Title: Skype computer help needed asap!!!!
Post by sandie99 on Jan 26th, 2006, 2:30pm
Here's a problem for all the computer wizards to solve:

My Skype isn't working anymore! My pal just tried to call me and I could hear her, but she couldn't hear me. And why is that? Because of my NORTON! >:(

That bloody virus protection program keeps on asking zillion times if I want to allow skype, which I replied always "yes". So, now I can't call anyone anymore... :'(

Any ideas what I could to this overactive Norton? I already tried all the advices at Skype's website, but I can't change anything at Norton, because it appears differently than that Norton at Skype's help website. :(

This has not happened to me before. I think it's all because I updated Norton last week... It's great that no virus will attack my computer, but I hate when I can't talk to anyone via Skype anymore... :'(

I'll appreciate all the help & suggestions you have a lot.

Sanna

Sanna,

I noticed no one was answering you about this and I am certainly not a wizard...far from it.   But I have Skype and during a meeting with my committe members I was told they could hear me but I could not hear them. (otherway around from what you described.)   I checked my ports and wires at the base of my hard-drive and one of them was not plugged in.  When I plugged it back in all the way....I had no other problems.

All of you computer-genius's may now feel free to jump on the bandwagon in dissing me.    ;;D

The thing is that I haven't had any problems with Skype once I got the right kind of headset. The headset is connected to my laptop just like always before. None of my computers other settings have been altered since my last Skype call - which was, I admit it, long time ago. The only thing which has changed is that Norton has been updated.

Linda, thanks for your post. :)

Disable (Not uninstall) Norton and try to make a call.

Im no wizard, but thats what I would try next.

Good luck, Sweetie  :-*

In my windows days, I had Norton firewall once, I believe part of this is running in NAV now. It kept locking up my networking becouse it thought the router renewing DHCP was a security threat. Try disabling the worm protection part. If you are using a USB head set, the driver could be messed. The same for your mic driver, Microsoft Windows likes to lose drivers from time to time, for some unknown reason.

Norton is a pain in the ass, Avast is a very good updated daily antivirus. I use it all any PC I use that has Windows. Zone alarm is about the best firewall there is out there, and its free too.

Have you tried updating Skype?  Disabling Norton?  Unpluging and repluging your Mic or Headset and making sure it's seated correctly?  Checked to make sure your volume settings don't have your Mic muted or set at too low of a volume?  Checked your volume settings to make sure your Mic is properly selected?  Checked to make sure your Mic works in other applications?  Checked to make sure that a setting hasn't been changed in Skype that would disable your Mic?  Just because you haven't changed anything in a while, doesn't mean that nothing has changed.

Got that right Matt. It took me a lot of time but I finally figured out that I had to dump the thing. The damned firewall got in the way of every other thing at ebay; it seemed. Idiots. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/writer.gif
