Title: KOP ????
Post by cootie on Feb 6th, 2006, 11:00pm
Anyone heard how his dogs are doing that were sick ? I dunno if he gets on here much but wanted to tell him that my momma 'to be' dashy due around Valentines day died today of the very same thing....some sort of ememia......she had 3 or 4 pups inside her and I seen there little heartbeats today doing an ultra sound. I am freaked....this is so sad !!  Too early to save the pups.......not even got the blood tests results back yet but her blood was like water. I've been tryin to help her the past few days once I realized her misery was more then her normal with the pregnancy ordeal. I was goin to retire her after this litter......wanted to keep a female. The vets secretary/assistants young dog died last nite of the same thing. Other friends dog was about an hour from dieing of sum sort of ememia but they managed to save her. She'd just had pups. I'm just rambling and wondering. Did alot too late Pam  :'( :'( :'(

Pam, I'm so sorry.

You don't by any chance use Diamond Dog food do you?  Because there is a massive recall.  Something in the food is killing dogs all around the country.

Your mention of so many dogs dying just brought that to mind.

:'(

so sorry, Pam.  Losing the mum is hard enough, but the pups too?  There just aren't words to encompass the grief that must be going through you right now.

Hang in there, gal - everything happens for a reason.  Sometimes it's just really hard to understand.

hugs,
Margi

I'm beatin myself up over all this.......esp after seein them teeny LIVE pups on the ultra sound screen with hearts glowing and beating and them jumping around. Cutest thing I ever saw. I never ever expected the momma would die....I knew the pups were at risk and whatever happen'd to her took a quick turn in a matter of hours tho......the stress of the vet visit progressed it before I really knew what it was. Sum form of anemia and I will call the vet in a day or so cuz I jus could NOT discuss it today and not loose it. Now everytime a cat or dog sneezes I am gettin paranoid. My one exotic cat had a bout with sumthin similar this fall.......the shot worked for him and am so scared he will go backwards again. See what I mean ? I fall to pieces Pam

Will let ya's know what the vet thinks caused this mess....but with alot of cases they 'don't know' !!! SCAREY !! (lots of talk about vaccines causeing it and the long term heartguard shots.....but they usually get sick within a month tho and wasn't the case with my dog.)  :-/ :'(

Thanks guys......and thanks so much for the 'specially' CAREING minnie !! I really do appreciate it......I really really do ! I've not talked to the vet yet (he's a freind....the entire family is so I imagine they know WHY I haven't called yet cuz they know how I am , I get a bit too emotional and blame myself for things). Soon as I start to talk about it I fall apart BAD cuz it was such a sad thing and special dog so am tryin to get myself together first so I can carry on an intellegent conversation. He may not know WHAT caused this......scarey thought !There's still alot of 'what if's' goin on in my head. This doggy was jumpin for jelly bean treats the other day.......never occured to me she was deathly ill till I got her home from the vets and she 'DID' turn bad SOON as I got her home in her pen.....guess that's how this shit works.....stress turned it to an entirely new level from maintaining to dieing with the worst symtoms showing withing 12 hours starting suddenly. I dunno if this would of all still happen'd as it did if I'd gotten her in a day or two earlier or not but she didn't seem ILL before just her normal pregnant misery but a bit more so this time and sumtimes bigger litters will do that. And bein her last litter and goin on the retirement list was goin to be FUN......she was only 6 years old. I don't breed dogs that don't do well and even used my new male with smaller dog background and was goin to be his first litter for me. An all new era stopped before it started Pam

Not heard from KOP but I did PM him in case he checks in and doesn't see this thread. All the other dogs are ok and all eat the same food.....Iam's. But there's no tellin what other brands could of been affected that bought the infected corn from the same mills Diamond used. Diamond dog food co got a bad rap actually.....but guess they need to test for this fungus from now on before useing the corn for fillers. Corn is notorious for fungus anyhow. Lessons are sumtimes learned at the expense of others.  :'(

Edit cuz my spelling will always suck..............

Pam,

I'm so very sorry to hear about your dog and the pups...   :'(  I'm sorry I didn't post to this sooner and offer my support to you.  Heart is breaking for you just imagining what you have to go through with this.

Joe (my boyfriend) said something to me r ecently about a certain kind of dog treat being connected to dogs dying, but I can't remember the name of it.  I'll have to ask him tomorrow.  It's still on the market, yet I believe it's known that it has done a lot of harm to poor animals...  Wrong, if you ask me!

I know how much you love and care for your animals.  Losing an animal is like losing a best friend.  Such horrible pain.... :'(

Much love and hugs from me,
Lizzie2/Carrie

Again......'thanks guys'......and fineally got on here to find this thread and wanted to thank KOP again and also mention how LUCKY he is his dog is ok.......my friends dog pulled thru also but was young so that may of helped.....once I found out mine was anemic she was gone within the day and no real reason as of yet. I have several dogs......others are ok. She ate real good the nite before (can'd food mixed with dry I made for her).....guess this is sumthin showin up alot now days with dogs and gettin to be a real big concern WHY. (over vaccinateing is one theory or too early and few others regaurding a long term heartworm shot) Keen eye on the canine Pam
