Hoping this is another hyped up media event.
I'll bet my money on the latest "ClarkCast:"

I'd say any snow they are getting right now is going to taper off over the next couple hours. Then it will pick up again tomorrow afternoon by 4pm and dump another 1-3 inches by sunday morning.

That's more like it.

I love watching New York City blizzards. I get something called NY 1 now on my cable system so I'll get to watch the garbage trucks. One thing I will say, New Yorkers do pretty well.

It would have been interesting to see how they would have handled something like Katrina. New Yorkers really know how to "give em' hell."

One thing I will say, New Yorkers do pretty well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Always do dude!!! NY1 is a news channel only for NYC...The streets in New York are usually handled immediately by the Sanitation Crew. Mike Bloomberg is a good man, a very good mayor, and he makes sure that his departments are on top of the storms. The winter has been pretty mild and strange in the temperature range. We all knew that this was a possibility, but last weekend the temps were in the 50's.

BLIZZARD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING... A BLIZZARD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING. SNOW WILL BEGIN BY EARLY SATURDAY EVENING...AND BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES SATURDAY NIGHT. NORTHEAST WINDS WILL ALSO INCREASE SATURDAY NIGHT TO 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH...POTENTIALLY CAUSING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ALONG WITH CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW...MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT SATURDAY NIGHT...AND ESPECIALLY SUNDAY MORNING. BY THE TIME THE SNOW ENDS SUNDAY AFTERNOON...ACCUMULATIONS SHOULD AVERAGE 6 TO 12 INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. A BLIZZARD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FALLING AND OR BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND EXTREMELY POOR VISIBILITIES. THIS CAN LEAD

I just read this thread and have to ask about a couple words used. Blizzard? Snow?
I Goggled 'blizzard' and got a picture of New York.
I Googled 'snow' and got a picture of Boston.

Are those geography words?

Just to check my geography I Goggled 'Las Vegas' and got "Sunshine and 80 degrees"

I'm really confused.

Jonny....There is no way these guys will change their minds on going to NYC.  They've had this gig booked for quite a while and they are determined to get there.

For anyone crazy enough to venture out tonight in NY, the name of the band is Peace With Doubt.  They will be going on stage at midnight at Blaggard's Pub, 8th W. 38th Street.  If you get there, look out for my friends and try to make sure they stay safe.  We all know musicians can be a bit crazy  ;;D

Thanks for the concern.

They might want to look up some places to stay---only problem is ALL the hotels are very expensive...I wish them luck !!!

Good to know that the place will be crowded, storm or no storm.  Rod and the other guys in the band have worked so hard planning and practicing for a long time.  I just want them to have a great but safe night.....damn, I sound like a Mother Hen don't I?  I just hope they can find somewhere to hunker down for the night if needed, get home safely the next day and then when I'm sure they are back home safe and sound, I'm gonna smack the poop out of them for making all of us worry about them.  [smiley=laugh.gif]

Hasn't started snowing in Philadelphia yet, but I'm SOOOOOOOooooooo excited!!!!  I have off today and tomorrow....Monday I have to go to an appt with one of my orthopedics to go over a bone scan at 10:15am, but then I don't work until 11pm.

Worst part for me?

On street parking!!!  I'm parked where I'm allowed to be in a snow storm, but the plows will probably bury my car.  I'm pretty short - it's not fun digging that baby out!!!  But it's $65/month to put the car in the underground garage.

After 5 years of living in State College, I got tired of digging my car out of snow up to the trunk!!!  haha

Still.....I don't have to go anywhere so I can't WAIT!!!!  Prolly should go get a little food though before this hits.

Snow angel day, baby!!!!  :)

Light snow here now.  My boyfriend called his family and they said they wanted him to come home.  Was looking forward to spending the weekend together and especially during a snow storm, but he decided to leave instead.

Snow's not looking like so much fun anymore because now I'm upset...  :'(

Ah well...  my dad's gonna come over tomorrow night and help me dig out my car.  He was going to come pick me up and take me to my parents' house for the rest of the weekend, but I have stuff that needs to get done here anyways...

Jamestown is about 75 miles to the south and gets as much and sometimes more than Buffalo. The funny thing is that we have plows as big and many bigger. The streets almost never close here. Did in 1936 though. Unreal pictures.

Post by Mr. Happy on Feb 11th, 2006, 8:08pm
Continuous storm Update:

Casualties begin to mount. A News 3 van, en route to check possible wet and slippery conditions on the Walt Witman Bridge, apparently was going too fast on the entrance ramp. The van hit a barricade, and exploded on impact. The driver, reporter, and cameraman were reported dead on impact. Everyone at channel 3 harmoniously regrets the unfortunate demise of their news comrades in pursuit of communal safety.

Stay tuned for updates. Don't miss a moment (including commercials) of our weather media event of the year.

While mourning the loss of our comrades in arms, News 3 has just received the following update. Personnel from our fellow Philadelphia news stations, channels 6 and 10, approaching the scene of the News 3 accident site, suffered a head on collision due to the increasingly wet, slippery, and potentially snow covered streets. Four casualties, and two in critical condition. All civilians are requested to stay in their homes, until further assessment of the potential of this increasingly deadly storm can be made.

Yeah...you heard that alright!!  He had gotten up before me and gotten a shower.  I was sitting on my bed watching some tv when he called his family to ask how the situation looked over there.  No snow had started falling yet, and all the sudden he comes in and tells me, "This storm is going to be bad.  They want me home, so I'm gonna get going."  I was really upset because he up and left on me very quickly last Saturday...only that reason was "to let me get some sleep."

So I'd been crying and asked him if he left because of the snow for real or because he was using any excuse to get out of here quickly.  He said it really was because he didn't want to get stuck here in the snow and then have the possibility of not being able to make it into the doctor's office Monday morning.

I was still upset and then had to rationalize that this would be typical of a girl's reaction in a fairly new relationship.  I'd been excited about the snowstorm for a few days before it because I knew Joe was coming over for the weekend.  It's fun to get snowed in with someone you care a lot about!  I was looking forward to taking a walk outside to get something to eat or even go to the movies (I live in a very small town), and even digging the cars out together would have been fun!  Snowball fights and snowman building.  And of course we would have gotten the car dug out tomorrow (well, today now...Sunday) so he could make it to work fine on Monday.

He didn't see it that way.  And because I was upset about that, chose to retaliate and list about 10 things he was suddenly upset about that I had done.  This was tonight.  So then I was a wreck because on the other side I had my mom telling me not to screw this one up because it's not like people are always ready and willing to deal with all the health stuff I have goin on....  nice, huh?  Support system flies out the window again.

Seems we've resolved the fight now (Joe and I), but gonna take some time for things to get back to normal.  We don't have much time to spend with each other, and Monday night starts 2 weeks of nights for me - next weekend is my weekend to work so I won't be able to spend time with him then.  I hate that whatever small amounts of time we have to spend together, he keeps runnin out on for some excuse or another.  But he still claims the storm is the only reason he left today - not the other stuff.  <sigh>

So now I'm lying in my bed with the laptop nearby.  I'm watching the snow out the window, which is very pretty.  And hugging my teddy bear for comfort!  Dumb boys some days....!

Hugz,
Lizzie :)

In the morning, I'm going to get the new batteries into the digital camera and try to take some pics while it still looks pretty.  :)

Daddy's coming over either later today or Monday morning to help me dig the car out of the snow...not just the snow that fell, but also the snow the trucks have by now certainly plowed on top of my car.  haha  But I was parked on an acceptable street during snow emergency, so that's good at least!!

Wish I could give you all a snowfall amount but I can't because of all of the drifting.  Had to body slam the front door open to get around back to the back door to shovel the snow away so I could let the dogs outside.  The Doberman (high clearance) loved it but the Miniature Dachshund (low clearance) wasn't too happy about her belly landing in the snow.  I heard a loud scream as she flew up the steps to come back in the house.

All of the windows in the house are covered with snow due to the wind gusts and last I heard, the snow is supposed to be coming down at about 3"- 4" an hour.  Woo Hoo!!  Lovin' it!!

Looks like we've got about 2 feet or so here, and it's still coming down.  I took some pics out my windows, so they're going to be a little blurry with the screens, but I'm not able to go outside in this at the moment!!  haha

I'm enjoying watching the people on the street that backs up to my apartment complex all digging out the street and their cars.  And I just heard a plow go by.

It's really so beautiful just after it snows!!  Not sure how cold it is here, but the wind is still howling.  The snow is much lighter, but still coming down a good amount.  Not sure if my dad is coming today or tomorrow to help me dig out the car since I'm not supposed to do that kind of stuff now!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!   ;;D

The Clark Forecast of 5-7 inches is ridiculous...Total Nonsense----Already in New Rochelle, New York --at 8:45 am---14 inches and it is a total white out..Can't see a damn thing. This morning in NYC the cabs were all over the road---bald tires---never saw middle easterners sweat so much !!!!!!!!!

Tell me, how close is Rochelle NY to Media PA??  The ClarkCast is specifically for MEDIA PA, what part of that didn't you understand?

Clark is a 22year air force meteorologist, they are trained to forecast for a 5 mile radius and they do not give area of affect forecasts for the very reason that every location has completely different weather set ups and generalized forecasts are almost never accurate for all locations.  Randy received a forecast for his house, in MEDIA PA and more specifically for the MEADOWS, the neighbourhood Randy lives in.

Randy,

So how much did you end up getting over there?  Looks from the maps like the 5-7" for Media was probably pretty close to right on as I know the storm dumped a lot less in areas even very close to here...just the nature of how it ran its course.

Still snowing here!!  Although, just very lightly at this time!!  It's such a beautiful day for hot chocolate and movies/olympic watching.  Plus my little kitty (Tony, aka Spawn of Satan) is curled up next to me sleeping on my bed.

This is the stuff that makes life great...the little things. :)

They're still trying to dig out the street out back here!  I'll post the pics later. :)

Lizzie2 :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Checked with NOAA--Media is getting 12---to---18 inches of snow. Guess Clark was wrong. While NEW Rochelle , New York is not near Media Pa. --I know where Media Pa. is, and after reading someone say 5--to--7 inches---I knew that it was impossible. Clark  needs an updating.

It's been a cold but beautiful day here in this end of the state which is more than 300 miles away. Last time I looked, NYC had about 15 inches.

Worth your time listening to New Yawkers interviewed in hardware stores. http://subscribe.smileygenerator.us/all/albums/hats/cold.gif

I got a LOT. After that, I had to boot up and go move all this FUCKING SNOW out of the driveway. Who know's or cares what the recorded tally was.......the shit was four feet deep on my driveway due to the lay of the land and wind shear. Only took 4 hours to clear a 60 foot driveway, thanks to the fucking NEWSPAPER the Boss Hawg Blower tried to eat 30 minutes in....... Sure pity you bastids in NY/Boston. Sounds pretty healthy up your way. Mostly cleaned up around here, but the future ex's school district is opening two hours late on Monday.

Reckon I'll be getting a LOT in the morning. Again.

I don't know how people blow snow with those toys.

Sorry no closeups.

1967 Gravely 7.6 Convertable with 28" two stage blower. We call this the snow cannon. I can't imagine how far the newer 16hp machines blow.

In NYC especially on the docks they use fleets of Gravely walk behinds to clear snow usually with power brooms. You can usually see them on the news when they get a big storm. They finally stopped making them in 2002, good run that started in 1937. Check the papers, I bet they are starting to get sold because they aren't made anymore. If you can get a 50" mower too, you summer work will be a snap also. These are not snow blowers but tractors that are able to use a number of attachments. I wouldn't get an old one like mine unless you are good with fixing machinery. It is kind of cool using something that is as old as I am.

Our morning news just showed pics of NYC. The weatherman promised MORE snow back here, too. I hope not, I think that we have enough already.
