Title: Is this good or bad? Post by Jonny on Mar 22nd, 2006, 3:36pm Blood pressure 163/113- pulse 73 Anybody know? |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by echo on Mar 22nd, 2006, 3:39pm I think the second one is high. Should be around 80 if I remember correctly. Over 80 is hypertension. I'm 128/78. Pulse - who the hell knows. You may have hit the magic age where you need meds to control it. |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by Dragnlance on Mar 22nd, 2006, 3:40pm this is high Ideal is 120/70 your pulse is ok... they may put you on blood pressure pills |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by Guiseppi on Mar 22nd, 2006, 3:40pm Johnny, if you're serious, you are way past red zone on your lower, and kinda scary on the upper. Pulse is fine but your BP is waaaay bad. Call your doctor now. Guiseppi |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by BarbaraD on Mar 22nd, 2006, 3:46pm slow down kid -- it's too high (esp the bottom). Are you getting hit again? That usually runs mine up... If not something's wrong - keep a check on it or call the doc before it goes up anymore. Now you listen to mom, ya hear??? I mean it! Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by Dragnlance on Mar 22nd, 2006, 3:46pm my bp is usually 118/68. nurses always recheck. if the top number is over 130 and the bottom number over 80 you have a serious problem. Seek medical attention |

Pulse is good, by the way did you use Verapamill as a treatment and now not taking it since you have been pain free...If so you may have developed "rebound" hypertension. Or you may be just at that age where you develop hypertension. But as always check with you doctor, but monitor it daily to see if there are trends. Heck something might have upset you or you had to much salt or you could have hit your thumb with a hammer..But do keep an eye on it since the lower number is in the stroke range... Rodger |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by Ghost on Mar 22nd, 2006, 3:50pm both numbers high looks more like mine now. was told by doc sometimes 2nd number will go up as pain level increases. see a doc as soon as you can ok. pulse not to bad though. Mike Worried ok! |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by nani on Mar 22nd, 2006, 3:52pm From the May Clinic site: A hypertensive crisis is a severe increase in blood pressure that can lead to a stroke. Extremely high blood pressure — above 180/110 millimeters of mercury — damages blood vessels. They become inflamed and may leak fluid or blood. Get yourself checked, bro. You're gettin' old, ya know. ;;D |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by Jonny on Mar 22nd, 2006, 3:52pm Yes Rodg, I have takin Verap everyday for CH for the last 14 years, but because I was PF for almost a year I stopped taking it many months ago. Thanks for the advice you'all :-* |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by imnotbub on Mar 22nd, 2006, 4:22pm That's high reading, but let a doc do it to be sure. A home BP machine might not be very accurate. Steve |

Steve is right on both counts. However, I use a home BP machine that allows for many more readings over the course of lifes ups and downs versus that one time doc appointment (where some people get white coat syndrome from the anxiety of a doc visit). The KEY is to take your home unit in with you to calibrate it against what the nurse gets. Many fire stations offer free BP checks also. Jon |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by floridian on Mar 22nd, 2006, 5:14pm You need to keep checking it - you should be sitting down for 5 minutes or so to let it settle, and measure it several times over the course of a day. If it really is high all the time, then you need to control it, bro. |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by Lizzie2 on Mar 22nd, 2006, 7:41pm Do what Jonathan says and check it again after sitting quietly for 5 minutes...if that's possible. ;) Also, may not be a bad idea to check it in the morning, afternoon, and night - keep a record. I was recently told in the ER that mine was from verap withdrawal...I'd stopped verap about 2 months earlier. I wasn't in the ER for high BP, but it was something like 136/105. I went to my doc the next day, and it was back to normal. He had me do a holter monitor because heart rate is high, and I ended up on atenolol 25mg. Who'da thought coming off verap would cause so much chaos?? LOL Get it checked - we need ya around for the long haul!! Carrie :) |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by cootie on Mar 22nd, 2006, 7:55pm You haven't become short fat and bald have ya ? Yeah take your bp after sittin quiet a bit and do it twice......Brad has a small portable one he checks his with at home off and on and always does it twice like doc said. Good things come in pairs Pam 8) The portable units average around 50 bucks....they even have em at Walmart. |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by Charlie on Mar 23rd, 2006, 1:09am Some good advice here. To me you pulse is just fine. Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by Dragnlance on Mar 23rd, 2006, 10:01am Something else I should mention. In most cases, high BP does not mean you are going keel over today. HOWEVER, long term high BP causes the heart and arteries to become weak. People that have congestive heart failure often had an issues with high BP. Congestive heart failure is fluids built up around the heart, which occurs most often when the heart is unable to pump as vigorusly as it used to, and fluids collect around it. Sorry to add to your stress man!!! Lance |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by rickyshot on Mar 23rd, 2006, 10:50am Yes Jonny get it checked out. Do not play. The thing about a high BP is that often it is high and no symptoms in sight-very dangerous. I hope it is just a rebound thing. ARe you getting ready for a cycle God forbid. Last summer when I ended up in the hospital for week my BP shot up to 180/110 during an attack. I never went that high before. I run 90/60 normally and do not ever try the BP meds like verap ever. Normally during attacks I would to up to 130/90. That alone made me dizzy but 180/113 for me that was nuts. Gives you an idea how I was feeling. How are u feeling otherwise? |

Jonny not to stress you anymore, but Lance brought up a very good point about long term high BP. Along with the vascular damgae, it can cause a little side effect called ED. In other words it can take the lead out of your pencil. And we all know what happens to a lame mule..... Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by Lizzie2 on Mar 23rd, 2006, 3:00pm You could also check a set of "orthostatic" signs... Check your pulse and BP while lying down. Then sit up slowly, wait a minute, and check it sitting. Then stand up, wait another minute, and check it standing... Write all these down to show a doc. Also, write down if you feel any symptoms with change in position. Any dizziness with sitting or standing? Any palpitations or feeling like your heart is racing suddenly? Have you checked it today? Update! Carrie :-* |

Title: Re: Is this good or bad? Post by zwibbs/Scott on Mar 25th, 2006, 2:28am Both numbers are too high....The second number is the important one. My neighbor is a cardiologist and he told me anything over 80 is considered high. It is important also to check the machine that your buddy has....check someone else's BP and see if it is giving accurate readings. DO NOT MEDICATE YOURSELF !!!-Go to a cardiologist who will give you the proper medication. If you aren't experiencing any problems----go to your nearest pharmacy---they have Blood Pressure machines--------most importantly---TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF !!! |
