Title: I’ve noticed something.
Post by mynm156 on Feb 20th, 2006, 1:28pm
Being chronic now for 2 years my usual is about three days a week with 3-6 hits a day.  However, for the last month I have been dealing with Kidney Stones and the pain involved in that.  I have noticed that I am not getting hit as much as I usually do.  I have noticed this in the past before also.  Don’t get me wrong I am thankful but have any of you had the same type of reprieve from your CH’s when you are dealing with some other sort of pain or medical problem?

PFDAY AHEAD FOR US ALL!

The day after my first cycle ended, I had shooting pain down my arm and had surgery to fix it.  The day after the post-surgical pain was gone, my next cycle began.

Could the pain have ended the first cycle?

That's all I got.

This wasn't so much to do with pain, but last week I was in the middle of  the flu from hell.  Very dehydrated, couldn't get out of bed except for the vomiting...  My parents had to pick me up here and take me to the doctor Thursday night because I couldn't even keep down any fluids.  My doc was rather concerned, but let me go home after a shot of phenergan and the promise (by my mom since I was half coherent lol) that I'd drink gatorade or at least eat popsicles.

I didn't have any CH attacks for about 4 days during the worst of it, and they started up again shortly after.  My migraine even was much less painful than it has been lately and has since risen back up to the same ole...

Wish I knew...  Maybe it's the stress theory - my body was extremely stressed...and that was enough stress to keep them at bay?  Not a good tradeoff though - flu vs. CH.....ehhhhh

Hope yer all feelin better guys......but Lizzie.......did you get a flu shot ? I figure you did workin at a hospital and all and probly mandatory ? Just curious if the flu shots are workin this season.....last year they had none cuz sumthin was wrong with the supply (exactly what WAS wrong anyhow with them ?)....and year before that we each got one but got sick anyhow cuz my doc said it didn't contain the correct virusus that ended up goin around. Since vaccines are bein LINKED to severe anemic disorders killin pets these days and overvaccinateing I jus wonder what it does to us ? Questionable
questions Pam

Brad's got some knee issues cuz of havein to crawl on cement to work under presses at work and a sore back goin on time to time and he SKIPPED anuther cycle. We are SO glad but not for the other irritations. (nothin real serious but it is givein him alot of grief and he has ALOT of stress at work rite now too.....lots and lots)

So many posts relate to other serious physical events ending cycles at least for a time. It must have something to do with necessity. One effen thing at at time and our body seems to know what is life-threatening? Beats me why it's allowed it to return.

Coots...

I actually didn't get a flu shot.  They do highly recommend it, but I just have this thing with the flu vaccine.  Kinda because I saw one of my best friends in college get the meningitis vaccine - and then GET meningitis...not once, but TWICE.  LOL

Plus I keep hearing of these strange bad reactions to the flu vaccine...and it makes me nervous.  Joe's aunt got a flu vaccine and she'd been sick with some sinus infection or something...and next thing you know, she has gotten a severe neurological disorder and will probably never walk again - this from an autoimmune reaction that may be related to the flu vaccine.

As a nurse -  I'm not going to discount the value of the flu vaccine...I know it's a necessity for many.  And especially for grandparents, small children, immune-compressed, etc....always better to be safe than sorry (with a doctor's recommendation as well, of course!)

But for myself...I just didn't want to risk it.  Not sure it would have prevented what I got as we're still not quite sure what chickens and eggs came first.  There's a lot of stuff that was going on at all about the same time.  I had some lab work done this morning which showed some anemia (low hemoglobin and hematocrit) and also pretty low potassium of just 2.9 (should be 3.5-5) - and I have a tendency to have these low potassium levels, but not THIS low...only had one lower before, and I was in the ICU at the time.

Wish there was just one magic thing to do or take and it would ALL be better...all of it!!

One can dream, right?  hehe :)

Banana's and baked potatoes Carrie, thats what you need! I suffer from very low potassium too and I have to tell you here and now it's the vilest stuff you'll ever have to chug down your neck!

LOL I actually can't eat bananas right now due to some other problems   ::)

We'll have to catch up even though we just talked recently!  Since I started the new med regimen and then ended up getting the flu and having to start all over with the new regimen once I could keep down my pills...it's been very whacky.  I think you may be a good one for advice about a couple things, though!!  IM me if you're on MSN at all. :)

I'll look to make a baked potato tonight or tomorrow and try that out.

Do you know what your low potassium is from?  One particular thing or just a nutritional-related thing?  I've had more K+riders than I'd ever like to remember but my levels seem to sit constantly on the low end.  I don't really want to take a supplement but would if I had to I guess!

Hugz,
Carrie :)

I suffer from malabsorption in general due to my bone disease. I'm currently having B12 injections every other day and they flippin hurt I'm telling you! I manage to find some quite obscure things to be deficient in from time to time as well (I've even been tested for coppoer deficiency...  ::) )
Given that you have bone problems too I would suggest a comprehensive blood test too if you haven't already had one.
Take care for now and yes, we have to have a good old natter again soon!

Well this morning I had triglycerides and cholesterol checked...though my neuro didn't order LDL, which is kind of surprising, since that's the worst culprit.  However, he may have his reasons as he is checking this to determine if it has played a factor in my avascular necrosis.  The results aren't back yet from that test - not sure if it takes longer to get results.

From the family doc, I also had drawn this morning a CBC, hepatic function, and basic metabolic panel.  She said we'll start with those.  The CBC showed a low H+H, but nothing too concerning...probably is indicative of my heart rate and fatigue, however!  The liver function was totally fine.  The BMP only had the low potassium and low BUN, which, in and of itself....really doesn't mean anything.  I've definitely had symptoms of the low potassium along with the anemia....and coupled with the nausea and vomiting - I can't be sure if the low potassium didn't bring on the vomiting or if the vomiting dropped the potassium down.

Did you ever have to drink those orange nutraphos shakes for low phosphorus?  At first, I didnt' think they were too bad.  Mixed them with orange soda to get a nice zing to it...but by day 4 or 5, I was dumping them out in the sink instead of drinking them.  Just couldn't stomach it!!!  I can't really get the electrolyte riders through peripheral IV without the central access - my veins suck too much anymore!   >:(  When I had the emergent surgery in April, the ENT decided to give a K+rider for a potassium of 3.4...I asked if I could just eat a banana or something!  It took over 5 hours to only get half the rider in because we had to run the rate so slowly...my arm was inflamed from the burning of it!  Same with the magnesium.

The things we have to go through, eh?   ::)

Makes the good days just that much gooder, however.   ;;D

Luvya,
Carrie :)

My chronic ch did skip a week twice when I had terrible flu. And when 2 of my 3 wisedom tooth was removed at once, pain from that operation and ch pain came together: when my mouth hurted, ch appeared too.
Unfourtunately, when my mouth was totally fine after six days, ch returned to normal everyday torture routine.

I probably should have asked if your CHA back off when your body is dealing with some other medical problem.  I too had the flu a few weeks agao and it was another reprieve from my clusters.  Interesting stuff.
