Title: Now what to do? Post by Redd715 on May 9th, 2006, 2:32pm One of the dogs went AWOL. Jody has been dog sitting for his brother and sister for the last few weeks. Bailey, the schnauzer (Lisa's) and Jake the yellow lab(Jess's). Normally when you let the two outside they stick like glue to each other. Jake normally doesn't even leave the yard, though Bailey has been known to wander off from time to time. Jake, is the one missing. They weren't outside for 10 minutes maybe. Both dogs were nowhere to be found at first, but when it began to drizzle, Bailey came back home because he hates rain. Jake wasn't with him. Jody has called the sherriff's dept and the humane society both. He's walked and driven around his neighborhood and there is no sign of Jake anywhere. What else can we do to help locate this pooch? I've never had a lost pet before so I'm at a loss, and Jake is Jess's baby. Yellow labs here are like gold, Jess and Jody are afraid someone may try to keep him if found. Jake also is NOT neutered, and my gut instinct is he smelled a female in the neighborhood. It's been 4 hours now. This is just not like Jake to do this. He always comes when he's called. |

Title: Re: Now what to do? Post by marlinsfan on May 9th, 2006, 2:40pm When I was a kid, our dog got lost. We found him about 3 miles away at a house that had a female dog in heat.... Do you know the female dogs in your neighborhood? |

Title: Re: Now what to do? Post by Guiseppi on May 9th, 2006, 2:40pm Lost my lab for a week. I gave up. My wife made up flyers and posted them on sign poles, mail boxes, telephone poles etc. A lady called and I got her back. I hope it works for you. My dogs mean the world to me. Guiseppi |

Title: Re: Now what to do? Post by chewy on May 9th, 2006, 3:05pm Always have your dogs carry your name and number on an ID tag and microchip them. My guess is Jake will return when he gets hungry. |

Title: Re: Now what to do? Post by Redd715 on May 9th, 2006, 4:32pm Jody just called, said he thinks he saw Jake running through the corner of the neighbors yard about an hour ago, but when he called out to him, Jake just turned the other way and ran off again. He went over that direction and talked to the Doctor who lives behind that lot and he said he saw Jake too, but didn't see what direction he ran off in. Called his brother again, Jess said the tags are on the other collar back at his place. Jess is working on the road for the last few weeks and this is the reason Jody has been dog sitting in the first place. I'm off to the store to get some flea and tic shampoo. If and when this pooch comes back he'll need a damn good bath, and the tics are vicious around here right now. The number of deer tics we've found on Jake after a single session of "catch the frizbee" is incredible. Can't think of anything else I can do at this point. |

Title: Re: Now what to do? Post by cekelle on May 10th, 2006, 12:43am Good luck with the dog hunt! I usually just wait and Sparky will always come home. Now with the other one, Gucci, he tends to go for quite a trek. Once found him 5 miles over in the next town! Hopefully he is still in the hood'. ;) |

Title: Re: Now what to do? Post by Redd715 on May 10th, 2006, 10:10am The kind Doctor had taken Jody's phone number in case he saw Jake again, and luckily he called just before the sun set, saying Jake was in his yard again. It was raining pretty hard, but with the cell phone to his ear, Jody ran out the back door, threw 3 yards, and went and got him. Deer tics abound still, even after the baths of BOTH dogs. Jody yanked one off himself this morning, was pretty well imbedded in his side. I found two crawling on my wrist that must have been in the sleeve of my jacket. How they found their way in there I don't even want to fathom a guess, but now I have the kreepy krawlys. Oh well, this is why I'm a CAT person! [smiley=laugh.gif] |

Title: Re: Now what to do? Post by imnotbub on May 10th, 2006, 11:29am I've noticed an increase over previous years in ticks as well here in south Jersey. I wonder what's going on to get them going like this. Steve |

Title: Re: Now what to do? Post by Charlotte on May 10th, 2006, 1:38pm deer ticks - check each other out for bites and bulls-eye type marks associated w/Lyme disease. Early treatment with several kinds of antibodies help. And now that my neurotic worry is done - so glad you've got your dog back. Charlotte |
