Title: Infested
Post by PL259 on Mar 19th, 2006, 5:37pm
With wild turkeys.
Damn things all over the hill every afternoon. They must be dumb and not realize it is "Turkey Season"! Wish I had a good enough camera here to shoot them  :) Other wise they are safe from me. I think I will sit back and allow some supervised youth hunts.

I have a camera you can borrow. It has a 12 gauge lens, holds a 3.5" roll of lead film, and makes a big boom when you hit the shutter button. ;;D

And after you SHOOT the picture you can process it with gravy and stuffing!

They're gobbleing across all of the ridges right now.  Flocks at between 75- 100 birds and just breaking up for the breeding season.  One hen cackle and the entire valley errupts into a long series of gobbles.

We have some crab apple trees in our back field and all winter long those big clumsy birds were in those trees most of the day.  Some really nice gobblers this year.

The PA season doesn't start until may - the peak breeding will over (in Western PA) by then so hunting will be tough as usual but a good bird is always available.

Slow moist cooking is a must for a tough old bird but slow dried in a smoker makes some really great turkey jerky that the kids love.

Ahhhh spring is in the air.

Walking through the woods hunting one year we stumbled on a wild turkey sanctuary, with nobody around.

Some of these were running around the side of the road but we didn't have any penguin permits.
