Title: Re: Child Support Vent... Post by seasonalboomer on Mar 29th, 2006, 9:06am The system "is what it is". No amount of venting will change it. But, people do go through this every day and find ways to come out on the other side with lives that, while maybe different, are survivable and most often thrive as a result. Your JOB right now is to start figuring out how you're going to FIGHT for yourself going through this process. Do you have a good divorce attorney? Are you looking for the types of information that will help you and not simply cause you more anguish and anxiety? This really is a great place to vent but you are presently in the position of needing to really take an inventory of your situation and start putting together an action plan. (I'm really sounding like an not a very nice person today -- so i'm going to step away from the keyboard for a little while) Scott |

Title: Re: Child Support Vent... Post by Gena on Mar 29th, 2006, 9:15am If this was a thread about spousal support, I would not have a problem. But, its child support!!!!! Do you have a problem with supporting your child. The money is not for your ex it is for your children. To help pay for food shelter, and everything else they need! Sorry, I don't mean to come across mean spirited, but my ex is always trying to come up with a reason not to pay his support. It just up sets me.... Flame away Gena |

Title: Re: Child Support Vent... Post by nani on Mar 29th, 2006, 9:40am Aren't most state child support tables based on income? ie: each child would get a fixed percentage of the payers salary? Your lawyer can help you with that. One of the guys that works for my husband just got notice that his paycheck is going to be garnished. He missed paying 4 months. His payments are based on his income from the job he had before, and he never notified them of the change in jobs (or address ), so now that they've found him, he's going to have 65% of his next several paychecks garnished. The lesson...be honest, be on time. And having been a single mom, I will tell you that all that money will end up going to the kids ...one way or another. Not aimed at you, Ken....but, It really burns my ass when I hear guys talking about how high on the hog their ex is living off their child support. That's total BS... if they were the ones with the kids, they might understand. |

Title: Re: Child Support Vent... Post by imnotbub on Mar 29th, 2006, 9:50am If she's on gov't assistance and does not work, try suieng for custody. It's a long shot, but under the circumstances you may win, that is if you want custody. If you don't, then you should be prepared to pay whatever the state deems correct. Steve |

Title: Re: Child Support Vent... Post by rickyshot on Mar 29th, 2006, 10:04am Why is she on public assistance?. Is she not able to work. Yup you need a good lawyer. I was a single mom dealing with a deadbeat dad (due to the fact he is an addict) and he still owes thousands of dollars. My kids are grown but they still garnish his check, Just off of principle and the hell me and my kids went through financially and emotionally, I feel he owes it and can pay from his SS checks, pay off what you owe. The big amount per month 426.00. Now that was a grocery bill for two weeks with young children in those days. Forget about anything else, clothes, meds, school etc. My salary was ridiculos without medical insurance many of the times. WE ended up in a shelter. I was the working poor. Just a rant...... I realize you are not a deadbeat, most states go with income of the supporting parent and you can claim it on taxes. Check with a lawyer or good tax person about this in your state. |
