Title: Might help some of you! Post by joepetersen on Jan 30th, 2006, 2:16am Thought I was crazy (as most of us do) when I first started having the monster visit me for about 4 years. But from the beginning I suspected that carrots had something to do my problem, well of course that must be crazy, carrots are good for your eyes. Finally I went to my allergist and talked to him about my "allergy" to carrots, he laughed at me and explained what I had were "cluster headaches". Well at least I'm not crazy or going blind. Having read about the cluster situation and realizing your just F***ed, I decided to test my theory about carrots. I stopped eating them entirely, my clusters stopped within a week or so. Then about a month later I decided to get a multivitamin to replace what I was nolonger getting from carrots (vitamin A and beta carotine) what a mistake!!! They started back within week. That was it, I stopped the multivitamins and anything with carrots or beta carotine (some low-fat margarines have it) and now well over a year later not 1 custer!! I know this might be just a solution for me, but if you've tried everything and nothing has worked try this it might work for you, I sure hope it does!! My thoughts prayers are with you... Joe |

Title: Re: Might help some of you! Post by BobG on Jan 30th, 2006, 2:28am Hey there Joe. This is the first time since this web site started 7 years ago that vitamin B or beta carotine has blamed for cluster headaches. Are you really sure that you do, indeed, suffer clusters? You say you were diagnosed by your allergist. Have you been to a cluster knowledgeable neurologist? Have you taken the 'cluster quiz' under the button on the left side of your screen? Try it and let us know the results. |

Title: Re: Might help some of you! Post by sandie99 on Jan 30th, 2006, 2:28am Joe, I hate to crush your theory about carrots but I have to. I LOVE carrots. I eat LOTS of them, few of them nearly every day. I have always 3kg sack of them in my fridge. I've eaten lots of carrots all my life, yet ch came into my life in fall 2001, first I was episodic, then chronic. I've been PF since April 2005. During my whole ch pain I've eaten carrots and I've eaten lots of them since. No difference whatsoever. I'm glad, though, that you've figured out what helped you to deal with ch and shared what you've found out. All of us are different. Personally, I avoid alcohol - that gives me shadows after one tiny sip. In my case ch hits became milder when I begun to eat even more fruits & vegetables than I had before and less prosessed foods, gave up sugar and salty snacks. I hope that you'll be PF in the future also. Best wishes, Sanna |

Title: Re: Might help some of you! Post by medic1852 on Jan 30th, 2006, 1:26pm No seriously! Carrots do work for the pain from clusters. But you must use them properly. You have to jab them in the eye that is hurting during an attack. That is how you use carrots for clusters. [smiley=pokeeye.gif] |

Title: Re: Might help some of you! Post by fubar on Jan 30th, 2006, 4:28pm I see no reason to jump on the guy... I'm sure there are many people out there claiming to have unbearable headaches and having been cured, think they have a solution. There is no harm in sharing their experiences. Take it easy. It might not be CH, but that's not my point. |

Title: Re: Might help some of you! Post by Charlie on Jan 30th, 2006, 5:46pm Glad that you feel that something works in any case Joe. The thing is that CH and eyes are connected? If so, it's not something I understand. I never stopped eating carrots. No real Ch symptoms for thirteen years; lots of carrots but that's just me. Charlie |
