Title: FOLLOW UP TO"WHOA!  I have never had thi
Post by mynm156 on Mar 14th, 2006, 6:48am
Well I went to see the new doc and well he was just that a NEW DOC.   Less than one year post residency.

If you don’t remember what this is all about last week I was pretty upbeat about going to see this new Doctor because his wife seemed to know about cluster headaches and the doctor himself called and asked me some questions.

Well I went and yes he is a new D.O.   But before that he was a Chiropractor!!

Yep a Chiropractor.  He tried to tell me that it was due an area on the neck that needed adjustment.  I told him that I have NEVER seen any formal literature that specifically addressed the efficacy of spinal manipulation and Cluster headaches.

He tried to keep selling me on it saying spinal manipulation has been used for ages on headaches at which point I asked if he even KNEW what Cluster headaches were.  To which his only reply was of course.

They only potentially good thing I got out of him was an open Neurological referral.  He told me to find the Neuro that I wanted on my plan and he would give me the referral.

What a DRAG!!!  HE was convinced that if I would only let him RACK ME AND CRACK ME that I would be better.  I let him do it but made sure that he gave me my meds and the referral.

Glad ya got the referral but those neck crackers scare the crap out of me! I have actually been to a couple of them (for ha's).

The first was this big Greek guy in Chicago who said that clusters were caused by a misalignment of the plates making up your skull and would grab my head and push, prod and twist!! hurt like hell and needless to say did not help. I should have just gone to MIDAS.

The second was a real nice young guy out in Malibu and he said that neck traction would do the trick. I went several times and got racked up until the first time I got hit while in the device, and for some reason they never called me to remind me of another appointment! wonder why ;;D?

 pfdans to ya....................tim

Chiro-talk:

"Do you see how the curvature of the spine at the base of the skull on the model has this nice kind of flowing curve? Well, yours isn't quite like this. But if you get one of these pillows to use when you sleep, and we schedule a series of adjustments you should have the same kind of success that many of my other headache patients have had...So much of it is tension and bad posture. Do you sit at desk all day. That can contribute to the problem with this head posture as well. Have you considered getting one of these ergonomic chairs? I have a lot patients that swear there lives have been changed. Especially if they combine it with one of these hands free head sets. Because you know, when you use a conventional headset you're constantly twisting your spine and the spaces in between each of the discs become worn unevenly. This could be what is contributing to your problem also......."

And it could go on and on.....

Welllllllll........me and Brad can SURE relate to your doctor woes......the doc we like so much is quittin end of the month so we decided to try his ex partner in the next building since we'd at least had hall confrontations with him before when him and our doc were together. I HATE goin to a new doc esp when we liked the last two that MOVED so well and they were both SO willing to help us both and good at call backs or problems. The new guy is ok and kind of cool but we weren't even in the office with him 5 minutes and he said the word fuck 2 times....dunno if he jus thought we were 'cool' and he could get away with it and fit in or what ? But I'd take a cool doc over one that acts like your whineing and just want drugs and won't listen. So I can't complain too much......but......we asked about ch and what his ideas on it were and first thing he did is start preachin to Brad that if he quit smokeing he'd NEVER EVER get anouther ha. At that time I got a bit concern'd......Brad just kind of looked at him and thought 'fuck you'. (pardon my french) I told doc some of what I knew cuz I could talk a hell of a alot faster then Brad to get all the info WE KNEW out fast for his response......he told me NOT to believe a thing I hear or read on the internet !?? I spoke up tellin him about this web site and the people there were old pro's with ch and know about mostl meds and even a few docs checked in. He got quiet but at least he was cool enuff to know when to shut up. So all in all we'll stick with him cuz he is easy to talk to ONCE to can get thru his say on things.....but he was a bit opninated but he did listen and he is cost consious with meds which also is kind of good. He said he can work around our ins co to get more meds paid for IF Brad was to need them. He promised us he was NOT leaveing or moveing or changeing jobs too. This doc is an internalist......can you check with some of them ?? He seems to be willing to go with 'what works' for Brad which was MOST important. He's not totally ch literate but you probly know more then most docs anyhow....so if ya can find one like that it mite work and one ya like. Or maybe that neuro will work for ya ? I'm glad we don't have to drive all day to go to one......and the one Brad went to for a short while had a 3 to 6 month waiting list. Short supply Pam  :o

I was SO freakin nervous meetin this new doc and what he'd say about both our conditions that I made myself SICK.......I guess I have a real phobia about it.....I felt so comfortable with the other doc even tho even goin to see him tramatized ME.   :-/

I had a chiro once who swore he could fix the painful disk in my spine - it was a fractured disk!  I said no thanks, but he did cure my menstrual cramps   ;;D

Quack, crank, moron.

There is no reason to ever see a Chiropractor. Waste of time and it exists mostly because people like going to a guy that won't do anything invasive or stick you with a needle.

Save your money.

Sorry to hear that happened... :(

I went to one once for headaches - but a lot of the stuff he did actually made my head feel worse.  Then, I was warned by a neuro or somebody that on rare occasions, chiropractic manipulation can cause a stroke if the basilar (? not sure if this is the right vessel) artery is narrowed going up to the brain.

I did go to the same guy again.  He actually was very nice.  While I was a piano major, there was a time when the left side of my back was going numb about halfway up it.  He said it was a rib irritating a nerve in the muscles, so I went twice a week for a few weeks.  It actually really did help, and the numbness went away!!

That's too bad he was pushing manipulation so much, though...  Wonder how many other things he will claim he can "cure" that way.  After going through med school, I'm surprised he still thinks that way, although sometimes DO's are more open to the alternatives than MDs are.  Glad you at least got your meds and a promise for referral!!

Hugz,
Carrie :)

Thanks guys and hey seasonalboomer I KNEW I WAS IN FOR IT WHEN I GOT THERE.  His office was set up like a rehab gym.  There were several people there getting some type of therapy. HE didnt try to sell me anything other than the manipulation its just that he is a D.O. now and can charge $$$$ more for his manipulations than he could as a DC.

Met with a new Dr. today.  CH not in his orbit of expertise.

Only good thing was that he had my record from my former neuro who relocated after the storm.  She went way up north...to Shreveport...I think.

I just told him what I needed and he kept writing.  Secured o2 and other meds.  It's almost like Christmas around here.

I had one do me good after a back injury at work but it was the way he tried to convince me and then could not give me any sources.  If he had some legit source I could review and maybe post I might consider it but I just felt like he was trying to sell me a lemon.
