Title: Just have to ask Post by fireball on Apr 28th, 2006, 12:08pm I've been coming to this site for a while now, and I do a lot of reading and a little posting. I just have to ask a few questions, because I feel so out of the loop about some things: What is all the stuff about trolls? And, why do people come to the site and pretend to be someone else? I figured it would be easier to ask here than to read back through and try to piece it all together. I'm just confused about why there is conflict here at all. So many people find it to be a place of refuge -- a place to come home. This site is a wealth of information and loaded with great people who are caring and special and give incredible advice. I just can't figure out why anyone would be here for the wrong reasons. Any input would be appreciated. :) |

Title: Re: Just have to ask Post by Redd715 on Apr 28th, 2006, 12:16pm There are some people who have it in their nature to want and desire, if not some sadistical need, to prey on the suffering of others. Some, (snake oil venders) for profit and glory. Others (mental-cases) for sheer personal ego fulfillment. They feel better about themselves by stirring up crap with people. They get off on it. That pretty much sums it up. |

Title: Re: Just have to ask Post by floridian on Apr 28th, 2006, 12:19pm Your right - this site is great for finding info and support for CH, trying to piece things together. No idea why people enjoy being trolls (or torturing small animals) - but some people do. Some people use sock-puppet identities because they need an imaginary friend to agree with them, although most of us out grew that phase around kindergarden. Just got to tune it out like tinnitus - its often there, sometimes loud, but focusing on it doesn't help any. |

Title: Re: Just have to ask Post by medic1852 on Apr 28th, 2006, 12:24pm TROLL= someone who stirs up trouble for no reason except to cause conflict. As for the rest most people hang out read and get to know others personalities, then start to post to allow others to get to know them. Allowing others to get to know them makes them welcome in the community. There is a lot of excellent information here if you need it; ask and listen. You will also learn by reading that most everyone here will share and be compassionate to others in the communities needs and pains. If your here for the last two then great hope we make you feel welcome...If the first definition fits...well I am sorry. Just my two cents. Rodger |

Title: Re: Just have to ask Post by nani on Apr 28th, 2006, 12:28pm Those are good questions, Kathy. But like Flo said, we just have to learn to ignore them. I usually like to sit back and wait and see before I make an assumption about someone. And then, I try to just ignore them. They hate that, LOL. hugs, nani |

Title: Re: Just have to ask Post by fireball on Apr 28th, 2006, 1:50pm Thank you all for the insight. And to Rodger, I just want you to know that I am definitely here for the right reasons. I've been a supporter of a chronic for 8 years now. I've been given a lot of support here. I also try to give good advice when I can. I'm one of the members who came here and had the "WOW!" response -- I couldn't believe there were people out there who really knew what we (my husband and I) have been going through. I was just surprised to read some of the negative postings. It's just sad that not everyone is here for the right reasons. |

Title: Re: Just have to ask Post by Charlie on Apr 28th, 2006, 6:39pm Best to ignore the obvious crap for now. I can't do it all the time because I've been here too long. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/great monitor.gif A lot of it isn't very serious or in fun. Now and then we go overboard but it doesn't last. You should have seen the old board! http://www.kolobok.wrg.ru/themes/kolobok-light/images/smiles/rolleyes.gif?SSImageQuality=Full We keep most of the nonsense on this board though. Have some fun though and try to enjoy when we go after a snake oil salesman. It's a release for a lot of us. Glad to have you and stick around. Charlie |

Title: Re: Just have to ask Post by Carl_D on Apr 29th, 2006, 7:05pm I think some people are just so miserable that they aren't happy unless they can make others miserable. I remember one of the trolls posting after antagonizing everyone here that "You have to admit it, you haven't had this much fun in a long while have you?" If you call THAT fun, then your dad must be your uncle too! I made a resolution to ignore the inflammatory anal postings and in short... DON'T FEED THE TROLLS! If you don't feed them, they will be forced to find food on another website than this one. ;) Peace, Carl |
