Title: If you've read The DaVinci Code..

You'd know about Rosslyn Chapel.

Here is a pretty neat link about the carvings in the stone... http://heritage.scotsman.com/myths.cfm?id=627062006

Wonder if anything will come of it?

When I lived in Edinburgh I went to Roslyn Chapel a bunch of times.  It is beautiful, and they are doing, and have been doing, a lot of restoration of the chapel.  It is a very interesting place.

I actually bought a print of the inside of the chapel that I have hanging on the wall of my apartment.  I very much like that place.  It has a few graves outside on the small grounds, and there is a small castle a few hundred yeards behind it.  I like any place with gravestones.

As for DaVinci Code, my wife is reading it now, and I will read it very soon.  As a student who studies Christianity and Popular Culture, it is probably something I should read.  It sounds like an interesting read.  Especially since so many people think its "true."

You are so lucky Casey!  I wish I could see it firsthand myself, but I'll have to settle with pictures.

BTW, the book is very good (IMO) and I read it cover to cover.  Couldn't put it down!  I am also anxious to go see the movie, as Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors, and having him in it is just 10 times greater.

:)

not exactly on the same level  :-[  .... having someone read Holy Blood Holy Grail is like having someone read the Book of Numbers after they said they really liked the Book of Proverbs in the bible.

I found HBHG to be quite a slog of a read. Interesting stuff but not a good read. In the end it appears that all the Prior of Scion stuff has been fabricated anyway by that french dude.

Actually Matt, I have that up for auction on eBay right now.

I tried to read it, I really did, but it's just too wordy for me.  I think I made it to page 43 and had to give up. :-[

I would love to pick your brain sometime...I've been studying christianity for a some time now and you just can't talk to people about it anymore, they are so bound by the covers of a book that their minds are so closed off....It is all so facinating to me....

I just finished reading "The Gnostic Gospels" by Elaine Pagels.  I thought it was excellent!  I have just ordered 3 more expanded books from Amazon, as I'm always learning.

Pick away.  Though, between CH, and sitting at my desk all day, I am not quite sure how much of the ole brain is left to be honest.

What do you mean by people are "so bound by the covers of a book?"  Just curious?  Do you mean the Bible?

What I think is funny is that almost any time (lately anyway) I tell someone that I am a doctoral student in theology, they ask me about The DaVinci Code, or The Gnostic Gospels, or even the Gospel of Judas now.  The interesting part is that theories about Jesus not really dying on the cross, and having a family, or whatever, have been around for a very long time.  Also, there are a lot of "gospels" that "didn't make it" into the New Testament (what we call the New Testament Apocrypha).  But it is the appearance of these theories and extra-biblical texts in popular media that has made people really interested as of late.

Anyway, you can email me about stuff if you want.  It is a subject I love talking about.  And, if I get off my butt and update it, you might be interested in our discussion  here (http://www.translucentbeauty.net).
