Title: F/U with Hand Surgeon :) Post by Lizzie2 on Jan 30th, 2006, 11:54am Well it wasn't as terrible as I thought it might be!! Looks like there could be a tear of the ligaments connecting to the ulnar styloid. At first, my options were to get a cortisone shot and see how that went or to do arthroscopic surgery to look at the tear, repair if it's there, and then cast for a month. Obviously I would have chosen the cortisone shot. He then did an x-ray, however. There's an area at the end of the ulnar styloid (pointy thing coming off the elbow side bone at the wrist...haha) that looks like there could possibly be a bone cyst. So no cortisone shot because that could skew the results of the bone scan I now have to get. So....bone scan on Friday and then we'll see. The doc was nice, and hopefully this will bring good news so that it doesn't interfere with work or piano for me! We'll see as time goes on. :) Carrie :) |

Title: Re: F/U with Hand Surgeon :) Post by cootie on Jan 30th, 2006, 12:31pm I had a small cyst removed from my hand years ago.......dam that was painful but no problems once gone cept for 'tightness' stretching out my hand for a while. Guess they had to remove a bit of tendon also. It'd flare up and cause my hand to freeze up like a fist......racein horses agravated it. But it'd let up for a bit and I'd always hope it'd go away !! Surgery took close to an hour just for that!! And it was before orthoscoptic stuff. It was on my palm on the pointing finger base joint. Got a little piece of led in there too still from high school days you can see they FORGOT to get out while in there. Broke the end of a pencil off and it went inside my hand. Led bodied Pam |

Title: Re: F/U with Hand Surgeon :) Post by Lizzie2 on Jan 31st, 2006, 10:30am Thanks for the replies :) Vig...I *tried* to cut back on boxing, but....why waste good talent? ;) [smiley=laugh.gif] Lizzie...Thanks - I agree it's time for things to start going right - same for you too.... We share more than just our name. ;) :-* Actually had a GOOD night at work last night...had 2 infants, was not assigned to be first admit nurse or second or third admit...since both my patients were on ventilators and one had a few other interesting things going on. I wasn't given a chart to audit. I wasn't given babies in severe drug withdrawal. And both kids actually were pretty well "behaved" (if you can call it that!).... Since I haven't had a night like that like...ever... I was happy. :) Beast even stayed well enough away (thanks to Frova). I had my first physical therapy appt this morning for the back injury/pain. There appears to be some nerve involvement/irritation as the pain radiates down my leg and is exaggerated by a lot of things. The PT said my posture is skewed to the left probably from trying to keep weight off my right knee. All the way up through my right shoulder is higher than my left shoulder. Odd. haha The MRI didn't show any disc herniation or compression, so I'm not sure how it all relates to the pain and possible nerve involvement. We did the initial eval and then heat and some stretches, but he wants to think more on possible ways to approach the therapy so as not to cause any further damage in the process. All in all, it'll take a lot of work but I think it'll get better. :) Now time for sleep as I work again tonight, but at least not till 11pm. :) Hugz, Carrie :) |
