I just heard on CNN that Cyclone Larry is a category 5 with 180 mph winds and it just hit QLD today and that the state of Queensland is being evacuated. Good luck Brian. BB |

Title: Re: Hey AussieBrian, you OK ? Post by AussieBrian on Mar 19th, 2006, 9:23pm Denny and I thank everyone for their concern. Cyclone Larry crossed the coast at Innisfail, just south of Cairns, about two hours ago. At this stage there are no reported deaths though some people are missing and there have been injuries. Property damage is extensive and our cane farmers devastated. Category 5 is as bad as it gets and it's now moving slowly west towards the Atherton Tablelands as a cat 4, though hopefully it will downgrade quickly as it climbs the mountains. We're a long way north of the affected area and expect to see nothing from it but we have many friends in Cairns and our thoughts are with them. Regrettably the aftermath of these storms can be very far-reaching and there's no way our supply ship will be arriving on Friday as scheduled and our beer is on board. A state of disaster has been declared (for the cyclone, not the beer) and the army will be arriving within hours. Our hearts go out to all affected. |

Title: Re: Hey AussieBrian, you OK ? Post by Barry_T_Coles on Mar 19th, 2006, 9:52pm Hi Brian Been keeping an eye on Larry and thinking of you and Denny but from what I could pick from the sat pic's you are as you say far enough north to miss the brunt. A Cat 5 is one mother of a storm; only seen one of them over here in the 25 years we’ve lived in the Pilbara & really don’t want to see another. Hope all your friends are OK Brian and my heart goes out to all over there; I’ve got some Nieces & Nephews over there and have been trying to get in touch, so far no luck so I’m guessing the com's must be out, going to try my sister in S.A. and see how I go. To Chewy yes we rate our cyclones the same as you do with hurricanes. Let’s hope it weakens quickly and doesn’t do more damage further inland. Shit shame about the beer to. Kind Regards Barry |

Title: Re: Hey AussieBrian, you OK ? Post by chewy on Mar 20th, 2006, 7:25am Glad you OK. We can feel your pain. Lets hope Larry and Katrina dont couple and breed. There is an upside for you though. Your not depending on FEMA. |

Title: Re: Hey AussieBrian, you OK ? Post by Barry_T_Coles on Mar 20th, 2006, 11:33pm I spoke with my sister last night and the kids are far enough south so as not to be effected by Larry. Lets hope the one following dies out before getting to the coast, they certainly could do without another right now. Kind Regards Barry |
