Title: My first ebay experience
Post by Kris_in_SJ on Apr 23rd, 2006, 8:24pm
OK - I'm always starting things a little late.  Everyone else in the world has bought or sold something on ebay!

P&G stopped manufacturing my favorite in the whole world hairspray - Physique Volumizing Aerosol.  After a google search, I discovered 4 cans of it up for auction on ebay.  I immediately signed up and started bidding.  For 3 days I did nothing but check my bids and up them - against someone named "Stinky."  Four hours before bidding was to end, I placed a bid I didn't think anyone would beat.  I went to bed happy at 11:00 EST.  Next morning, Stinky had outbid me by $1.00!  Why - coz bidding didn't end until 10:30 PST!

I think I hate ebay!  Does anyone out there have any Physiique Volumizing Aerosol hairspray for sale?

Kris

Sorry, Kris....I don't have the hairspray.  Otherwise, I would just give it to you.  And I will keep my eyes open for some.  That mean, old, Stinky may have automatic bidding going on.  You can have Ebay do the bidding for you automatically up to the maximum you'll go.  Mean ol' Stinky! >:(

You must learn about 'sniping'.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=snipe

There are sites that will snipe for you, just seconds before an auction ends.

Nothing is more gratifying than getting a nasty-gram from someone you just beat with a snipe.

I confess to some sniping in my day.  Beleive it or not, I had a very fast (100Mbit/sec) link directly to eBay's servers (well, a couple of switches away, but more direct than any normal network user).

Anyway, whenever I really wanted something, all I had to do was be sure my last bid was higher than their last bid.  I could always make sure I got the last click, but I had to kind of guess where the highest bidder had set their limit.  This wasn't as hard as it sounds, as you could test the waters with a couple bids before the deadline was near.  If tnhey tended to up my bid by $5 or $10, or more, I could guess where their next bid would be set.  So, at the last possible second... boom.  It wasn't fair, I admit.  But it was fun.

I used to spend alot of time on ebay lookin at stuff and checkin out cool things of interest.....but the novelty has sumwhat wore off cuz of the snipeing power and other crap. Old slow dailup makes it almost impossible for pages to load sum days too. Plus all that dam spoof mail where they say sumone is tampering with your account and to LOG IN and check it but by doin so your loggin into a bogus web page and they are stealin yer info. So don't pay any attention to any of that you may get from them (which is NOT from the official site)......got my account stolen once and charged big time for big bucks products I did NOT list but they did make it good and took the charges off. Shewwww !!! I'd buy sumthn cool for a few bucks and find out shipping was 10 times over the price of the product.....a small t-shirt for 4 bucks would cost me 15 in shipping ??? That took suma the fun outa the SUPPOSE'D DEALS !!!! Then I started gettin threatenin emails about why I had NOT paid for items I bought I never bought......jus anouther scam to get me to log in to a bogus official lookin web page and they steal my info. I closed my paypal account cuz of some sort of wierd tampering attempts that SPOOKED the shit out of me. More fun to buy sumthin and pay rite away and it be sent the next day.......so........goin back to snail mail sucked and noitced alot of sellers only will accept paypal !!!!! Good things gone bad Pam

The secret to Ebay is to know what you are purchasing, know the price you would pay downtown, and set your limit below that AFTER shipping costs. If it goes above that, quit.
Look for another one, because there is ALWAYS more.
