Title: Re: stupid is as stupid does Post by Lizzie2 on Mar 27th, 2006, 1:59am Yeow!! Did it require stitches or medical attention? Are you up to date on your tetanus shot? Stabbing yourself with tools usually means a tetanus shot is required unless you just had one recently!! At the very least, hope you cleaned it up well by washing it out, peroxide, and keeping it covered!! (Sorry - the nurse in me can't resist worrying about people who have accidents with sharp objects!! haha) In 7th grade, I was making wooden bookends shaped like sailboats. In a momentary lapse of common sense, I was cutting down the outside of the sail with a coping saw while my left hand was gripped around the book end. The saw slipped and sunk into my left index finger right at the knuckle near the tip! I actually remember being in total shock. I thought, "Well that can't be good..." I then pulled the saw out, set it down, and went over to the sink and started washing it off. However, I was soon realizing that pressure was a little more important than water - got some pressure on it and asked to be sent to the nurse. By the time I got there, I was shaking because it wouldn't stop bleeding!! My mom had to pick me up and take me to the ER - got 3 stitches and a tetanus shot!! It just so happened that it wasn't very far before my piano recital that year that I sliced through my finger like that!! I remember that not going over very well with my teacher... LOL The junior high said that I was the only kid they'd ever sent to the ER from woodworking. Figures... I'm a klutz. ;) Make sure you keep an eye on it - and go get a tetanus shot tomorrow if you haven't had one yet!! Hugz, Carrie :) |

Actually a paper towel and electrical tape make quite a nice bandage (they didn't have duct tape). |
