Title: Arrrrr! Post by Rock_Lobster on Apr 8th, 2006, 11:02am About 3 minutes before going to pre-op. Not wearing underwear, Mel. http://www.geocities.com/amish_elite/03-14-06_0615.jpg Yes... that is why I missed Davcon. Building my house, as most of you know. Over the Christmas holiday myself and 3 others were carrying a 20ft cedar 2x12. Normally not all that bad, but this one was saturated with water... weighed about 200 pounds, I would say. I had the middle. The guy in back fell, and I was a bit forward... thus the beam tipped up off the front guys shoulder. So, on a set of stairs, it went fully onto me... and I went down. Did the whole ER thing. Pain lasted a few weeks, and was only severe for a few days. But... ended up with a half paralyzed leg. Bummer. So I had surgery about 3 weeks ago to relieve the pressure on the L4/L5 & L5/S1 nerve roots. A two layer discectomy. Back up and around now. Recovery was worse than I expected. Not letting anyone around my back for a while... my back could be on fire and I doubt I would let anyone put it out. The procedure was only moderately successful. I would say I have regained about 1/3 of the feeling/use that was lost. Could take a long time for the nerves to heal, if they decide to. In a few weeks I get to see how focked up my golf game is. ;;D Did not want to sulk here so I took a month or two off. Arrrrr! Lobstah |

Title: Re: Arrrrr! Post by nani on Apr 8th, 2006, 11:23am OW! :( I was wondering, too. I'm glad you're healing and getting back into the "swing" soon. One of the truths of aging: You start the lower the bar on what constitutes..."Hey, I feel great!" ;;D hugs, nani |

Title: Re: Arrrrr! Post by Karla on Apr 8th, 2006, 2:11pm I had surgery on L5/S1 and had numbness going down all the way into my left leg and foot. It remained for a couple of years after surgery then went away. It took me about 3 months to be able to walk again. Dr. said I might not walk at all. I showed him. However my back remains to have extreme pain. I am on the fentanyl patch and as long as I remember to change that every 3 days I am fine and have no pain. But if I forget to change my patch I am in extreme pain again like I never had surgery. I am really disapointed with the back surgery. Also now no chripractor will adjust my lower back because of the surgery there. That sucks big time. I have to see a massage therapist for it. I am glad to see your on the mend. We have missed you around here. I will keep you in my prayers. |

Title: Re: Arrrrr! Post by Rock_Lobster on Apr 8th, 2006, 5:28pm Much appreciated all. Wicked sexy slippers, Jonny. No telling how many ladies felt me up while I was under. Likely a dozen+. Agreed Karla... it was not the piece-of-cake I was expecting. Sorry to hear about the pain... that is the silver lining in this I suppose... 100% PF... only the nerfed sections of the leg/foot. |

Title: Re: Arrrrr! Post by cardogman on Apr 8th, 2006, 6:00pm Did they do a fusion with allograft from your illiac crest or cadaver and put some implants in to fuse the vertebra or did they only take the two discs out. Burt |

Title: Re: Arrrrr! Post by Paul98 on Apr 8th, 2006, 10:32pm Hey RL, sorry to hear you had to have the disks scouped. Hope you had surgery soon enough so the neuralgia in the leg isn't permanent. I had the same thing done but it took a year for them to allow the surgery. Damage was permanent. At least you injured it doing something that dosn't provoke laughter. I got ramed by a sheep. I'm the "butt" of many a joke. ;;D Keep active, lift with your legs and don't gain weight. It will reduce the chance of a second operation. -P. |

Title: Re: Arrrrr! Post by purpleydog on Apr 8th, 2006, 11:48pm Wrokk, I am truly sorry to hear of your surgery, and I hope for a complete recovery. I'm sorry to have missed you at DavCon... if I didn't know better, I would have thought you were the streaker running around!! Get better!! Chris :) |

Title: Re: Arrrrr! Post by Rock_Lobster on Apr 9th, 2006, 12:02am Many thanks all. The thoughts are much appreciated. No hat talk, Broomie! They gave me so much shit about that. Kept saying 'we said -everything- comes off', as all the ladies at Davcon would have. Lol Jackie... I made them give me two gowns, since I did not want my ivory ass hanging out. Feel free to comment on my attractive milky white legs. At least the tool still works fine. Did threesies today. [smiley=crackup.gif] [smiley=crackup.gif] |

Title: Re: Arrrrr! Post by cootie on Apr 9th, 2006, 11:09am Those fentanyl patch's are a life saver.....but I have trouble with them startin to peel off and gettin fuzz from clothes ect stuck so they don't restick at all......so I bought some water proof tape. But now I sticky squares all over me where I move the patch every three days and can't get that stuff off !!! Certain places it won't stay. But they sure do seem to give you some normal days.....yeah......if I can keep track of the days correctly I must admit too like karla said. Hope yer feelin better......how come them gowns and footies don't come in pink !? Gown clown Pam Half my ass is still numb from onea my horse wrecks years ago so after about 15 years I doubt it will change.....had half my foot numb for several years but is a bit better. I hate that constnat BURNING feeling......that is a hard one to try to get thru without relief. |
