Title: I'm totally freaking out here!
Post by Trapp on Jan 27th, 2006, 12:06am
Hey everyone, OK I can't believe I am writing this, but I am totally freaking out over here. I have an appt tomarrow with a neuro, which is good I know, however I am TERRIFIED of docs. I don't know exactly what kind of responses I'm looking for, I guess I'm just looking to talk to someone...ANYONE!!!

Never be afraid of things that can help you. Seeing a neuro was the best thing I ever did.......

OK, Trapp,
Take a deep breath. Please try to remember the Doctor has gone through an awful lot of education and training to be able to HELP people..that is their primary goal when they take the Hippocratic Oath. I realize there are some out there who are useless as..well, fill in the blanks....BUT.......be calm, be open to hear what he has to say, and be armed. Print the info to the left here and let the paperwork speak for you!
Something else that might help, Trapp. Remember all the "Whos in Whoville" are going to be there with you. That is to say, when you go see that Neuro tomorrow, we will all be here cheering you on. Begging you to get 02, encouraging you to enter into a partnership for your well-being.
Please print this stuff, Trapp, and make sure you show it to this Neuro.and, please, try not to be afraid! He/She pulls their pants on the same way you do.they are, in fact, mere mortals just like us.
Good luck tomorrow, and please let us know how it goes!!!!!!!!!!

Cathi

Go print this out. (http://mushys.com/utils/CH_therapies.pdf) There's a ton of other stuff to print as well. Too bad you gave such short notice.
Unless I go into the doc with a list of questions and printouts to back me up, I'm a blithering idiot. Mind goes blank, forget everything. Shit.
Make a list of questions and take `em along. Note any specific meds that caught your eye. Demand oxygen.

You'll be your own best advocate.

After suffering for 28 years worth of cycles---I finally went to a neurologist this year and it was the best thing I ever did. Tell your Neuro exactly when you are getting hit and the duration of most of the hits----You'll be soooooooo happy that you made this appointment. GOOD LUCK !!!

The neuro will only know what you tell him. So make sure you tell him or her and question if you dont understand something. Otherwise he/she will just give short takes about what he/she knows.

Most are nerdy guys so ask him if he wears boxers or briefs that'l put you on equal footing. If a she dont ask.

Gather all of the info you have that was probably provided her and as RJ mentioned you must be your best advocate.

Armed with knowledge you don't have to tak eany shut or sub standard care.

talk to the doctor but also know that he is your employee and be honest.

don't let a god complex get in the way.

God luck

Trapp, RELAX. I know that docs can be scary, but I bet that they are more terrified of your ch than you are them. Just learn lots about ch before you go so you can spot if your doc knows his/her stuff. Just breathe and take it easy. You'll be fine.

Best wishes,
Sanna

Sounds like you have a phobia.  Am I right?  I know people say to "relax" and "don't worry", but when you have a fear of something, words don't mean diddly.  Is there a "safe" person who you trust that could go with you to the docs?  Like a spouse or good friend?

And when you feel that panic start to rise, make sure you do some deep breathing exercises.  But remember, breath from the abdomen, not the chest!

Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

hugs,
mel

That was a COMPLETE waste of time! He told me I have migraines and Cluters and to go see someone else. I TOLD HIM THAT! I DON"T want to do this again. It 12 docs to fugure out how fix my jaw, I've already done this!
Yes I do have a phobia, I know that most are not mean, however I think 8 of those 12 told me I was making things up, one got so frustrated he grabbed my jaw and started trying to rip it out asking "does this hurt?"  All it took was someone looking closer at the X-rays!
Sorry, I know most of you have suffered from this ALOT longer than I have. I'm just frustrated and so is my family (I'm not really sure if they believe me or not).

Thanks for taking the time to help!

You can relax. There is nothing more boring than an examination by a neurologist. http://www.kolobok.wrg.ru/smiles/standart/boredom.gif?SSImageQuality=Full They like to know if you're left or right handed mostly. It's a specialty for egghead doctors not comfortable with bodily functions. (On that... why would anyone choose proctology as a specialty? I'll never get that) http://subscribe.smileygenerator.us/all/albums/aiwan1//stinker.gif?SSImageQuality=Full

Anyway, I've had at least seven of them, most of them decent and three of them very competent, especially the one that told me it was CH that I was dealing with during one of my regular seizure exams. He's the one with the technique.

You'll do just fine and he will let you know how what he needs.

Good luck,

Charlie

We found a local doctor that is an internalist (kind of a regular doctor type that is on his own and not part of a clinic) and he knows a bit about ch.......he's been WONDERFUL to both of us.....we can talk to him about anything and he listens. He's willin to let Brad try what he has read or heard that mite work or help too. Brad was goin to a neuro that was kinda far away and expected Brad to come in routinely even when out of cycle to stay "on his list" to get meds or in fast if a cycle starts back up. Last time I called him after a 3 or 4 year break the secretary said there was a 3 month wait cuz Brad did not come in at least twice a year even when NOT in cycle. Dam doc was not cheap either !!!!! He would NOT prescribe meds for Brad.....they told me to tell him to just go to the hospital ?? Huh........yeah 5 times a day ?? Careing bunch ech ? My last doc got a better offer and moved out of state........were HOPEING this one sticks around !!! Not a nice neuro dumper Pam

PS: I am so afraid of docs that I almost start bawling in the office cuz I blank out and feel like a fool......then I get all hyper scared tryin to explain stuff.

Oyi vay, sorry Sheena.
How was your night?  Many visits from the beast?

Hope you can find a doc soon that has a small bit of intelligence.  Lots of us here simply use a neuro or a doc to write scripts.  We research what we want to take, inform the doc and get their input on the safety of it, and just get the script.
Its sad, but you already know more about CH and treatment than probably 99% of any doc you have ever met.  I am somewhat cynical, but i think you gotta find a doc that will STFU and do what he/she is told.  I think you would have a much easier time finding a doc to do that.
PF wishes
BMonee
