I am fed up with the negative attacks on people and unprovoked assaults so here it is your chance to come after a provoked attack and assualt do your best because I will be back in the morning to belittle you. I am sure while I am gone others will smack you around some but I will take my shots when I return.

Anyway. I would like to see those numbers in print. I read somewhere that more then 50 % of all Federal prisoners are white.

But what do I know I spend most of my time under the bridge in the muck and mire waiting to jump out and grab someone.

Ghost picked those stats from another thread that (I think it was the Bush thread) someone posted those stats in. Ghost just copied them over. The gist was typical, everyone is picking on the minorities, even if we caught them on cameral with TV sets from Best Buy in their arms during a hurricane. (essential to survival don't ya know) ;;D

It's quite possible that the federal prisons are holding 50% white prisoners. I believe it would be the state pens that have the overwhelming minority population. Federal prisons are geared more toward white collar crime I thought.

1. Higher % of minorities commit crimes?
2. Higher % of minority criminals get caught?
3. Police are racial profilers?
4. All of the above

Minorities have a higher chance of coming from 'underpriviledged' environments. This would tend to make them more susceptible to the trappings of a life of crime. They also would be more likely to be repeat offenders, more crimes, more chances to get caught. Police knowing these 'stats', watch minoritiies a little more closely.

And it goes back a little earlier than JFK. Eisenhower (former profession soldier) sent Richard Nixon there to save America from the bad guys after the bad guys kicked the hell out of the French.

Sorry tanner, but I will support a president when I agree with him and not support him when I don't-that is democracy. Vietnam was a mistake and this war is a continuing mistake; Bush and company have lied to us about Iraq from the beginning and we keep on losing the lives of our troops just to help Bush and Co. keep their egos intact-I support our armed forces but I do not support getting them killed for no other reason than to keep Georgie from admitting that he lied to us and made a BIG mistake by going there in the first place. If we fall into lockstep behind a president, no matter how wrong he is, then we stop being a democracy, which certain politicians would love to have happen. The idea of a "Fortress America" is nonsense-we cannot survive without interacting with the rest of the world. I still have nightmares almost 30 years after my service to my country and I don't want anyone else to go through that unless our security is REALLY threatened. This war is about Bush's ego and oil...millions have died and continue to die in the Sudan but we do nothing because they are just a bunch of "black persons" who don't have oil and that is what the Arabs would be if they had no oil. I'm glad that we can still express our divergent opinions in public and I hope that this continues.

ChTom, I respect your opinions and more! I have a feeling we may have experienced similar horror with differeat perspectives.

the "fortress America" is not a concept I believe to be good for us or the rest of the world, but how about the rest of the world interacting with us for a change. We are viewed as a give give nation until someone wants to put us down for the sacrifices we have made. I am not a kill them all and let God sort them out kind of guy, but I would love to see some unity among us while we still have troops in combat!!!

and the georgie thing is classic "one think"

Lots of flack about travel to and from Canada now. We'll will have to spend $50 a head to get a sorta low grade passport for travel across the Niagara River and the like. If you have four kids, it will be nearly cost-prohibitive to go to look at the horseshoe falls on the Canadian side---which is what the worlds sees in photos and film--and come back again. Hockey fans on both sides are already talking about much less cross border travel.

just you, usually those that see racism where none was intended is usually the racist, Illegal is not racial it is what is legal or not. I doubt anyone here has a problem with legal Imigration, and even work permitts or lets say student visa's. If obtained LEGALLY and kept legal. Most here I would venture to say would also agree that Imigration procedure should be fixed and not have to wait approx 7-8 years to enter legally. This country is a nation of Imigrants and we have always with a couple of exceptions welcomed more imigrants.

Remember, all Americans were once foreigners and each group went through discrimination-the Irish, the Italians, Eastern Europeans and now it is those who don't have white skin.

I know I am not very PC but skin color has nothing to do with it, beliefs and intention has alot. There seem to be alot of people out there yelling all whites are racist. where the truth lies within, All people have the ability to be racist, sexist, fanatics, ect... it is only each individual who through honesty with ones self can abstain and become blind to differences, and accept each individual as themself and judge not by differences but by merit and value each person holds to a greater community. It is by our Differences we are alike. The prevailing problem is past prejudicises have affected the way children are brought up and taught, those who can overcome what they have been poisened with during childhood and be as equals as adults are the better for it. We as a society instead of screaming look at me I am different, or judge because someone else is different should be looking around and saying look how much we are all alike. Everyone should experience a week of being helpless and see where there priorities really should be. To run around and blame others for our shortcomings we should be asking ourself what can I fix about me. There are extremest everywhere and they are the ones we are fighting, those that see no fault in them selves and are willing and able to kill because of that. In the eyes of a fanatic all those not like them should die. A true Racist would have no problem killing over that lone issue and a radical fanatic see no wrong in doing so.

I may have bounced around some here but I am sure my message is achievable to most.

Ghost-I agree that racism is present in every race and group of people. It is something that a democratic government should battle and NEVER try to use to its advantage, which I, in any case, believe that our current government does. Be that as it may, you made some good points and expressed yourself well and in an adult, intelligent manner and I appreciate that. Two people can disagree about something and not have to resort to name calling or writing "Troll" in three inch letters as their response. Thanks and I respect you and your opinion.

Some Trolls seem to think attacking others is an opinion, NOPE it is as listed an attack! an opinion is a statement of your beliefs without the assaults and degradation of others to make or try to make yourself feel some how superior. If some one tells a story to show how they are feeling and they are told thier ancestors are evil because of where they are from that is an attack! History shows alot of good people struggled with situations and made decisions they may not fully agree with but thier grand children should not be smacked around for it. Years bring change not just in technology and ideas but in what is socially acceptable. What happened 50, 75, 100, 1000, even 10,000 years ago is different. The beliefs are different and the means are different. Deal with now and here. The thread that brings us together is a strong one because it bypasses race, religion, sex, origin, politics, everything. We are together for a common goal, pain and what it does to us and dealing with it, and trying to make it stop. To attack each other weakens the thread and causes tension where it should not be weakened.

Yep. We just booked a sea cruise to Montreal. The travel agent told us we didn't need a passport now. But, after December 1, 2006 Americans will need a passport to visit Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean islands and, get this------Alaska and Hawaii!

It's not really relative but I looked at a tape I made of "The High and The Mightly." the other day. It's been a rare film and I can't remember if we discussed it here but John Wayne and Robert Stack fly a DC-4 from Honolulu to San Francisco in 1954. It was the first of those not really disaster, "Airport" type flicks. The thing that grabbed me....aside from one guy passing around a .38 carried in his coat pocket and that all the passengers were dressed up, is that everybody had to check in with Immigration before boarding the plane.
