Title: Who else has cabin fever? Post by jimmers on Mar 19th, 2006, 11:51am The flowers start to come up, It Snows I can't wait to mow the lawn! I can't wait to wash the windows! My two boys need to get outside, they're driving me nuts! My boat is looking lonely sitting in the garage waiting for Ice-out! The shotgun is cleaned and ready to hunt longbeards! Right now I'd rather sit on a patio chair (With beverage) ;) in my yard than my La-Z-Boy recliner! My golf clubs are all shined up! I'm sure I'm not the only one suffering from this malady! What says you? COME ON SPRING!!!!!! Bored Jimmers |

Title: Re: Who else has cabin fever? Post by pattik on Mar 19th, 2006, 12:25pm I can relate. I'm into gardening, and looking at seed catalogues just doesn't do it for me. But I'm not looking forward to mowing the lawn--just getting some warm sun on my face. But won't it be worth the wait! ;;D |

Title: Re: Who else has cabin fever? Post by cardogman on Mar 19th, 2006, 2:15pm Spring means for me the chance to work on my cars in the noonday sun and then drive the cars. Spring means to me looking at the swimming pool and the dollar bills flying out of it since no one goes in it any more but it's nice looking. With the chlorine and shit and the heater on to entice my kids to go in it but I know they won't. My wife goes in for about 1 1/2 minutes. Spring means to me taking care of the lawn after the gardener scalps it. Spring means to me while waithing for a surgery to start, going out on to first avenue in NYC and just looking. It's actually better when it's really hot out. Then I can think of days gone by. Burt |

Post by Melissa on Mar 19th, 2006, 2:32pm Do like I did, take a couple fuckitall pills then hit the store to buy $50 of useless shit, fill up the gas tank and then drive through the carwash. Drive home real slow so that when you arrive, your spouse has taken the kids ice fishin. I am now gonna have me a beer and knit while I watch "Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy". ;;D |

Title: Re: Who else has cabin fever? Post by Bethany1 on Mar 19th, 2006, 3:06pm I have cabin fever so bad. I want to take my son out in the stroller and walk around the neighborhood but its so damn cold I just stay in the house all the time. I'm not working and all I do is laundry, clean the house, and clean bottles. I can't wait until the weather breaks. We have a few days here and there and then they are gone and its freezing again. I go back to work the first week of May and if the weather stays like this I will go insane. I can't stand being cooped up in the house anymore! AHHHHHH! Ok, I'm done now. |

I'll go for come on spring but, pal, you gotta get a life with the mowing and window stuff ;;D I much prefer cocktail hour on the deck after a long day at the office. Watching the azaleas bloom. Cutting daffodils to put in a vase at the dinner table. Smelling the air. Spring, my favorite season. Sandy |

Title: Re: Who else has cabin fever? Post by minnie on Mar 20th, 2006, 7:59pm heres a article about schools handling it.Spring fever and it's snowing on and off here. Managing students' spring fever March 20, 2006 Dear Diary The Our Schools page features a regular diary item written by a student or staff member at a local school. They will share their experiences in the classroom, and their thoughts on education today. March Madness. That phrase not only pertains to college basketball, but also the energy in our school at this time of year. Weather and seasonal changes can make the students antsy. One day the temperature soars into the 50s and the students are running out to the playground, finally free of their winter wraps and gray days. The next day, the winds are howling, the snow is blowing and children are once again bundled up like Nanook of the North. These outdoor fickle temperatures can result in creating indoor fickle temperatures as well, especially on those days when the weather is such that the students cannot get out for recess. Then March Madness sets in. Imagine being the teacher of 20 kindergartners, gurgling with energy, ants in their pants, all pent up and no place to go. Have you ever been cooped up in a room with 20 little ones who have not been outdoors or able to run around all day? You could light up a small town with the energy they generate. Their behavior begins to erupt, some whine, some cry, some hit and some just pout. You know the feeling, when you want to jump out of your own skin. Our kindergarten teachers, Mr. Berger, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Standish know this state of being very well and they respond to it superbly. They become the ballast for these students who can hardly contain themselves. They calm the storms within the child, and bring sanity and stability, security and understanding to an otherwise madcap situation. These teachers have weathered many storms before and years of experience have granted them the competency to handle whatever lies ahead. They know that soon the month of March will pass and the month of April will arrive. And then we will all sing the familiar phrase, April Showers Bring May Flowers. And that reminds me of a quote by E. C. McKenzie, "School teachers are not fully appreciated by parents until it rains all day Saturday." Marilyn Hample is the librarian at Center Street Elementary School in Horseheads. Her column appears monthly on this page. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright © 2006 Star-Gazette. Title: Re: Who else has cabin fever? Post by stevegeebe on Mar 20th, 2006, 8:44pm Azaleas are in full bloom, iris are four feet tall and the ferns are all unwinding. It's a great time of the year. If you would have seen it mid-September you would not believe it to be the same place. I remember my wife raking debris from a small area of the garden just to see a patch of green. It was heart-breaking. This Spring, the damaged trees threw out more seeds than I have ever witnessed. Places where large pines ripped through azalea hedges are beginning to fill in. But if you look up it's a different story. Some of the older pine trees are 120' tall and 3' in diameter. The less tall pines were blown against the taller ones and are stripped badly. Many of the understory oaks, maples, bay magnolias and many others, were stripped when the pine trees snapped and flew across the forest. It was amazing to see the distruction first hand and try to figure out the sequence and try to imagine the noise. You know what though, the forest and the plants don't care. Time is not something that concerns them. It will all grow back in the usual manner. And we will see a small part of that process. And it will be different. And it will be the same. Happy gardening everyone. Steve G |

Title: Re: Who else has cabin fever? Post by Dragnlance on Mar 22nd, 2006, 9:38am Well, except for like 5 whole days where there was some resemblence of winter, we have been able to ride our motorcycles every day. We ended up with 6 inches of snow this week, but that will be gone in a day or so. Then it will be sloppy. I wish we would have had some winter, and I had money to go skiing. Oh well, I guess I will have to settle for walks along the river instead. ;;D |

Title: Re: Who else has cabin fever? Post by echo on Mar 22nd, 2006, 10:59am Spring is in the air. Dodged our 10" forcast for snow and ended up with barely enough to bury a gopher's a s s. The spring hockey league has begun - life is good. |
