Title: I DID IT! Post by Carl_D on Jan 11th, 2006, 2:51pm You may remember awhile back I had run into a long lost friend who was in film school at the same time I decided to write a book. Well, she graduated and is doing films and screenplays now, and is still interested in turing "Beyond The Shadow" into a screenplay! She told me of a movie she is casting for right now and I jokingly told her if she ever needed a fat, bald, goatee'd guy as an extra to let me know. She asked how old I am now and I told her 35 and she said they needed someone my age to play the reverend in the movie. She looked at my pics on myspace (we are both a part of the myspace cult) and said I'd have a good shot at it. So, my buddy Todd and I went sunday to the auditions. I wasn't nervous. We had to do 4 improv drama scenes; one of which was a dinner scene where I had to drag it out of my wife that she was having an affair. Afterwards, I had felt like I kicked its ass, and Todd said during the 4th scene the directors looked at each other smiling and nodding. Todd also knows what I went through that weekend since he stayed with me since Friday and witnessed several CH attacks (something he had never seen before). It freaked him out, but he thinks I am a much stronger person to be able to deal with that, and try to get back to normal afterwards. Anyway, I got a note from Cindy yesterday telling me that this weekends auditions felt like the actors version of American Idol, as there were some pretty bad tryouts, but mine was not one of them. They did cast 3 people for "The Purple Room" from this round of auditions and instead of waiting two weeks for the call-back reading, she let me know that they knew they had their minister when they first saw me! I Got The Gig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now the bad news: I am free this weekend, but then the next two weekends after this we are meeting up at Webster U. for readings and rehearsal. That means I will not be able to make it to DavCon, since we are rehearsing that weekend. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( Though I will miss most of you and be very very sad, this is something of a dream come true and I cannot let this pass me by. We will be filming in mid February until late March when we commence. Not sure where this could lead to but definitely excited at the prospects. I will do my utmost to be at Convention this year though, as I hope to have the book edited and an independent first-run available to the public. Plus I do much better in the heat than I do in the cold, so will probably have more fun at convention and meet more peeps than at DavCon. I know that will bum some out and others will rejoice. Whatevah! I love you guys and greatly miss you. But remember.... I want PICS of the PRANKS!!!!!!!!!! Revolutionne, Carl |

Title: Re: I DID IT! Post by Carl_D on Jan 16th, 2006, 8:14pm Thanks for the well wishes y'all. Been passed cloud nine since last weekend and chillin' on 11. "The Purple Room" is an independent film, so unless it is picked up by a major distributor probably won't be in a theatre near you, but will be released on DVD & VHS. I'm just looking at this as a starting line. After my experience in "The Madding Crowd" comedy improv troupe years ago, and having landed this part, I feel like music may not be my biggest talent. Irony is, I have been playing music for 25+ years and only started this on a whim. I am just hoping it leads to more opportunities and ya never know... If I become famous for anything though, I want it to be this book. "Beyond the Shadow" is the first novel about a cluster sufferer to cover the specific topic in detail and, if the book becomes a success - everyone will know what cluster headaches are. I've made the plot twisted enough and there are many diverse characters in it. While it is in no way autobiographical, I have included a few situations with Wyatt derived from personal experiences (beside just having CH, but circumstances borne out of it). As far as becoming a 'big star' I don't see that happening but stranger things have happened. In any event - no, I would not forget you guys and where I come from we leave NO ONE behind!!! As far as being able to do the acting thing: alot of people get nervous in front of an audience. I get pumped. That was why I loved doing comedy improv (plus I am quick on my feet). One of the scenes we did at the audition I was a husband having dinner with his wife and her friend, and was trying to drag out of her that she was having an affair. It was awesome! Then, the casting director pulled the actress aside and whispered something to her, then pulled me aside and said "This time, destroy her!" I got to go off on somebody and it felt soooo good!!! Lots of pent up anger, so I was 'a natural.' LOL. Sorry. Rambling. Still pumped about this. First reading coming up soon!!! Peace, Carl |
