Title: A Story I just HAVE to share...
Post by LeLimey on Feb 27th, 2006, 4:53pm
We went to see Zathura this evening, a space version of Jumanji this evening and it was quite good fun I have to say. On the way out I told the kids that daddy was coming for dinner and pancakes tomorrow since it's pancake day. Brid rolled her eyes and said "Oh that means all we'll be talking about in RE is Shrove Tuesday" so I said oh good, she could listen and learn to which she replied quite haughtily that she knew ALL about Shrove Tuesday.. it was when Jesus came out of the Jungle!
I nearly cried laughing!
I've never watched any of the reality TV programmes but you can't help picking up what they are about so I was being awful asking if it was "I'm a Messiah - Get me out of here!" and saying Jesus wouldn't have any problems with his challenges as he could feed EVERYONE with five loaves and two fishes.. Brid started to get quite narked so I asked her if she was "cross" and that was the point at which she screamed! Needless to say she still isn't talking to me!

To think, I said that like it's a bad thing.....  ::) ;D

I've always said the only reason for having kids is to mess with their incredibly fragile, undeveloped little psyches! Never let em up Limey!!!

I think I would understand your post if you can just define the words in this statement:

Quote:
"Oh that means all we'll be talking about in RE is Shrove Tuesday"

What's "RE" and what's "Shrove Tuesday"?

After you answer that, I'll be sure to let ya know what else I need help understanding!!!

I'm practicing up for September.... ;)

I believe, and I'm sure Edna will correct me,  but Shrove Tuesday is our version of Fat Tuesday.  The day before Lent.  The day that is dedicated to eating and drinking way too much in preparation for the days of abstinenth of lent.

RE?     I have no idea but I once went there with a headache.  oops....Dyslexic me that was the ER.  sorry.

RE is religious education, it's a lesson where they learn primarily about christianity but all other religions too. This is taught in every school here, state schools and church funded schools too. It's part of our National Curriculum which means schools can not opt out of teaching it, not that they would.. there would be rioting!

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash wednesday as Linda says, its the day you are supposed to go to confession to be "shriven" of forgiven of your sins.
Like one day would be enough for me?! SHEEEEEESH!

Thanks for the explaination on this one - I found myself quite lost on your lead-in post.

I've never watched or even attempted to follow a reality TV program and didn't connect  RE with Religious Education.

Be careful though because I've heard religious differences have led to wars.  ;)  [smiley=laugh.gif]

not to worry, Helen, I understood every word of your post.  I used to love Shrove Tuesday as a kid because that meant we got to eat pancakes.  For DINNER!!  Too cool.  That was a bonus of being protestant, we got all the perks of Shrove Tuesday, but didn't have to give up anything for Lent, like the catholics.  ;)

LMAO Margi.. have you ever seen Monty Pythons Meaning of Life film? The Catholic V Protestant sketch? You just reminded me of it and I'm sitting here giggling in a very filthy manner I can tell you!
I'm ready to go flipping mental in the nicest possible way as soon as the kids get home  ;;D

huge Monty fan here, Helen.  When we were kids, Monty Python's Flying Circus was on TV every Friday night at 11:30 - we were usually at someone's house partying.  The party would come to a standstill as we all gathered round to watch.  Love that humour!!

"Hullo?  I've come for your liver."
"But I'm not dead yet."
"Doesn't matter."

LOL I saw Meaning of Life, but I'm having a brain fart at the moment, don't remember that bit.  I'll have to go look it up.  I, uh, killed a lot of brain cells in the 70's and the memory's not so good anymore!  ;)
