Title: I finally finished my 1st one!!
Post by Melissa on Feb 17th, 2006, 6:43pm
I got my 1st camo baby blanket finished and am now working on a lilac 100% baby alpaca baby blanket.

I will post pics tomorrow of the cam blanket after I have washed and dryed it.

Here's a peek at each side of the blanket.  It's done in a stockingette stitch, so it's textured on one side and smooth on the other...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/mfiltz/camoblanket.jpg

It's not finished yet, I still have to, like I said, wash & dry it.  I'll also iron it, and I have to weave in the loose ends.

:)

p.s. that's Lily's hands in the picture, hehe

Pretty cool Mel.

You'll have to have a little corner in the pizza shop and a catalog so you can take orders for your work. http://subscribe.smileygenerator.us/new/albums//multitasking.gif?SSImageQuality=Full

LOL!  I finished my 1st drink around 12:30pm this afternoon Elaine. :)  As for a baby going hunting?  Well, even though the blanket is warm, I wouldn't recommend it up here. ;;D

Have a good night sweets.

Mel your word would be multi-talented

Describe me in ONE WORD...just one word!
Send it to me only, then send this
message to your friends and see how many strange things people say about
you!
This could be fun! Just hit reply and send me my one word back.
Then forward this message on to your friends (including me) and see what they
say about you!

LMAO Tracey!  I have not sold it.  It took me 10 days to complete as I used too small a knitting needle on it and it will take some TLC to keep it in shape, SO, I have decided it will be a gift to someone. ;)  (I'm very anal about it being perfect before selling it!)

As for the lilac alpaca, I am working on it right now and it's looking BEAUTIFUL so far!  Here's a peek...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/mfiltz/alpacalilac.jpg

This one will be $45 (free shipping for U.S.), and in the future, the camo ones will be $35 (also free shipping for U.S.).  I won't know the approx. dimensions of it till I'm finished, as I eyeball everything like I do when I cook ;).

Oh, and Tracey, if after all that I've just told you, you still want some, let me know what color alpaca's you'd like and I'll purchase the yarn to make them.

THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE FOR THE COMPLIMENTS!!!

:)melly

updated to reflect price change of a $5 increase for camouflage baby blankets

Hell yes I want some.  My mom used to crochet all my baby blankets, but since she is gone, I would love to have someone I care about make them.....so much better than anything store bought.

I'll keep you busy with just my family and friends.  I'll also take the lilac one you are working on.

I admire your talent in knitting.....my talents run in different directions.... ;;D.

Be careful Mel.   Mastiff might ask you to donate it to the next raffle.

I wouldn't be surprised if you got enough orders   right here to pay off your mortgage, your car and a few other things.

You're doing great.

Know you've got your hands full right now, but I was thinking...maybe at some point if I were to purchase one, would you possibly be willing to also donate one for a lucky baby in the NICU?  I don't want you to lose money though, so I'd have to think on this....  just don't have extra funds right now...  But one of my BIGGEST pet peeves at work is when we have a sick baby that doesn't have its own blanket!!!  Happens more often than we'd like to think, too...   :(

But...if I bought one from you down the line, I'd be sure it went to one of them!!  :)

Great work!!

Carrie :)

Helen- 2

:Dmel

No rush for mine, Mel...  The babies aren't going anywhere...  Well, each baby does go somewhere - but new ones constantly come in to take their places!!  :)

I should get you the name of the type of yarn I was using for the baby hats I was working on.  It's very soft and quite pretty.  I'm sure it's a brand you'd be able to get if you wanted to add it to your repertoire. :)

Carrie :)

Jonny, no shit! ;;D  I had Jesse look at this thread last night and all he kept saying to me was "but it takes you so much TIME!!  How are you going to do all of those??  But all the TIME you put into it?!?" [smiley=laugh.gif]  I told him that ya'll know I only have 2 hands. ;)  Well, 2 puffy hands at the moment. :-/

Dragn, thanks very much dear! :)

Carrie, I do have some baby yarn that I'll use to make the blanket.  Don't worry, you'll have yours sooner than you think. ;)

Kevin, ROTFLMAO! [smiley=laugh.gif]

Hi Mel!

Hey, I was telling my sister about your camo blankets and you mentioned at one time about camo booties.

Her response was "HOLY CRAP they would sell like crazy around here! Is she going to have a website?"

Where we live, when the kids get walking, they have a toy rifle in hand and the dads usually take them "hunting" even as young as 2, 3 or 4. (its pretend, don't worry!) My little nephews LIVE in camo clothing, even pj's and undies!

I'd say you got a great idea worth pursuing chickie!!!

OMG, I am going to die!!! Hahahahah, not really, I'm just surprised at all the interest! ;)

I wish I had 8 hands in order to knit more than one thing at a time, LOL.

I was thinking that I would set something up eventually on the net for people to purchase stuff, but now that everyone here has me busy for the next year, LOL, it'll have to wait.  See, I wanted to knit things and build up and inventory before selling them.  That way I'd always have something "in stock" to sell.  Kinda hard to do that right now. :-/

BTW, I don't know how to do booties yet, just blankets & hats!  I'm sure sometime this summer I'll figure out how to do them tho.

Isn't there some kind of knitting machine thingy you could use for regular inventory, and hand-made for special orders?

Well, there is, but it sort of defeats the purpose of it being hand made. ;)

Not only that, I am able to change the needle size and check the gage, but with that machine thing, you get one size knit, all the time.  I've seen some of the stuff that comes off of there, and although it makes a perfect knit, it can't do a knit 1 purl 2 quite like I can. hehe

It's ok, I taught myself to knit to help with my anxiety, and it's something I love.  At the longest, it takes me 1 week to knit a baby blanket, so really, it isn't all that bad. :)

TY for the input Jennifer, I just love hearing it! ;;D

Nice, real nice. >:(

I had dropped a stitch while knitting, and screwed it up when I tried to fix it, so I had to unravel about 4 rows and then string them back on the needle.  Well, when I was done (took me all of 5 minutes), I came back to the puter to see that I was knocked offline.  Something was not right...  My mommy's sense was tingling, so I decided to see what my adorable angel Eli was up to. (HA!) ::)

He had gotten into his sisters nail polish, which I have told her a 100 times to put it where he can't reach it, and had "painted" his toenails, bedspread and carpet in his room.

CALGON, TAKE ME AWAY!!!!

Since I'm already monopolizing my own thread, I figured I'd post this here.

The baby alpaca yarn is getting harder for me to find, but the adult alpaca yarn can be found fairly easily in many colors.   The only difference between the two, is in softness.  The adult alpaca is a shade or 2 coarser than the baby alpaca, but is still quite soft and much much warmer and lighter than the baby acrylic yarns.

Just wanted to let you all know before you decide to buy!

Thanks,
:)mel

Now don't wear out yer hands on our account!  I know about such things - I think in a 12 hour shift, I wash my hands at least 40 times.  When doing care for one infant, in a 20 minute time frame, I still have to wash my hands before I touch them, after I change the diaper, perhaps again if need be for various reasons, and then after I do their care.  My hands are raw, cracked, and very sore!!

I use the Neutrogena Norwegian Hand creme most of the time although at times I've been known to go so far as putting A&D or neosporin on them to calm the burning!  haha  The Neutrogena stuff seems to help as it doesn't wash off and provides more of a protective barrier.  :)

Very very excited for the blanket!!!  It will be somebody's new treasure on a bath/weight night which are Sunday, Tuesdays, and Thursdays!  ;)

Hugz,
Carrie :)

Forget about what I said about the baby alpaca yarn.  I have found a supplier for the yarn and will be hand dying it myself. ;;D

I am so psyched!!!

Wooohoooo!!!
