in place to take old out and new in. Very impressive. Rather dangerous too if ya ask me. He does some interesting jobs with it. High places Pam |

Yes, you are. Go back to school and study to be a crane. A friend was just talkin about renting a bucket-lift; that was only $250 for a day, but that was a self-operated thing that probably costs a lot less to start with. They are selling a piece of land, and the price might go way up depending on what the view at 15 feet is like. Whatcha lifting with the crane? |

Title: Re: $600 per hour Post by maffumatt on May 13th, 2006, 5:56pm I left my usb cable at work so the pics will wait until Monday. The crane we used is the exact crane that was used in the Terminator 3 movie, pretty cool it actually has flames painted on it. We picked up the B end of a locomotive (170 ton) and pulled the trucks out from underneath it and replaced a wheelset and traction motor. Things didn't go as planned and it took a little longer than it should have. However I do have pics of men standing around with their fingers up their ass just as I knew I would. |

Title: Re: per hour Post by BobG on May 15th, 2006, 1:33pm That crane looks to be about the sise used at my work to lift transformers and reactors. And the price is about the same. Part of the cost is the 2 man crew, and sometimes 3, it takes to operate it. 2 men's wages = at least $60 per hour. And with benefits the cost is probably about $110 per hour (that could be a very low guess). Add in the cost of fuel to deliver the crane and run it for an hour. Then add in the insurance, permit costs, daily maintenance and the monthly payments to the finance company. $600 per hour doesn't sound out of line to me. How much does it cost per hour to operate the train engine? I'll bet it all ads up to close to $600 an hour. In the long run it doesn't matter what it costs. It's all passed down to the customer at the bottom. |
