Interesting article.  I must be an extreme dreader.  I'm miserable for my entire cycle.

They got a cure for that?

My thoughts exactly.

Rich, I think anyone who has CH is an extreme dreader while in cycle, especially chronics. I always used comedy or sick twisted humor as a diversion to the dread.

Peace,
Carl

But in another light, anticipatory anxiety serves as a buffer between knowing what to expect and the surprise of what happens when you aren't expecting it.

The body needs the advance warning and the opportunity to adjust as opposed to the shock of surprise.  We may dread what is about to happen, but at least we have had a chance to mentally prepare for the event.

This makes me wonder what chemicals are released when anticipating this pain?  Do they help or hinder?

From the article at Mel's link:

"The National Institute on Drug Abuse funded the research. What's the link between dread and drug use? It's indirect, but now that scientists know how healthy people's brains anticipate unpleasant consequences, future studies can compare how drug abusers process such information".

How about let's say...spending that effort and money into Cluster Headache research?

Oh, that's right, we only make up roughly 1% of the population. Why waste time and money trying to help those suffering from the worst pain known to man?

Drug abusers [self-inflicted idiots] are a much higher priority.

*Good catch Mel. Thanks.

Anticipating pain hurts. So does watching America's Funniest Home Videos.
