Title: Skunked!
Post by Paul98 on May 10th, 2006, 10:12pm
Sweet Jebuz it stinks in here.  My dog suprised a skunk on the back step.  He (the skunk) took aim and blasted the screen door.  Of course the breeze is inward so the whole house is fumigated.  It is so strong it dosn't smell like skunk anymore.  Smells like chushed fresh garlic was shoved up my nose.

Since I don't have tomato juice, is there any substitute?  Vinigar?  I don't think the dog got it but it is in the tracks of the screen door.

-P.
A.K.A. -STENCH.

I love livng in the country, I love living in the country, I love living in the country.........

Oh yuk.......one sprayed near the house last summer and the smell was so strong I kept wrenching to peuk.......guess that is a reaction sum have. There is a home mix for STINK but it uses peroxide, dash of mild liquid soap and bakein soda but it will BLEACH stuff out at the same time. And if ya store it in a airtight container it will EXPLODE. Man that has got to SMELL AWEFUL. Stinky pooch Pam

I'll give the peroxide and Dawn a try.   I think my sinuses are fried.  I can still smell (more like taste) it.  Should be an interesting day at work.  If folks keep their distance I know I have more de-oderizing to do.  LOL.

Just be glad it wasn't so strong so as to make your eyes water... Polecat spray is like tear gas in high concentrations.  Some ppl will have such violent reactions to it that their throat will close up and they could possibly go into convulsions.  Ahhhhhhhh... Nothin' like the fresh scent of polecat to clear the sinuses 'eh?

LMAO

Sorry for that, but that's just one of the perks of living in the country. Skunks happen!  ;)

Keep tomato juice in the cubbard (the BIG cans) for emergencies - Granny's law!

Try the Dawn and peroxide - then Frebreeze everything. And then do it again for the next few days -- and enjoy the country life.

Hugs BD

[smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif]Sorry, I have to laugh....a previous dog of mine got skunked three times during his life (not the brightest bulb in the chandelier), and after the first time, I have never been without tomato juice--even now when I live in town.

That happened to my daughter, she was chasing the dog at my mom's house (in the country) and SURPRISE! the dog was chasing a skunk, then the skunk aimed and fired...my mom pulled up at my house I went out to greet my little angel, and could smell the wretched stench from the porch...I quickly stripped the little one and threw away the clothes and put her in a bath of dawn, vinegar and tomato juice....it worked pretty good, but getting it out of her hair was a nightmare!!  Hope you are headed toward a stench free house and nose soon... ;)

There's a product you can buy at pet supply stores. I believe it's called Skunk Away. It will take some time and a few baths before the smell is gone completely. I keep a bottle in the garage. My dogs are dorks.
The thing about skunk smell.... it's not the worst smell I've ever smelled, but it's the most smell I've ever smelled.

Funny thing about Skunk stink. From a great distance, I actually like it. Up close though, is another matter. Did you know that it is used in some purfume?

It smells like marijuana from a distance. When we first moved out to the country, I'd smell it every morning, it seemed. I finally asked my husband... who in the world could be smoking so much weed that I'd smell it like this? (yes, I'm a dork, too, LOL) I grew up in NYC, then Albuquerque... who knew?

Hey Steve-

I can't believe there is nother person in this world that likes the FAINT smell of skunk.  Me too.  I guess it has to do with smell association.  Faint skunk smell=country=pleasant.  Gettin down & dirty with the ass end of a skunk is a whole nother matter.  The smell really changes as the concentration gets stronger to the point it just dosn't smell like "skunk"

I doused the area good with dawn and peroxide this am.  I'll hose it off tonight.  See what happens.  Thank God the screen door was closed!  At least it acted like a blast deflector, otherwise I'd be dealing with it INSIDE the house.  LOL

Bleaugh. Horrible stuff. You clowns seem to know what you're doing though.

It reminds me of the huskies we used to get at the vet. One had two visits that required us to knock him out so they could yank out the dozens of porcupine needles stuck in his face, mouth and gums. God, I felt sorry for that dog.

now nani, it really smells more like pot in the growing/budding phase than in the smoking but how would you know that? ;;D

karma should be able to relate to this cuz between where he lives and Dawn Beach along the back road there is a hill that absolutely reeks. I have been told by the natives that you really don't want to stop your car and spend any time up there or you might just disappear  8)

My daughter was a cross country runner and during a training run she jumped over a dead cow in the trail and landed on a skunk. We made a bath and dumped in a huge box of Massengill and no joke it worked really good.                                                                                                 Potter

Oh Yea, like I need to be seen walking out of the pharmacy with an industrial size drum of messingill saying I need to "douche" my pourch.  They will probably hear "pooch"  and I'll be banned from the store for being a pre-vert.  LOL

Actually I'm thinking the key to getting rid of the smell is to change the pH.  Tomato juice and douches are pretty acidic.
