Title: my mom
Post by maffumatt on Apr 21st, 2006, 7:01pm
My mother called me at work today and told me that she has cancer. Its melanoma and has spread pretty fast. The docs thought it was a skin lesion at first and said it was nothing to worry about. Then they thought it was shingles. She isn't the type of woman that just goes to the doctor for nothing and she had had it for awhile before she went. After a biopsy they finaly found out what it was. A few prayers wouldn't hurt and would be appreciated.
Matt

O great St. Peregrine, you have been called "The Mighty," "The Wonder-Worker," because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you. For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you.

Amen

Matt I'll give you and your family all I got my friend, let mom know we're thinking of her and keep us posted when you can.

My mom is a survivor........she had it bad.........had to at first keep gettin small areas removed from her face and she kept complaining her nose didn't feel rite but the doc said not to worry. She went to anouther doc and they found out she had melenoma really bad and the main tumor was in her nose area and here they had been removeing small tumors it was sending out thru roots or sumthing or other and the main part left go. Well anyone that knows this stuff KNOWS it does not like messed with and will spread. Anyhow......they got it all out of her nose area and she had to have her nose reconstructed. It's be about 7 or 8 years now and s far so good. So.......it CAN happen. Wish upon a star Pam

Matt,

sorry to hear about your mom. Melanoma is a tough one, but not impossible to beat. As a non-toxic addition to the standard treatments, consider ECGC, apigenin and quercetin.

Quote:
Int J Cancer. 2000 Aug 15;87(4):595-600.

Flavonoids apigenin and quercetin inhibit melanoma growth and metastatic potential.

Caltagirone S, Rossi C, Poggi A, Ranelletti FO, Natali PG, Brunetti M, Aiello FB, Piantelli M.  Department of Oncology and Neurosciences, G. D'Annunzio University, Chieti, Italy. caltagir@cmns.mnegri.it

Flavonoids are a class of polyphenolic compounds widely distributed in the plant kingdom, which display a variety of biological activities, including chemoprevention and tumor growth inhibition. Our aim was to investigate the effects of several polyphenols on the growth and metastatic potential of B16-BL6 melanoma cells in vivo. Intraperitoneal administration of quercetin, apigenin, (-)-epigallocathechin-3-gallate (EGCG), resveratrol, and the anti-estrogen tamoxifen, at the time of i.m. injection of B16-BL6 cells into syngeneic mice, resulted in a significant, dose-dependent delay of tumor growth, without toxicity. The relative descending order of potency was EGCG > apigenin = quercetin = tamoxifen > resveratrol > control. Furthermore, polyphenols significantly potentiated the inhibitory effect of a non-toxic dose of cisplatin. When tested for the ability to inhibit lung colonization, quercetin, apigenin, and tamoxifen (but not EGCG or resveratrol) significantly decreased the number of B16-BL6 colonies in the lungs in a dose-dependent manner, with quercetin and apigenin being more effective than tamoxifen. Interestingly, quercetin, apigenin, and tamoxifen (but not EGCG or resveratrol) significantly decreased the invasion of B16-BL6 cells in vitro, with quercetin and apigenin being more effective than tamoxifen. This suggests that anti-invasive activity is one of the mechanisms underlying inhibition of lung colonization by quercetin and apigenin. In conclusion, quercetin and apigenin inhibit melanoma growth and invasive and metastatic potential; therefore, they may constitute a valuable tool in the combination therapy of metastatic melanoma.

ECGC is from green tea - decaf is a good source if caffeine is an issue (and this is a time to get more than the occasional cup). Foods rich in quercetin include apples and onions - chicken soup is more than a placebo, and onion soup is more than French!  A rich source of apigenin is chamomile, and it is also available in a purified form in capsules in most good health food stores.

May today there be peace within.
May you trust your highest power
that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let his presence settle into our bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It`s there for each and everyone of us.
