Title: Warning Lights
Post by PL259 on Feb 3rd, 2006, 6:34pm
Pay attention to them. Red, Blue, Yellow. They are there for a reason! They are not there to mark a target!  :-[
As a volunteer fireman in a rural area we call in hazards. This afternoon I left my shop to run to the store, cold, (for here) raining, on a 2 lane road with non-existant shoulders. I topped a small hill and there was a large pine tree in the road blocking the north bound lane. I pulled into a drive just past the tree facing the blocked lane, turned on my nice little set of Whelen Talon led's. Bright red lights. I called the sheriffs dept on the radio and they dispatched DOTD to come handle it. Guess I should have left and let folks deal with it on their own I admit my truck does not look like a cop, but jeez red lights outta at least make you want to look and see if something is up. Most people did well. The wench in the SUV on the cell phone almost gave me a heart attack. 60 miles an hour, rain, poor road, she never slowed down. She whipped into the oncoming traffic lane. She almost did a head on with a little blue car with a family in it. She almost hooked the right side of the Yukon on the end of the pine tree. Good thing I ain't a cop, or I would have written that (dirty word) every ticket  I could have!
I had thought about running back to the shop and getting my chainsaw and trying to clear the tree. Took me about 2 minutes to forget that!
Be careful people, I don't want to be the one to cut you out of the twisted metal.

nuff said.
