Oh Thank God, after 6 years of retail hell, I have got a new job!  I will be working at a chiropractor's office.  I will be doing massages on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and office work on Tuesday and Thursday.  It's a 9-6 job.  Finally, after 6 years, I will have weekends off.  Thank God!  YEA!

Hey, thats great!!  Is this the one you interviewed at over a week ago that you were telling ASB and me about?  You seemed excited about that one, and it was a chiro-office too.

I worked nights and weekends for 20 years. I changed careers and now have weekends and holidays off, so I can relate. Nothing like being 'normal'. Congratulations and good luck.

That's the real world my dear.
For every professional liscence that I have I first had to pay big bucks for an exam then big bucks for the certification.
I also have to pay for renewal anually and dues for professional organizations.

It's what it is my friend.

If you are ready to start the next phase of your life then you need to go for it!

Go get it Kimmie, I had never made really decent change until I became specialized and certified. Money well spent. Certs and licenses are like check cards.

When I was in my 20s I never ever had a job with weekends off. All my friends had weekends off while I worked. I was in my 30s before I got a job as a graphic artist. It cost me about $600 but was worth every cent. Now I have a job with paid holidays, 3 weeks paid vacation and a pension... go for it girl!! The money can be earned back and you can do massages on the side as well!! I'm rootin for ya!

You have to pay to take the test and then pay for the license? That sucks.
You’d think that the state, or the Feds, would give the test for free to encourage people to improve themselves. If a person improves their lot in life they make more money. More money means buying more things. Buying more things means paying more taxes to the state, or the Feds. It’s a win-win situation for the state.…or the Feds……………
oh, wait a minute………..I get it now.
It’s a scam to fill the state, or the Feds, coffers.
I have a license from the NRC that I renew, for free, after taking a test every 4 years, for free, and get a big bonus for passing the same test that I’ve taken every 4 years for the last 32 years. And I haven’t even worked at that job for 31 years! And for 32 years I’ve taken the test to be “Certified” (I don’t know what the means. It’s bureaucratic-speak.) by FERC. The test for “Certification” is also every 4 years, for free, and it also pays a healthy bonus to pass.
Take the test Kim. Even if you have to pay yourself. It’ll be good on your resume.

Just really upset that I have to go back to my job that I had already mentally left.  It's just frustrating, b/c I was going to use my 401k money to pay for the test, so now it's just gonna be harder.  I cried all night last night and good Lord, it's starting again and I have to go to work in about an hour.  :(

Sorry to hear the disappointing news.  

View it as just another bump in the road.  I still believe you'll do just fine.

Set some goals and don't let anything stop you from pursuing them.  Get your license if that's what you want.  Make opportunities for yourself and give old life hell.

Kimmy if you can find a Delivery job like pizza and get extra cash that way it is fast easy cash a little extra sacrafice will be worth it put away that money and soon very soon you will have it. We all have faith in you and know you can do it.

Give it your all and all will be given back.
