Have you ever been to Tasmania----The beaches look fantastic-----and if you have the name of any resort/hotels where someone should stay ?!?!!?---My son was in Australia and New Zealand for his graduation from High School 4 years ago---He loved Austalia---but really loved New Z.

Too right I've been to the Apple Isle and the photographs don't do it justice, especially in springtime. Beautiful place with a remarkable concept of its own history.

I personally prefer to stay in backwater pubs rather than anywhere swish because that's where you get to meet the real people. The locals. Just ask about the weather and complain about the goverment (any government) and you're immediately made to feel at home.

Brian,

my dad's dream was to visit Autralia one day. He did pass away before that dream came reality, but I've suggested to mum that we should visit Australia one day in his honor. :)

I just looked at those post cards. Amazing views! :)

Did you look at just the postcards of Tasmania?

Check out also the Torres Strait and Dauan Island (that's where I live) and then look at the aboriginal 'cave' paintings from the Laura district.

I spent many glorious years there a bush guide and left shoe-prints where only bare feet had ever stood. It was a very levelling experience knowing these people were here tens of thousands of years before Europe was even habitable given the ice age.

You and your mum will be very here welcome, Sanna, because we respect those who are happy to respect our environment, history and sensibilities. Let me know your interests and I'll happily make sure your trip down under is everything you want it to be.

My Brother in law lives in Mooloolaba. They keep telling us we need to come down and see them. It has been a long time dream, but may only be a dream, in the end. So horribly expensive to fly there from Montana.
Oh well, I guess if not for dreams, we would have nothing to work towards...

Austrailia and Africa have always been the places I dreamed of going to.......I love the aussie's accents too. The Golopagos (spelling....duh) Island has always facinated me. Those big komodo dragons scare the hell outa me tho. Yummy in the dragons tummy Pam

A local pet store offer'd a monitor lizard to me dirt cheap cuz they were afraid of it and wanted to get rid of it......dam thing would grow to 4 foot and was very aggressive. Read they can get out of there terrariums or aqauriums by jumping and banging the lids off.....very strong. But......knowin it would get that big and be that agressive and STALK MY CATS gave me the hee-bee-jee-bee's. I said NO THANKS......it would attack when they tried to add food or clean the tank. Yipes !!!!!!

Yipes alright. We call them goannas, though they're no relation to the iguana, and some varieties grow huge. (Bigger in Texas, of course.) They can give you a helluva fright in the bush and if they're standing on their back legs helping themselves to the barbeque plate then you just leave them to it.

And they don't just stalk your cats darlin, they eats 'em.

I have no Idea about the size and locations in Oz NZ and Tazmania but have you ever been to Central Queensland?? I ask because I have family there on a dusty ranch type thing and I scared witless of snakes!! (not the spiders) and they want me to visit soon!

Relax, Scotty. There's no snakes in that area. (The crocodiles ate 'em.)

As to size and distance, you can pretty much lay a map of Oz on a map of mainland USA. Whereabouts in Queensland you headed? Give me an idea of your interests and I'll happily help you plan your trip.
