Thanks for the post, Sanna.  I missed the announcements this time around, and I'm usually interested in this.  I've seen only a couple of the nominees, so its time for me to get back into the theaters. ;;D  (I can vouch for "Good Night and Good Luck", "Syriana", and "A History of Violence"...great movies!

You're welcome, Pat. :)

I'm going to see Walk the Line this weekend (it opens here on Friday). Brokeback Mountain opened last week and I'm going to see that one soon, too. :)

I've seen Pride & Prejudice. Mum was so sure already then then Keira Knightley will be nominated. She's happy now! ;;D

I hope it will. With 8 nominations, it has a good chance. But I can't predict here and now that which one it would get, though.

I saw "CRASH" on the list for those of you who have not seen this movie, it is great and very under rated! Take the time to rent and watch it.
As far as BrokeBack Mountain..they were drunk and that changes everything. [smiley=cowboy.gif] [smiley=moonwiggle.gif][smiley=hurl.gif] [smiley=crackup.gif]

I hope Brokeback Mountain and Transamerica win every award the are nominated for. I haven't seen either, and probably won't, I'm not much of a go-to-the-movies guy.

But, if they were to win it would STFU all those self appointed, righteous, holier-than-thou, bible thumping A**Hole homophobes that think we all need to be saved.

As much as your rationale seems to be half the reason they are promoting these films so heavily, it hardly seems to be sound enough rationale to just give them the award.

I haven't seen Transamerica but have seen Brokeback, and yes it was a beautiful film, but being a "go to the movies" kind of guy, there were many that were better. Including some of the other nominees. Good Night and Good Luck, also a real attention getter for the left was far better. Capote, also another film with a strong undercurrent that the left will love, was also a great great film. I would guess that those on the right would have been able to even consider pulling for would have been Narnia, if it had been nominated.

oh well.

You wouldn't be suggesting that it was Brokeback Mountain was nominated to be POLITICLLY CORRECT? That is unjust and Un-American.

Ahhhh!  The movies.  Hubby and I, being "not much of go to the movies type of guy and gal", just wait until the movie comes out on our satellite pay-per-view.  Then we log on, pop the pop corn, get out the beer, lay back on our respective recliner or couch, and enjoy.  I, personally, will watch  comedies, adventures, musicals, animated (my fav is Finding Nemo).  I've gotten to the point in my life where life is too short to be depressed.  And spending a small fortune on movie tickets, popcorn and a soda (no beer) is extremely depressing to me.   ;)

So, I won't be watching the ceremony, but will read up on who won, etc.  But, will still opt for my couch, beer, popcorn, and happy endings.

Daughter and I saw Walk the Line and the movie was phenomenal (daughter learned a whole new appreciation for The Man In Black's music and her music too).  This is one film where the lead actors actually sang the music and also learned to play the instruments a little.

We also saw Memoirs of A Geisha, which *I* didn't enjoy as much because daugher was giving running critique of *what* was wrong (she's studying Japanese and oriental culture).

You know Sandy, I love to watch comedies as well. My reason: I want to laugh, life is sad enough sometimes. I do enjoy occasional dramas, but I won't go see something just because it's been heavily promoted/popular. Good actors, interesting story and great trailers matter more.

To be honest, after doing essay about Oscars as a media event, I've loved the show so much that I'm going to watch it every year without caring the slightest who will host, present, are nominated, will perform. I just love the whole thing. ;;D
