So let's say it happened to me, a long time member on this board, by a guy thet thiks he is the king. And had the nerve to call me a troll at the same time.

Hmmm ...
That does remind me ... there have been people (or someone) sending women here what appear to be like "personal ads" that are unwanted.
So ... I guess trolls and pervs should be exposed (pun not intended!).
But not in-fights, slander or some of that type of crap.
I think we can block specific senders though right?

All's fair in love and war.

A few choices:
Answer his PM's with your PM's, keeping it private.
Ignore his PM's.
Answer his PM's publicly without posting the PM.
Answer his PM's publicly by posting the PM's.
Remain silent.

The choice you make will determine who is the better man. The gentleman.

Pm's are blocked, both directions. No E mail possible. [smiley=huh.gif]

I would never post a PM for any reason, just me

Wish I could say yes to that Lee, but unforntunately physically I'm getting worse, but my attitude is up.
I've been posting more often again to try to get myself back in shape just to be able to write. Joined the OUCH Grants Committee and I know I'll need to be able to write a lot and make some good sense of it.
Haven't ruled out your prospect in Oklahoma, still researching and timing is a concern for now.
Thanks,

PM are PMs, so I'd keep them private. But naturally if someone would send me horrible PMs with insults and things like that  without legimate reasons I probably would mention it to that person directly and if it continued I'd mention it broadly here at general board. But, naturally, my actions have not been tested on the matter and hopefully never will.

But instead I must say that the people who have sent me PMs in the past have sent wonderful PMs, many of them I've kept. I actually re-read many of them last night and that support which those PMs show is absolutely fantastic! :)

Wossup, Lee?  Starting to regret some of the bile and vitriol you've vomitted into the occasional PM and worried someone might now publish it openly?

I just looked back at the post you referred to (Bushisms 2, page 2) and you replied to it so pleasantly at the time.  What's changed since then?

Not that you need worry I'll publicly display the messages you sent me after I simply tried to help you out  (talk like that has no place in an open forum)  but I do thank you for the best laugh I've had today -

When I get hate PMs I will answer saying that it is not welcome and I will post publicly if they do it again. It it comes to that I would do it. That was before PM blocking which I have not tried.

My blocking doesn't seem to work. If the PMs got annoying enough I would first contact the webmaster with my concerns but public posting wouldn't be off the table either.

If someone has chosen to send me a PM to simply be ruder or nastier than they feel comfortable portraying themselves on the public board I'd post it publicly without a shred of guilt.

I believe there is a tendency to hide behind PM's as a method of subtle (or not so subtle, I guess) intimidation. Do that and someone should expect to be outed as a bully or ass.

As for true personal PM's that are related to private matters, no way. "What happens in PMegas stays in PMegas."

Lee,

Have you ever tried to teach a pig to sing?  It's not very fulfilling.  All it does is frustrate you and irritate the pig.

You need to chill out, or the 'troll' moniker is going to start to stick.

Seriously, try taking a few deep breathes and move on.

And for the record... Yes, there are cases where I would post a PM.  If someone is PM'ing me, they either know me well enough to trust that I wouldn't post their stuff, or they don't know me well and are simply trying to privately behave like an ass.  In the later case, I wouldn't have any problems showing people the kind of crap that was sent to me.  I suspect you (in someones eyes) must have fell into that later category, but I cannot speak for that person.  In either case, it's not like PM is some sort of implied contract to keep the communication private.  It merely means that you're sending it to one person and not everyone.  What the recipient chooses to do with it is purely up to them and not dictated anywhere.

My answer to the original question is nope/never regardless of the way I felt about the person.

However I would feel differently if someone sent me kiddie porn or something more repulsive than that if there is such a thing. To be honest in a case like that I would probably demand DJ to give it to the authorities, but I'm sure he would do it anyways. I'm no rat, but I do have my moral limitations.

The fact that it is a 'private' message means only that it is not automatically publicly posted in a thread by the BBS software.  Email, mail, and phone calls are all equally private (or equally not private) as 'private' messages.

If someone is sharing personal information or extending themselves in confidence, etiquette says don't blab.  But if someone sends a harrassing or rude pm or email, they pretty much kiss off any expectation of privacy.

It seems if you sent a private message that was threatening/slanderous in nature, you shouldn't expect it to stay private. What you say will usually come back to bite you, wether it's a PM, or in the open. Think before you speak is all I can sugggest.

You love kicking up this shit storm, you alternate between playing grand inquisitor and a bloody victim and you don't do either well.
If you want some attention try getting a personality first, it works for most people.
Meanwhile if you REALLY want to persist with all of this maybe we could all chip in a few pence to set up a new area on the board just for you. "whiner's who need to get a life"

Sounds to me like someone has a headache and let their fingers get out of hand.

Now me, I've been on this MB probably longer than most of you and I've seen this happen too many times. someone says something and someone else takes it to mean something else and the war starts..... In the end no one wins and someone gets his/her feelings hurt.

We forget we're here for support NOT to hurt each other. Take things with a grain of salt and let insults go. They really don't mean anything and will come out in the wash.

Arguing politics is "fun" - running down each other is "not". We're all a good bunch of people - we're just different and we're all hurting, but we don't have to hurt each other in the process.

That's my opinion for what it's worth...

I kinda wondered what this was about apparently I missed something but as you all know eventually I gotta pipe in. I really dont understand why there is such a blowup over posting a threat made even in a PM. I kinda thought this was a place to discuss even differing opinions. There are a few poeple here I dont agree with and that dont agree with me. I honestly dont think that has caused them to hate me or for me to hate them. We just simply agree to disagree, no real threats just differing opinions. I may draw fire but couldnt give a flying squirles wet fart! As far as threats to people I care for  ie Jonny or all the CHenz, and several others they know who they are is probably a bad thang. Trying to correct my spelling is like farting into a fan. Trying to correct my grammer is kinda like making love to an armadillo. I always welcome a good verbal smack down because its hard to get my goat cause I usually get it first. I understand there are things out of my control and things that I can control if they go bad or wrong I blame me not others for what I should have done better. When I poke at people I expect no hope to get poked back. If I state something as fact I usually back it with proof not with I've heard or so and so said so, so it must be true. I also have a real problem with lemmings I like to think and do for myself, I also know when and where to pick my battles and when and where to STFU! If I fell I may have to harsh to someone I will PM them to explain and ask them to play along because it turns into alot of fun. Ask around and you will realize most said here is in the spirit of helping each other not harming each other. Ask DJ I am almost 100% sure he will agree that is the reason he opened this forum, and keeps it open. We are a support group not a pack of rabid dogs trying to draw blood from each other! Well I guess Ive said enough but If you want me to continue the rand state so and I will once I have the time to.

Mike

ok then, here it is.

jonny is a little crazy and you are a little vindictive.

satisfied? I doubt it.  I think what lee want's is to make people not like jonny, that's not gonna happen and it's just making people not like you.  give it a rest.

Quote from Jonny:

Quote:
What is a Troll?
An Internet "troll" is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet. He (and it is usually he) tries to start arguments and upset people.
Trolls see Internet communications services as convenient venues for their bizarre game. For some reason, they don't "get" that they are hurting real people. To them, other Internet users are not quite human but are a kind of digital abstraction. As a result, they feel no sorrow whatsoever for the pain they inflict. Indeed, the greater the suffering they cause, the greater their 'achievement' (as they see it). At the moment, the relative anonymity of the net allows trolls to flourish.
Trolls are utterly impervious to criticism (constructive or otherwise). You cannot negotiate with them; you cannot cause them to feel shame or compassion; you cannot reason with them. They cannot be made to feel remorse. For some reason, trolls do not feel they are bound by the rules of courtesy or social responsibility.
Perhaps this sounds inconceivable. You may think, "Surely there is something I can write that will change them." But a true troll can not be changed by mere words.
Or Maybe im wrong....Doubt it!!

Friends or not jonny ... this is your own statement. After many years of reading your posts and self proclaiming yourself "The King" it would seem to me you are actually declaring yourself to actually being the "King of Trolls!".
Just going by your quote as to what a "troll" is.

jonny ...
You've helped many.
You've attacked many.
You've made good posts.
You've made bad posts.

Lee made two posts on the same subject! Oh my God! Unforgiveable! Think of the hundreds of posts you've made interrupting other peoples posts with only self serving purposes. How many pics do we need to see of you? How often do we need to hear about your "manhood."? How many Migrainers did you curse because they came to the wrong board? How much crap posts have you put up?
If you follow your description of a troll ... yes ... you are the "king" but the "King of Trolls," by your own standards.
Anyone who stands up to this "King" is going to get blasted, and he is good at finding quotes to post, but they are selective, usually out of context, and partial. We're supposed to believe everything the "King" says, God forbid we don't. Only his attacks are taken with jest or allowance ... but don't dare offend him back!
Just my opinion folks ... I can't believe I'd be the only one to see this over the years!
Yes ... I like jonny ... but that's beside the point, he's not my "King" and he can be wrong now and then, can't be that hard to accept. Can you accept it yourself jonny?
Everyone here deserves to be heard, we don't need a monitor to tell us what we can say or not and then go as far as to turn people against someone who does not agree with you. Sorry ... no "Kings" here, just fellow sufferers and supporters with opinions ... and it's okay to disagree ... but not play Judge and King to try to destroy someone, there is something as simple as just simply disagreeing and leaving it at that.
Now ... am I wrong?
Post and let post!
Dave
(True Trolls should be exposed, but if you think Lee is a troll ... question has to be how and why? Ridiculous!)
Peace?

"THIS" is exactly what a troll does.........churns up shit so everyone starts to turn on each other and take sides. One very inoscent and one very guilty approach. Ech.....as far as a 'king' is concern'd every pack has a pecking order and it's not unatural for challenges to come up. After all....is Bush really "your" president Pam

It's all the same in the end................................

These come to me weekly or bi-weekly jonny, I never knew of any such rule that you are puking about. I would suspect that only Republicans have pitched such a fit over this, get real, Bush screws up like every president has. Take your fucking board and stick it.
